Chapter Text
Pearl makes a beeline to the bathroom and slams the door. Both Amethyst and Garnet stand besides each other, completely puzzled by her behavior. Amethyst sips her orange juice and glances to Garnet, confusion written across her face. "What's her problem?"
Garnet readjusts her glasses, a shine hitting the frame. "I don't know."
The smaller gem raises an eyebrow in doubt but simply continues to drink her juice. "Yeah, whatever."
Pearl's cheeks is tinted a bright blue color upon seeing her gem glow. She covers the light by her hands, although it did nothing to hide some seeping through the cracks. "Oh my stars, what's happening to me?" A groan comes out followed by a few mutters to herself. She bites the skin off her lip while evaluating the predicament she was in.
Then a thought comes to mind.
"Amethyst"
Her gem glows brighter as soon as she pictured Amethyst. Pearl sighs in defeat. She had already come to terms that there was feelings for the purple gem, however for her own gem to expose herself like that was crossing the line.
"Why are you glowing!" Pearl yells to herself, pulling her face in utter frustration.
Speaking of the devil, Amethyst knocks on the door. "Hey P!? What's the matter?"
The door nob twists open making Pearl stumble on her feet as she closes the door on Amethyst, "I'm- I'm alright! Just give me a moment!"
Luckily, Pearl was prepared for anything. She summons a wide brim hat and placed it where her gem was fully hidden. Taking a long inhale, Pearl opens the door, grinning like an idiot.
"Wow, nice hat." Garnet comments, leaning against the wall with her usual composed demeanor.
"I'm trying a new look!" Pearl winces at how ridiculous she sounded. She notices the two weren't buying it, "I like the hat... It's symmetrical..?" It was more of a question than a statement, but in her surprise, Garnet and Amethyst believe it.
"Righttt, well me and Garnet are heading down to the boardwalk to get pizza. You coming?" Amethyst asks.
Pearl shakes her head rather quickly. First, she needs to solve her problem and hanging out with the reason for her issue was the least Pearl wanted to do. "No thank you! You guys go ahead and have fun!" Pearl practically pushes them out the door. At this point, the two of them were used to Pearl kicking them out, usually when she had to clean the whole house from roof to floor. They walk down the stairs while Pearl gives them a wave of goodbye.
When they were out of sight, Pearl's face drops. She bends over on the kitchen counter and removes the hat from her head. It was still shimmering like the sun hitting the ocean waters, the light as reflective as ever. For a moment, she contemplated on just telling the gems her condition, well that was scratched almost immediately. A look of dread came over her. It wasn't like she was afraid of what Amethyst would say. In fact, there was a strong possibility she'd say yes.
However, Pearl wasn't ready. There's no plan and therefore, if there's no plan, then it'd end up in a disaster and it'd be like Rose Quartz all over again.
"Nobody can know about this," She finally concludes.
