Work Text:
Celestine went into the elevator, and into the ship. They logged everything from the last loop in the computer, and then put on their suit. They sat in the pilot’s seat, tapping the controls as they pondered where to go next.
After a precious few minutes of thinking, they stood up, and left their ship. Gabbro once said something along the lines of "Not every loop had to be work, it was important to have some fun from time to time" once. Might as well listen. They have all the 22 minutes in the world, and all the technical immortality you need to have a little fun.
They gripped the controls for the jetpack and grinned as they started a run, jumping to land on the ground outside the crater, holding forward on the jetpack’s controls.
When their legs couldn’t keep up with their speed, they jumped and accelerated up as well, keeping a very low orbit until they saw Brittle Hollow on the horizon, and landed briefly to jump once more, hitting the boost. As they left the atmosphere, they locked onto Brittle Hollow, and aligned themself to land just above the surface.
50% FUEL REMAINING
They ignored the warning, and aligned themself for the north pole. They grabbed their signalscope peered through it, adjusting their velocity, quickly calculating when they would land relative to the rotation, and made sure it lined up well enough.
FUEL LEVEL CRITICAL
They entered the atmosphere, feeling the air slow them down. They made a few careful adjustments, looking at the spare fuel Feldspar had graciously left for any explorers. When they were close enough, they grabbed it with one arm and jumped past the staircase and through the crack in the wall.
WARNING: FUEL DEPLETED
USING OXYGEN AS PROPELLANT
Celestine let go of the controls and twisted off their own fuel tank, cautious of the fragile orbit they had. They put Feldspar’s spare one in its place, as they heard their own clatter against the ground.
REFUELING
They laughed in triumph at their beautiful jetpacking skills. Take that, Gossan! They were probably the best hearthain at using this thing by now, with their incredible amount of practice from the 43 fear free loops that they-
VITALS LOW
Celestine’s thoughts were cut off by the wind being knocked out of them as they crashed into a stone pillar with the all too familiar sensation of broken ribs. They were still smiling from managing to have pulled all that off, noting the irony of getting in such a simple crash after piloting to another planet without a ship.
They sat up and walked the rest of the way to Riebeck’s camp, ignoring the pains in their chest.
