“Woo! Party!” Bolin cheered as he walked through the doors and onto the street, raising his arms up in playful jest.
“Hell yeah!” Korra agreed, sidling up to Bolin and throwing an arm around his neck, pulling him closer to him. “I know we just left the club, but who says we can’t keep this party going, right?!”
“I’m with you!” Bolin stated, wrapping an arm around Korra’s waist and giving her a hip check. “All we need to do is figure out where to lead the party on.”
“My place?” Korra suggested, already leading Bolin down the street in the direction of her cramped apartment.
While all this was happening, Asami and Mako followed behind, both of them shaking their heads at the shenanigans unraveling before them.
“How much do you want to bet Korra gets us lost on the way to her place?” Mako stated, elbowing Asami’s side with a light chuckle.
“No chance,” Asami replied, grinning over at Mako. “She may be hammered, but that girl’s got a great sense of direction.”
“Good point,” Mako stated, looking over at Korra and Bolin now practically skipping down the street, their arms still clutched around each other’s bodies so that they stagger side to side. “Bo and I have an early morning tomorrow, though. Might just try and drag him away from the fun.”
“I wish you luck,” Asami told him, giving him a small salute as Mako sighed and picked up his pace so he could catch up with his brother and Korra. Laughing, Asmai followed behind, catching up to the three quickly.
“Nooo, I don’t wanna leave,” Bolin whined, releasing Korra so that he could fall on his knees and beg Mako. “Pleeeeease, Mako, can we please keep partying.”
“Bolin, you’re drunk,” Mako chastised, grabbing Bolin’s upper arm and yanking him to his feet. “We need to go home and get you into bed so that you’re not completely hungover tomorrow morning when we meet with Gran.”
“Ugh,” Bolin complained, turning towards Korra and pouting. “I’m sorry, Korra, Mako is a party pooper.”
“Boooo!” Korra stated, giving Mako a thumbs down.
Asami laughed, wrapping an arm around Korra’s waist and pulling her close so that they’re pressed together. “Korra,” Asami said, giving Korra a kiss on the cheek. “Mako and Bolin need to leave, why don’t you show me back to your place.”
Korra looked over at Asami with wide eyes, her cheeks flushed, a lopsided grin plastered on her face. “Oh? My place?” she all but purred, now turning her body and snaking her arms around Asami’s neck so that they’re face to face. “You’re being pretty straight forward aren’t you, sweetheart?”
“Gross,” Bolin and Mako said in unison, pretending to gag so that Korra flipped them off and stuck her tongue out at them.
Asami laughed, throwing her head back in glee as Korra released her to put Bolin in a headlock. Bolin fought against her playfully, wriggling his body so that he could escape her strong arms.
“Stop acting like children, you two,” Mako teased, grabbing Bolin’s waist and pulling him away from Korra. “Asami, help me out here?”
With another laugh, Asami placed her hands on Korra’s hips, rubbing her hip bones with her thumbs so that Korra relaxed at her touch. With one last squeeze around Bolin’s head, Korra released him and stepped into Asami’s touch.
“You’re lucky my girlfriend was here to save you,” Korra told him, poking Bolin’s side so that he squirmed.
“Okay, okay,” Mako cut in before Bolin could reply. “Come on, Bo, time to go.” He wrapped a hand around Bolin’s upper arm and tugged, leading him away from Asami and Korra. Bolin sulked while raising his hand in the air in a small wave.
Korra and Asami waved back, Korra’s left arm now wrapped possessively around Asami’s hips.
“Okay, you,” Asami said, pulling away from Korra so she could look at her more fully. “Time to go home and get you to bed.”
“Ugh, fine,” Korra groaned, giving Asami her best puppy-dog eyes while pushing out her bottom lip in an over-dramatic pout.
With another laugh, Asami gave Korra a peck on the nose and took her hand to tug her along the sidewalk back towards Korra’s place. Korra just followed, whining under breath, but still eagerly falling into step beside Asami, fingers now lacing through Asami’s thin ones.
As they walked, Asami glanced sideways at Korra, admiring her girlfriend in the moonlight. Korra was quiet for the first time all night, her lips pursed in a small frown of concentration, her short hair slightly blowing in the summer breeze. Asami couldn’t help but wonder what Korra was thinking about, though she knew not to pry when Korra became all introspective.
So, instead of talking, Asami squeezed Korra’s hand with hers, giving Korra a reassuring smile when Korra turned her head to look at her. Korra grinned in response, her goofy lopsided grin that Asami had so come to adore in more recent months. Not that she never liked Korra’s smile, she always had, it’s just that since they started dating…
“Want to race?” Korra asked suddenly, her eyes twinkling with mirth as she motioned towards her apartment building now only a few blocks away.
“Korra,” Asami chided, though she couldn’t keep the amusement out of her voice. “You’re drunk and not walking all that straight, you’re going to get yourself lost.”
Korra released Asami’s hand and crossed her arms over her chest, sticking her chin in the air in mock petulance. “You’re just scared you’re going to lose,” Korra argued, closing her eyes so that she couldn’t see Asami’s bemused chuckle. “You’re just worried that you’re going to be a sore loser.”
“Babe, I’m dating the Avatar,” Asami reminded her gently, prying Korra’s arms away from her body so that she could run soothing hands along her sides. “I know I’m going to lose, I just don’t know how you’re going to make it home without me keeping you upright.”
“Don’t believe you. You’re scared I’ll get lost.”
“I was literally just telling Mako how you have a great sense of direction,” Asami stated, shaking her head.
“You just don’t want to lose.”
“Once again, I know I will, I just don’t want you getting hurt.”
Korra cracked an eye open. “Stop doing that.”
“Doing what?” Asami asked, blinking in confusion.
“Being all cute and considerate,” Korra answered, waving her hand in a vague motion towards Asami. Though confused by this statement, Asami could see the admiration blooming in Korra’s eyes. “You care so much, and it’s… ugh, you’re just so cute!”
“And you’re drunk,” Asami couldn’t help but reply, wrapping her arms around Korra’s waist and pulling her in for a kiss.
Korra hummed happily against Asami’s lips, tilting her head to the side so that Asami’s tongue could sweep along her bottom lip.
Kissing Korra always felt like the first time. Her chapped - yet somehow soft - lips, the sweet taste of liquor on her tongue. Korra’s hands ran up and down Asami’s back in appreciation as Asami trailed her kisses down her along her jaw towards her neck.
“Loser makes breakfast,” Asami whispered against Korra’s skin, smirking when Korra shivered in her arms.
“Okay,” Korra sighed contentedly, though Asami could tell that she had no idea what she was agreeing to.
When Asami pulled away, Korra gave her another lopsided grin that drove Asami absolutely crazy. With a wink, Asami slowly continued to pull away from Korra, her fingers lingering just along Korra’s hips before her words could catch up to her.
“Wait…” Korra blinked as Asami took a step back. Then another. Then another. “Wait, what?”
“See ya!” Asami exclaimed, finally turning around and taking off in a sprint towards Korra’s apartment building.
“Hey! Wait a minute!” Korra called from behind, her voice laced with laughter as her footsteps echoed through the night behind Asami.
Of course, as Asami predicted, it didn’t take Korra long to catch up to her. And while Asami just assumed that Korra would race ahead, instead Korra kept Asami’s pace, running beside her so that they were of equal distance.
Korra was still laughing as she ran, her cheeks now flushed red, her eyes crinkled in glee. Asami laughed too, reaching out and grabbing Korra’s hand so that they ran down the sidewalk together, their laughter drowning out the roar of engines, music blasting through windows, others yelling back and forth at each other.
Nothing else really mattered as Asami caught another glimpse of Korra, her hair now a mess from the wind blowing through her hair and a bead of sweat forming at her temple.
Oh, Asami thought to herself with a sigh as Korra tugged her along, the apartment now blooming before them in the night. Oh, I see.
Emotions had been bubbling up to the surface for a while now, a whirlwind that almost caught Asami by surprise. Still, even if Asami had not been ready, she would have run headlong into these feelings with pleasure.
Finally, they reached the apartment building, Korra still laughing, though she had to stop and drop Asami’s hand as she curled up into herself, her joy music to Asami’s ears.
“That was fun!” Korra stated once she finally calmed down enough to look Asami in the eye. “Man, I wish Bolin and Mako had been able to join us.”
“Yeah,” was all Asami could find herself saying, her mouth suddenly dry, a lump forming in her throat that made it hard to talk.
Korra frowned. “You okay, babe? Something wrong?”
“No, no!” Asami assured her, shaking her head. “Nothing is wrong, I promise.”
“You have this weird look on your face.” Korra reached up and placed a hand on Asami’s face, fingers stroking along her cheek softly. “Are you sure?”
“I’m sure,” Asami confirmed with a tender smile. She placed her hand over Korra’s so she could drag it to her mouth and kiss the other girl’s palm.
Korra furrowed her brows in reply, but didn’t say anything. She just kept her eyes trained on Asami’s face as Asami kissed Korra’s palm again, then each individual finger, then the inside of her wrist. When Asami dropped her hand, Korra allowed the older girl to stroke a damp piece of hair away from her face, closing her eyes at the sensation.
“Korra?” Asami whispered, stepping closer to Korra and wrapping her arms around her body.
“Yeah?” Korra asked, opening her eyes so that she could look up at her.
“I - I love you.”
Korra released a soft breath, eyes widening at the weight of Asami’s words.
“I think I have for a while now,” Asami continued gently, trying not to get lost in the blue of Korra’s eyes. “Is that… okay?”
She’s taken by surprise when Korra’s mouth is suddenly on hers in a kiss. With a small moan, Asami closed her eyes, hands situated on Korra’s hips as Korra’s hands buried themselves in Asami’s hair. Korra’s kiss was hungry, desperate, a mess of teeth and tongue, though Asami didn’t really care. Asami responded with the same passion, the same need, uncaring that they were still outside where people walking by could see them.
When she finally pulled away for air, Korra whispered, “I love you too,” before diving back in and capturing Asami’s lips with her own. Asami couldn’t help but to grin, her face warm.
“Hey,” Asami said, pulling away from Korra so that the other girl moaned. “Maybe we should go upstairs, huh?”
“Oh, oh definitely,” Korra agreed, prying herself out of Asami’s arms so that she could march towards the lobby door, her chin up and back straight.
Asami giggled as she followed her, reaching out and wrapping an arm around Korra’s neck so that she could pull her close enough to plant a wet kiss on her cheek. Korra just laughed, bumping Asami with her hip as they made their way inside.
