Work Text:
Whenever the lunch bell rang on a typical day at Miyamasuzaka Girls’ Academy, Honami would eat lunch with her bandmates, while Emu would begin her sneaky conquest to Kamiyama High School to eat lunch with her girlfriend Nene. However, today was different. Shiho had warned his bandmates in advance that he would be eating lunch with his sister today. Shiho and Shizuku had promised to eat lunch together once a month, and today happened to be their monthly agreed-upon lunch day. Due to this, Ichika and Saki had planned to eat with Minori and Haruka. This left Honami alone. She knew that Emu often left the school during their lunch break, but maybe Emu wouldn't mind staying with her for lunch today if she asked.
Once the bell rang, Honami approached Emu, who seemed to be in a hurry to leave as usual.
“Emu-chan! I'm sorry if this is a bother, but can we eat together today? I know you usually leave during lunch, so you don’t have to! But I think it would be nice to catch up.”
When Emu heard Honami talking to her, she quickly looked up at her. She eats with Nene almost everyday, so really, it shouldn't hurt for Emu to spend today’s lunch hour with Honami.
“Really?! I’d love to eat with you, Honami-chan! Where do you wanna go? What do you wanna talk about?”
“You do? That’s great! Um… are you fine with staying in the classroom?”
“Yeah! That’s fine by me!”
Emu smiled as she sat back down at her desk. Honami sat down at the desk next to hers, then the two began to unpack their lunches. The two enjoyed each other's company as they ate their lunches through on and off conversations, mostly consisting of some friendly small talk.
Once the two were finished eating their lunches, the topic of their girlfriends, Nene and Saki, came up.
Honami had a lot to say about Saki’s cheerfulness, hard work, ability to balance out all her priorities, piano and keyboard skills, sense of style, ability to style hair and do makeup, and just about everything else about her.
Meanwhile, Emu gushed a lot about Nene’s soft and beautiful voice (both when talking and singing), her passion towards theater, her skills at gaming (especially fighting games), the sparkle that appears in her gentle lilac eyes when she’s happy or excited, her beautiful long and greenish-gray hair, her smile and laugh, and just about everything else that made Nene special.
After spending what felt like all of their lunch break (when in reality, it was ten minutes at most) rambling about their girlfriends, the conversation shifted.
“Hey, Emu? Speaking of you and Kusanagi-san… Do you two go on dates often? Where do you like going the most?” Honami asked curiously. She had hoped to take Saki on a date somewhere new on the band’s next off day. Saki really loved going to new places, so Honami hoped Emu had some suggestions.
“Hmmmm… Places that my dear Nene-chan and I like to go together…” Emu thought, though it didn’t take very long for a handful of ideas to come to her. “Oh! Nene-chan loves it when we go to the arcade! It gives her a chance to show off just how well she can go BWOOOM! POW! POW! POW! WABOOMBOOMBOOMBOOMBOOM! on every fighting game she stumbles across! She’s so talented! Me? I really love going shopping with Nene-chan! Sometimes, we pick things out for each other and surprise each other with them at the end! Nene-chan has such good taste! She knows me so well…”
“Ah… Saki-chan and I aren’t the best at video games, so I don’t think the arcade would be a very good place for us to go.” Honami replied with an apologetic smile. “Saki-chan loves fashion and shopping, but she goes to the mall a lot already!” She frowned slightly. “Sorry, Emu-chan. I'm just being picky. Both of your suggestions were nice!”
“It’s okay, Honami-chan! ‘Cause I have a super awesome idea for us! Are you and Saki-chan free…” Emu quickly got her phone out and checked her calendar for her next day off from rehearsals or shows with her troupe mates. Wonderlands x Showtime’s next day off was scheduled for the upcoming weekend “...this Saturday?”
“This Saturday?” Honami repeated, not for any reason necessarily, since she heard Emu just fine. She quickly checked Leo/Need’s playing schedule. Much to her joy, that Saturday was a day off for the band!
“Perfect! We don’t have anything going on that day with the band! Why? What’s your idea?” She brought her hand to her chin as she curiously tilted her head.
“Well, since all four could use something new and exciting to do, I thought, let’s go on a double date this weekend! Doesn’t that sound super duper fun, Honami-chan?” Emu’s eyes were already beaming with excitement. “Well, as long as Saki-chan and Nene-chan are free that day too!”
A smile quickly appeared on Honami’s face as well.
“A double date sounds really fun with you two! And Kusanagi-san is very nice! I can give Saki-chan a quick text to see if she's free that day.”
“Yay~! I'll text Nene-chan too!”
Honami and Emu both got their phones out and texted Saki and Nene asking if they were free this Saturday and wanted to go out on a double date.

“Honami-chan! Honami-chan! Nene-chan said yes!” Emu beamed a bright smile at Honami.
“Really? Saki-chan said yes too!” Honami smiled back at Emu, though her smile was soft, which contrasted Emu’s bright smile.
“Yayyyy~! That means our double date is on, right?!”
“Right!”
Perfect timing! Just after the two came to that agreement, the school bell rang, signaling for classes to resume once again.
-
Saturday arrived soon before the four knew it. They agreed to make a group chat so communicating their plans would be easier. Their agreed meeting time was 6pm, and they decided on meeting up on the main street to get dinner together, and then stargaze at the park at night.
Emu and Nene arrived at the agreed spot very early together, mainly because Emu just couldn't contain her excitement. Because of how early the two were, Emu insisted that they get a piece of taiyaki to share. Nene obliged and the two found a place near the taiyaki stand to sit at. Nene smiled fondly at the shorter girl as she excitedly chomped away at a piece of the taiyaki. Suddenly, Nene spotted Honami and Saki approaching the two in her peripheral vision.
“Emu-chan! Kusanagi-san! You two are here early!” Honami called out to the two with a smile of surprise on her face.
Saki, who was holding onto Honami’s hand, excitedly called out to the two. “Nene-chan! Emu-chan! Good Wonderhoy!” She was beaming with excitement.
“Good Wonderhoy, Saki-chan, Honami-chan!” Emu matched Saki’s energy through her response. Meanwhile, Nene waved at Honami and Saki, staying quiet, but smiling at the two. That is until she spoke up.
“What are you two doing here so early, anyway?” Nene asked, tilting her head with curiosity.
“Saki-chan was so excited for today that she came to my house extra early! You should've seen how giddy she was! It was adorable!” Honami replied, playing with one of Saki’s ponytails as she spoke.
In response, Saki blushed and crossed her arms, though this was just a playful gesture of hers.
“Hmph! Did they really need to know that, Hona-chan?” She said teasingly. Despite wanting to stay in character, she ended up giggling not long after.
“I couldn't help it! I’m so excited to stargaze! Hona-chan knows everything about the stars! She gets this adorable sparkle in her eyes when she talks about them!” Saki rambled, beaming with admiration.
“Do I really?” Honami asked sheepishly as blush appeared on her face.
“Don’t worry, Honami-chan! The same thing happens to Nene-chan when she talks about this game she really likes! It’s called Splatoon! It’s a nice and silly game that we like to play together sometimes, even though I’m not very good.” Emu rambled, much to Nene’s dismay, because she’s a blushing mess now.
“Emu…” She grumbled as she hid her rose-tinted cheeks with the front two strands of her hair. Emu replied by giggling and leaving a light kiss on Nene’s forehead, which only made the blushing worse.
Honami and Saki both laughed softly at the two’s interaction, until they both noticed an unusual amount of people and vendors in the area.
“Hm? What’s all this?” Honami pondered out loud. She noticed Saki curiously skimming the area as well.
“Hona-chan! Hona-chan! Look at all these different little shops! Can we all go?” Saki jumped in place excitedly. To that, Honami smiled fondly at Saki before turning to Emu and Nene to ask them.
“Is there an event going on here or something? I see a lot of vendors that aren’t usually here. Should we check it out to kill some time?” Honami asked the two.
“An event?” Nene curiously looked around. There were many small vendors laid out in the street. She was stunned as to how her and Emu missed them all when going to the taiyaki booth.
“Hm… It looks like a farmer’s market…”
She thought out loud, still skimming the area with her eyes.
“Ooooh! I’ve never been to a farmer’s market before! That sounds so fun!” Emu’s eyes sparkled with excitement as she spoke. Then, she turned to Nene for approval.
“What do you think, Nene-chan?!”
Nene appeared to be in thought as Emu got her attention. Although the market looked interesting to check out, it also looked rather crowded. Nene has never done well in crowds, mainly because of her social anxiety. However, she’s noticed that when she’s with Emu, she can usually manage crowds a little better.
“Sure. I think it’ll be fun to check out.” She smiled softly as she approved the idea.
“YAY~!” Emu quickly hugged Nene in excitement. She has a tendency of practically jumping onto Nene when she’s really happy, and this time was no different. It was a quirk of Emu’s that made Nene learn how to maintain her balance. At first, she would fall to the ground nearly every time Emu did this. Nowadays, though, she was usually able to stay balanced, though she was usually embarrassed if other people witnessed this. Her cheeks became a hue of pink as she held onto Emu, making sure neither of the two toppled over, softly giggling as she did so.
“Let’s go! Let’s go!” Saki declared excitedly, holding onto Honami’s hand with a bright smile. Emu let go of Nene after a moment and the two followed the couple that was accompanying them to the farmer’s market.
The four got closer to the market, which meant they also got closer to the crowd of people. Of course, Nene didn’t enjoy the crowd. She always felt like she was being suffocated by just how close everyone felt. It was a type of suffocation that would make her heart race, and she hated every moment of it. Additionally, she also had the fear that someone would approach her for something, and that was a scenario she was almost never prepared for. She usually did everything she could to avoid being in a crowd, whether that means she takes a longer walking route or stays home all together, but when she inevitably has to be in a crowd, she usually fidgets with her hands or clothing and hopes she can escape the crowd soon. However, because she isn’t alone in the crowd, she feels a little better. She looked at the shorter pink-haired girl next to her, who was smiling brightly and humming about her excitement for the farmer’s market, and held onto her hand with a timid smile.
“Farmer’s market! Farmer’s market! We're going to the farmer’s market! …Hm?” Emu was excitedly singing about the farmer’s market when she felt Nene hold her hand. When she looked over at her and saw her smiling, she smiled along, then continued her little song about the farmer’s market.
The four soon arrived at the farmer’s market, where Saki immediately skimmed the area. She let out an exasperated gasp when she saw a particular vendor that sold many stylish accessories, mainly hair accessories.
“Guys! Oh my gosh! Look! That booth has so many cute accessories! We have to check it out!” Still holding onto Honami’s hand, she barely gave anyone time to respond before practically dragging Honami to the vendor.
“Ah! Saki-chan! Be careful! I almost fell!” She yelped as she nearly ran to stay caught up with Saki.
“Really?! Let’s go right now!” Emu replied before speeding up to catch up to Saki and Honami, dragging Nene along, who nearly stumbled in the process.
Soon enough, Saki was struggling to decide between four hair accessories. The first one was a white hair claw with peaches on the design. Then, she found a pack of four star barrettes that she just “had to have.” The first barrette was a bright blue, the next one was a bright pink, the third one was red, and the last one was a bright green. Then, she picked up an off-white hair ribbon, which was tied in a bow. Finally, her last choice was a pastel yellow lacy bow. Saki was about to look around for even more accessories in the booth before Nene spoke up.
“Um… Tenma-san? Do you really need all those accessories?” She asked with an awkward smile.
“No… but they’re all so adorable! I can’t decide which one to get!” Saki whined. She held up the hair claw.
“This one would look so cute with this skirt I bought the other day!” Then, she held up the star barrettes.
“But these remind me of the band! This one reminds me of Icchan, this one’s me, this one’s Hona-chan, and this one’s Shiho! We could all have a matching barrette!” Her eyes seemed to brighten as she rambled about the star barrettes. It was at that moment that she was able to decide on buying the star barrettes.
“Hona-chan! Hona-chan! Do you think Icchan and Shiho would match with us?” Saki asked excitedly as she made her way to purchase the pack of barrettes.
“I could see Ichika-chan agreeing easily! Shiho? Maybe! He might need some convincing, but I'm sure he'll agree soon enough!” Honami replied. She was fairly confident in her assumptions, and to her credit, she would most likely be correct.
“Yayyy~! We're gonna be matching!”
Saki practically jumped in place from excitement.
Meanwhile, just close by, Emu seemed to be bombarding Nene with all sorts of hair accessories that she felt suited her.
“Nene-chan! What about this hair clip? It’s a little seashell! Doesn’t it make you feel like a mermaid just looking at it?”
“Eh? A mermaid? Not really…”
“But Nene-chan, It looks so cute on you! I can just hear it calling your name! “Nene-chan! Nene-chan! Please take me home with you! I love your beautiful hair!”” Emu giggled as she held the seashell hair clip up to Nene’s hair. Nene giggled along as she saw how the hair clip would look on her in a small handheld mirror that was present in the booth.
“I kinda like it, actually. Should I buy it?”
“YESSSS~! It’s begging you to buy it! Can’t you hear it?”
“Alright, alright. I'll buy it.”
With that, Nene decided to buy the seashell hair clip.
After Saki acquired her “Leo/Need certified” star barrettes and Nene bought her seashell hair clip, the group continued to browse through the farmer’s market for a little while longer. A few hours passed before the group knew it, which they only seemed to notice once they started to feel hungry.
“What time is it? I'm getting hungry…” Nene asked the three. In response, Saki checked the time on her phone.
“Oh! It’s 5:57! That’s almost the time we agreed to meet up in the first place.”
“It’s already almost time for dinner? Time went by so fast…” Honami replied.
“Let’s go get dinner! I'm so hungry I could eat a horse!” Emu exclaimed, taking Nene by the hand and starting to head in the direction of their agreed restaurant. Honami and Saki quickly followed the two.
By the time the four were finished eating dinner, the sun was nearly done setting. That was their sign to start making their way to the nearby park so they could stargaze. Honami especially looked forward to this. She’s always had a huge interest in astrology, so she cherished any chance she had to share her knowledge on the stars.
Once they arrived at the park, Honami found the perfect spot for the four to lay on the ground. The spot in particular had a perfect view of the sky, which was especially clear tonight, much to the group’s pleasure. She led the other three to her designated stargazing spot, where they all laid down. As soon as everyone was situated, Honami started searching for recognizable constellations immediately. However, in the midst of her constellation hunt, she spotted something so much more incredible.
“Was that a shooting star?” Nene asked.
“HUH?! Where at? Is it gone already? I don’t see it!” Emu frowned, but her smile came back immediately when she saw a shooting star, then another, then several others.
“A meteor shower?!” Emu and Saki exclaimed in unison with much excitement in their voices.
“I didn’t know there was gonna be a meteor shower…” Nene said in awe as she stared up at the sky.
“Oh! This must be the Lyrid Meteor Shower! It peaks at around this time of year annually!” Honami explained, not taking her eyes off the night sky.
“Is this the same one we saw as kids with Icchan and Shiho?” Saki asked.
“No, Saki-chan. That was the Leonids, but I guess I can see how the names sound similar.” Honami smiled fondly. It made her happy that Saki put in the effort to learn more about the stars, even if she isn’t quite as knowledgeable as Honami is.
After a few moments of the four girls staring up at the sky in awe, there was an audible yawn among the group. Saki was beginning to get tired, but she didn’t want the day to end. She had so much fun today that she just wanted it to last forever. Times like this made her understand Emu’s distaste towards dusk. Despite how heavy her eyes felt, she tried her hardest to keep them open. She didn’t want to miss the meteor shower, after all. However, she couldn’t help resting her eyes for a moment. A moment soon turned into many more moments. Saki had fallen asleep. Honami could tell when she felt Saki cuddle up to her a little more than she was before.
“Oh… Saki-chan’s asleep.”
Honami whispered through a soft smile at the sight of the sleeping Saki. She gently moved Saki’s hair out of her face and lightly kissed her forehead.
“Really?! Awwww! She feels safe around you, Honami-chan! How cute is that?” Emu smiled.
Nene was also really tired. She didn’t want to fall asleep as well, though. How would she get home if she fell asleep? How was Saki going to get home? She couldn’t help but wonder about those two things. She ended up yawning as well, though it was silent. Even though it was inaudible, Emu still managed to notice that Nene was tired as well.
“Hm? Are you getting sleepy too, Nene-chan?”
“N—... a little bit…” She looked at Emu with a tired expression, which Emu knew very well. Nene gets tired easily, so this expression was no stranger to Emu.
“That’s okay, Nene-chan! If you get too sleepy to walk home, I can carry you! I'm super duper strong just for times like this!” She laid to face Nene and gently began playing with her hair.
Nene closed her eyes at the gesture. She always loved having her hair played with. It was a good way to relax her.
“Are you sure…? I don’t wanna make this whole thing end too early, but I'm so sleepy…”
“Don't even worry about it, hon! Honami-chan’s probably carrying Saki-chan home after this anyway! It won’t hurt for me to carry you home too!”
“Yeah, Kusanagi-san. Don’t worry about it! If you’re tired, you should sleep. Emu-chan and I will take you two home when we're both ready to go!” Honami chimed in as she played with Saki’s hair.
Nene briefly opened her eyes to look at Honami, then the sleeping Saki, and then back at Emu.
“Um… if you’re both sure… I had a lot of fun today. Goodnight…” She said very tiredly before closing her eyes. Soon after, she was faintly snoring, which was how Emu and Honami both knew that she had fallen asleep for good.
Emu continued to play with Nene’s hair before Honami spoke up in a whisper.
“Saki-chan looks so adorable when she cuddles up to me like this.”
“So does Nene-chan! She looks so soft and cuddly! I just wanna squeeze her tight! But then I’d probably fall asleep too…” Emu giggled at the image that played in her mind.
“Right? Saki-chan looks so at peace. She makes me wanna stay here overnight with her and get comfortable with her! But it’s getting late, isn’t it? We should probably take them home… I'm starting to get a little tired, myself!”
“Yeah… Maybe we should…” Emu smiled sadly as she carefully stood up so she wouldn’t wake Nene. Honami noticed Emu’s sad expression as she also stood up carefully. She had a feeling that she knew what was bothering Emu.
“Emu-chan, we can always do this again, alright? I had so much fun today, and I know Saki-chan and Kusanagi-san did too! Why not plan a time for us to do this again someday?”
“You’re right, Honami-chan! As soon as I get home, I'm gonna find free days in my schedule and see what I can do right away!” Emu said excitedly, her brief sadness seemingly fading as she gently hoisted her girlfriend up into her arms.
Honami followed what Emu did and picked up Saki, being sure to not wake her as she did so. Neither Nene nor Saki woke up after being picked up somehow, so Emu and Honami began the quick journey to their respective girlfriends’ houses. They continued quiet conversations admiring their girlfriends until they eventually went their separate ways. Tonight, Emu found another reason to enjoy nighttime.
