Chapter 1: Toss a Coin

Summary:

Frederick insists that he and Chrom toss a coin into the town fountain together to ensure an everlasting bond. Their wives look on in amusement.

Chapter Text

Robin and Sumia stood together, chomping down sweet treats as their husbands fretted about. Frederick was attempting to strengthen his bond with Chrom by tossing a coin in the fountain, a time-honored harvest festival tradition usually reserved for young couples. Chrom wanted nothing to do with it, but Frederick followed him around like a lost, whining puppy, practically begging him to take part.

The ladies couldn’t help but laugh at how ridiculous it all was.

“Gods, Sumia, looks like our husbands will be bound forever, their bond the strongest of any lord and knight around. I’m a little jealous,” Robin grinned, biting into a chocolate dragon egg.

Sumia covered her giggle politely with her candied apple. “You know, when he proposed, I had to double check that he had no eyes for Chrom. If it were anyone else, I might be jealous too.” She grinned, blush kissing her cheeks. “I really do admire his dedication to his servitude. It’s what inspired me to spend more time with him during the war with Plegia!”

“I do appreciate having him around, even if the doting can be a bit much at times. Remember when I was pregnant with little Lucina? Gods… He rivaled Chrom for proudest parent.” Robin pinched the bridge of her nose. “I can’t imagine how much more ridiculous he’ll be like when you’re with child.”

“Oh believe me, Cynthia’s already got a sweater embroidered with ‘Daddy’s Pegapony Princess’ on it, and he delivers fresh flowers to her room each morning,” Sumia explained. “He’s even come around to helping with her flower flourishes, only outside of battle.”

“Awww! That’s… a lot, but it’s sweet,” Robin chuckled. “Chrom appreciates him too, in his own way. Look, he’s giving in already.” She pointed to the men overlooking the fountain, Frederick with his coin purse unzipped and a ridiculous grin on his face.

“Well, I’m glad my husband’s husband-to-be’s wife is such a wonderful and understanding friend, too,” she admitted, placing a hand on her hip and flashing a brilliant smile at Robin.
