Work Text:
Ed was walking back to his apartment in the dark, when he decided to take a detour through a dark alley. He was halfway through the alley when he heard a cry for help. Ed turned and saw Oswald, injured on the ground. Ed ran to him, concerned.
“Are you ok? What happened?” Ed asked. Oswald was unable to answer. Panicking, Ed decided to take Oswald to his apartment.
A few hours later, Oswald woke up. He looked around, confused, as he didn’t recognise his surroundings.
“You’re awake!” Ed exclaimed.
“Where am I? Oswald asked, confused.
“You’re in my apartment”
“Why?”
“You were hurt. I found you and brought you here so I could treat your injuries”
“Why do you care?”
“I couldn’t just leave you to die”
“Why not?”
“Because I like you. I think you’re interesting”
“You’re serious about that? Is that why you wouldn’t leave me alone before?”
“I didn’t mean to annoy you. Sometimes I don’t really understand social cues”
“That explains a lot.” Oswald laughed quietly to himself.
The next morning, Ed was getting ready for his shift at the GCPD.
“Where are you going?” Oswald asked.
“I have to go to work.” Ed answered.
“Why?”
“So that I can afford to live here”
“You don’t have much money?”
“Working in forensics doesn’t pay as well as you’d think. So I really can’t afford to miss work”
“I suppose that makes sense”
“Indeed. Anyway, I have to go now. Call me if you need anything.” Ed then left the apartment and drove to the precinct.
He arrived at the precinct fifteen minutes later. He went to his office and started analysing blood samples. He got the results and took them to Jim and Harvey.
“Thanks, Ed.” Jim said.
“You’re welcome, detective.” Ed replied, stimming happily.
“Why are you always so weird?” Harvey commented, after noticing Ed’s stimming. Ed’s smile faded and he slowly walked back to his office, clearly hurt by the comment.
Ten minutes later, Kristen entered Ed’s office to give him the files he had requested earlier. She noticed that he was upset.
“What happened?” She asked, concerned.
“Harvey made a mean comment about my stimming again.” Ed replied.
“He really needs to stop doing that. I’ll talk to him”
Kristen walked into the precinct to confront Harvey.
“What do you want?” He asked.
“Why are you always mean to Ed?” Kristen responded.
“Because he’s weird”
“He’s my friend and I don’t appreciate it when you upset him”
“You’re actually friends with that freak?”
“Don’t call him that!”
“Why not? It’s true”
Kristen then slapped Harvey, who yelled out in pain. Ed heard everything from his office and he smiled to himself.
When Ed’s shift ended, he drove to his apartment and explained everything to Oswald, who listened intently.
