You Can Hear it in the Silence

Summary:

He could hear the car quiet, could feel the silence fill the car. Still, he kept his gaze straight ahead. It’s fine. Silence is fine. Great even.

“Andrew…” Nicky started.

“No.”

“Did you just…”

“I did not.”

The seats in the Maserati are adjustable. Nicky is tall. Andrew is not.

Work Text:

Well this was Annoying. Problematic. Aggravating. See it wouldn’t normally be an issue. And yet here he was. He should’ve never let Nicky drive the maserati yesterday. Then it wouldn’t have to end this way, with all four foxes in his car wrapped in body bags six feet underground.

As with any Tuesday, this morning had been typical and frankly, mundane. Despite their varying morning routines, all the monsters were gathered in the dorm parking lot by 7am sharp. (Nicky and Aaron were late once. By seven minutes. Andrew left after two and refused to go to practice for three days.) Punctuality is a virtue.
He’d noticed the complication as soon as he opened the car door, yet he had foolishly chosen to ignore it. And that’s how he landed in his current predicament. He must be spending too much time with Neil.

Sitting in the driver's seat, Andrew can only reach the gas pedal if the seat is pushed to its most forward position. This seat was not. Nicky must have adjusted it yesterday to accommodate his height. Fucking tall people.

Soon they would begin to wonder why he hasn’t started driving yet. Already Neil was studying him.

“Staring,” Andrew grumbled.

Neil didn’t reply, but his widening grin and the look in his eyes told Andrew he knew exactly the type of situation Andrew was in.

He had no choice. He had to do it. Putting on his scariest glare, Andrew reached down between the seat cushion and car door and began slowly cranking the seat forward.
He could hear the car quiet, could feel the silence fill the car. Still, he kept his gaze straight ahead. It’s fine. Silence is fine. Great even.

“Andrew…” Nicky started.

“No.”

“Did you just…”

“I did not.”

Out of the corner of his eye, he saw Neil trying hard not to laugh. Neil had lived long enough, Andrew decided. The second he gets back to the dorm this afternoon, Andrew would begin making arrangements for his death. Maybe he’d suffocate Neil in his sleep.
