Work Text:
“Morning.” Shane whispered into her hair.
The farmer, now wife and mother sighed contentedly, “Morning.”
Last night had been a rough labor, their daughter came during the night and Harvey did a wonderful job. She had been large for a while and her energy levels had been an all time low. She had been ready for the baby to come out.
Shane had been wonderful during the whole process. After his initial freak-out when they found out they were pregnant, he had become a mother hen. Making sure she was comfortable and forbidding her from working on the farm during her last trimester.
Instead, he took care of the farm and it was a steep learning curve for him. He knew how to take care of the animals, thanks to Marnie, but the rest of the farm was new territory.
“How’s Jamie?” She whispered.
They named her Jamie because it was a mashup of Marnie and Jas’s name. When she proposed this name he had teared up and told her it was perfect.
“She’s sleeping,” He kissed her forehead, “how are you feeling?”
“Like every muscle in my body is made of Jell-O.”
To say that she was exhausted would be an understatement. It was taking all of her energy to stay awake.
The bed shifted as Shane got up to check on their baby and her heart melted when he scooped her up. Jamie was the size of Shane’s head and his hands enveloped their daughters head.
She fussed and he kissed the top of her head before bringing her closer to their hospital bed. Shane helped her to sit up and slid onto the bed, cradling Jamie between them.
“She has your nose.” She tapped the little button with a teary expression.
“What a tragedy.” He laughed when she swatted his shoulder. “She’s perfect.”
Her face filled with tears as they stared at their little creation and Shane’s expression turned concerned.
“Is there-” “It’s just, thank you, she’s perfect and you’re perfect.” She interrupted him..
Her sniffling caused the baby to start fussing in earnest.
“Oh no, sweetie, it’s okay. Momma’s okay. She’s just so happy.” She kissed her on the top of the head and turned to share a kiss with Shane. “I love you.”
His own eyes were glassy as he embraced the two most important people to him. “I love you too.”
