life by the sea

Summary:

tommy, a moobloom hybrid, welcomes his older brother wilbur home.

Work Text:

The sound of wind chimes, the ocean, and a camera taking pictures was the only thing Tommy needed to relax his mind.

His brother Wilbur would be returning home and he wanted to get him a homecoming present, but nothing at the farmer’s market was good enough.

Now, he is currently laying in a flower field near his house. His tail and ears twitch every once and a while as he eats handfuls of grass and admires the clouds passing by above him.

Then, a thought came to mind.

His brother had always wanted to take care of a plant, but had never been able to since he’s been too busy touring with his band. Maybe he could give him a potted plant; Wilbur would definitely like that.

He’s not gonna be leaving for awhile so might as well get him something that’ll keep him busy.

A few days later, Tommy was sitting on the porch, a sketchbook in hand as he rocked back and forth in a rocking chair he had gotten as a birthday present from his father.

The memory made him giggle.

His father had hid himself in his workshop for days to make the chair for him. When he had finally stepped out, his blonde hair was sticking up in all directions, his matching green shirt and pants had sawdust all over them, and he had intense dark circles.

“You need to sleep,” was the first thing Tommy said and his father headed to his bedroom without a word.

Tommy had prepared a feast for his father as a thank you and his father really appreciated it since he had literally been starving himself.

The sound of a car honking brought Tommy out of his thoughts and he looked up to see Wilbur pulling into the makeshift driveway. He turned off the car and stepped out, stretching his limbs and yawning before making his way over to the house.

“How’s my favorite brother doing?”

Tommy let out a laugh. “Don’t let Techno hear you say that,” he replied as he pulled Wilbur in for a hug.

“Oh, I don’t need to, he already knows.” Wilbur joked as they stepped into the house.

They talked for a little while longer before parting ways. Tommy headed towards the kitchen to prepare lunch and Wilbur up to his room to unpack his things.

~~~
The house was quiet. Tommy had finished making lunch a while ago and delivered a plate to Wilbur before going to his room to take a nap. That had been a little over three hours ago and the boy was still sound asleep.
So, to cure his boredom, Wilbur wandered around the small island they called home. There was a school, a clinic, a fire and police department, grocery, and a farmer’s market during the summer months  on the weekends.
There were also a few small shops, but there wasn’t really anything interesting to do.
That’s how Wilbur found himself wandering through the house. He hadn’t been home in almost a year and wanted to see how much had changed when he’d been gone.
With quiet steps, Wilbur walked from room to room.
First was the living room. Instead of the pine green couch their father had gotten when they first moved into the house almost fifteen years ago, there was now a red one in its place. Its color was similar to a cherry and Wilbur couldn’t help but smile.
Tommy was obviously the one to pick it out. The boy was obsessed with the color red because of how different it was compared to his yellow fur.
There was a flat screen TV mounted to the wall and a small table underneath it with a few pictures of their family. A picture of Tommy as a newborn caught his attention and he picked up the picture, dusting it off as he admired it.
Their father and mother were holding Tommy in their arms while Techno and Wilbur were standing on either side of them. They were all looking at the camera and standing in front of their home.
It was the day they had moved in.
The other pictures were of Tommy, Techno, and Wilbur during different times of their lives, but those weren’t as interesting as the one Wilbur had looked at.
Just as Wilbur had finished looking at the photos, he turned around and saw a sleepy Tommy coming down the stairs.
“Hey, sleeping beauty. How’d you sleep?”
Tommy smiled and ran his hands through his hair, “great, how’d you like seeing the town again?”
Wilbur grinned. “It's the same as always,” he replied, “I'm happy to be back.”
