Cole was awake yet again. He usually never has problems falling asleep. But recently the noirette always found himself waking up somewhere in the middle of the night.
He turned around in bed to find Kai apparently awake. He didn't face him but judging by the dim light that emanated from somewhere close to him, Kai seemed to be on his phone.
Cole decided to shuffle closer to the fire master and wrap his arms around his torso. His body was - as always - warmer than those of the rest of the ninja thanks to his element.
Kai only then noticed that Cole was awake. He turned his phone off and turned around to face the noirette. "Can't sleep?"
"Yeah, I woke up yet again. It's honestly kind of annoying. Guess I just can't sleep in one go recently." Cole said. Kai gave him a sympathetic smile "You know… now that we're both awake we might as well use the time to cuddle a little?"
How could Cole say no to this request? He always loved being close to his friends and hugging them. But cuddling with his boyfriend? That's like one of the best things to him.
He gave him a quick kiss on the forehead and answered "Of course dear." Cole knew exactly how much Kai loved this type of attention. And he was going to give it to him whenever it was needed.
Kai proceeded to wrap his arms around and hug Cole properly in an attempt to be as close to him as possible.
The earth master started relaxing. Having Kai by his side always made him feel at ease. And it was just one of the many things he loved about the brunette. Cole loved his confidence but also the much softer side of him that he had the privilege of seeing when they were all to themselves. Or how he always managed to make everyone laugh despite cracking one of the worst jokes.
Kai made Cole happy. And it's always moments like these that give him enough time to think and truly appreciate what he has.
"Are you sure that there isn't a reason for why you always wake up in the middle of night?" Kai's question made Cole stop in his previous thought process to actually think about it. 'Was there really no reason for it?' he wondered as he absentmindedly started caressing Kai's hair.
"Well, I at least can't think of anything. Maybe it's just a temporary thing. I don't really know" he answered. The brunette hummed in response and hugged Cole just a little tighter.
Cole's thoughts started drifting to various places again. Before he knew it he started hearing soft snores escaping Kai's lips. 'He must've been very tired despite still being on his phone.' he thought.
The brunette always looked so peaceful when he was asleep. This sight gave the earth master a small smile.
He whispered "I love you." before giving him a kiss on the forehead and drifting off to sleep himself.
