Work Text:
Innes had never particularly liked kids. Perhaps that's why he ended up teaching history classes for the local highschool. Fate's funny like that, you hate one thing and you end up doing it for the rest of your life.
That teacher job was the very reason he was in the local library looking for books on the war against the Demon King. He didn't need the books to teach the kids, he thought. He had lived through it and had the scars to prove it. Being immortal surely helped with his job.
He went to go grab a book about the royalty and nobility of Magvel when his hand bumped into another. He was almost annoyed, that was until he looked up.
He was different now, shaggy brown hair instead of blue and a more relaxed look, but he was still unmistakably him.
Ephraim was as beautiful as ever.
"I'm sorry! I can go grab another book if you're interested in this one! I mean I'm not much of a reader anyways-"
His apologetic rambling cut through Innes' wistful thoughts. He hastily cut the man off replying "No no, you're all good, I was just browsing. Might I ask why you're checking out a book about Magvel's past nobility?"
"Oh! Well that's a long story actually... Call it deja vu or something but I can't help feeling like I know a few of them... pretty stupid huh?"
Gods how Innes wanted to kiss him right now. First time he sees the man since his death and he's already putting himself down. He needed to say something to make this less awkward. Perhaps helping him look through the book would jog his memory, especially if he was already remembering faces.
"...That's not stupid at all. I find the idea of reincarnation quite nice. Imagine reuniting with a lover after a lifetime apart."
There was a spark in the brunette' eyes he hadn't seen in hundreds of years. Now was his chance.
"I can help you with the names and faces if you're interested. I'm a history teacher so I've got a pretty good grasp on these things"
"Really?!" His eyes lit up as a smile crept onto his lips. "Thanks so much! I honestly had no idea where to begin."
The man paused before whisper-shouting "OH! By the way my name's Ephraim! It's a pleasure to meet you" he awkwardly stuck out his hand. "I'm Innes. The pleasure's all mine" he took the man's hand and shook it.
Innes chuckled to himself softly as he went through all the people in the book. The page was turned to a particular section that made the young man stop. His draconic counterpart looked at him confused before staring at the page below.
Royalty during the War against the Demon King Fomortiis
There were 7 faces sprawled between the two pages. Innes turned quickly to the man once more to study his reaction. Ephraim's eyes were glossed over and he looked as if he had seen a ghost. "Eph..." He watched as tears spilled from the prince's eyes. Ephraim looked up at Innes, unsure of what to do next. He let out a small chuckle before commenting "well it makes sense they looked so familiar-"
Innes couldn't help himself. He swiftly closed the distance between the two. Enveloping Ephraim in a hug as he kissed him. By the time they pulled apart, Ephraim was grinning ear to ear. "I get a kiss and my memories back? Today must be my lucky day"
He was promptly shut up with another kiss.
