The body underneath them goes still, pulse fluttering to a standstill. There's a collective pause in the room, a holding of breath.
Is it true? Are they really? The words echo throughout the room, unsaid but understood.
It goes on long enough that there's a low murmur that breaks out. As if sensing the flutter of movement, the body on the table gasps horribly, breath heaving into lungs that seek to reject it. The body sits up, rubbing its eyes.
