Chapter 1: let's be scared together

Chapter Text

New York - August - 1981 - 6:29 am EST

-----------------------------------------------

No-one was fully sure when this all started.

Some people thought it could be an airborne disease..

Some thought it was contamination in some sort of food, or in the water.

The cause of the government? Cause they love to mess with things and send them out.

None of them knew.

They would have been spending their days cooped up in an abandoned apartment building.

Sure, not the most convenient place when it came to needing to leave to get supplies.. But at least there were plenty of rooms where they could rob the previous owners' belongings.

They had a variety of things.

Clothes.

Food. Mostly canned goods.. if there was any fresh food? There wasn’t anymore, so they chose to avoid the fridges to save their appetites and noses.

There was bottled water, batteries, toiletries, anything that could seem useful in this shitty situation they were in. It was the 80’s! Things like this didn’t happen! It was a widespread pandemic and they couldn’t stop it! And what came with that pandemic was an infection that caused dead corpses to become brain-dead... And they didn’t even know what caused it...

The group that they had consisted of 7 individuals so far.

Trina, who would have also been with Mendel and Jason before this all happened.. Jason, tired of playing a long and painful game of monopoly.

Charlotte and Cordelia would have met up after hearing the news. The doctor took the day off to meet up with her girlfriend, and they spent the rest of that day together.

And Whizzer, who would have been in Marvin's arms. They were enjoying the intimacy they had together..

It had been almost a month since this all started.. Almost a month or two since Jason's Baseball game.. When they all met up in the new year they were in..

Was it hard for some of them? Yeah.

Did this mean that they couldn't really live their lives normally again? Yeah.

But were they slowly getting used to it? ..Yeah?

If you could call stupid arguments over the simplest things 'Getting used to it', Yeah, they were doing great.

-----

"Marvin, No, I am not wearing that.." Whizzer had almost a repulsed look towards the v-neck shirt that was shown in front of his face.. He had no problem wearing something that revealed his skin, he practically wore shirts that were always unbuttoned 2 or 3 buttons.. But not in such an ugly color

"C'mon! You've been wearing the same shirt for weeks, you gotta change out of it." Marvin waved the shirt in front of Whizzer, who let out a sound of 'EH', and stepped back, like the article of clothing could be the death of him. And Marvin couldn't be one to talk. Even if he switched his clothes over the time frame, he still had the clothing style of a dad... And a lack of cologne to go with it.

"I'd rather die." Whizzer deadpanned.

"Really? You're gonna be that dramatic?" Marvin rose a brow, crossing his arms.. Yet a small chuckle would slip past his lips.

"Yeah, cause I don't want to be caught wearing something like that." He waved a finger in a circle motion.

"Whizzer, It's not that bad."

"That's what you say.. You wouldn't even be able to tell what fashion was if it was under you're nose."

Marvin would let out a small scoff, a look of disbelief towards what the other said. And Whizzer would just stifle a laugh..

"Its true." Whizzer looked the other up and down with a smirk, meeting the other's stance.

...

"Marv- Marvin. Stop.... STOP-!"

"GET IT OFF OF ME!"

"MARVIN-!"

...

Whizzer grumbled to himself, tugging at the shirt his lover forced him to wear. He had no problem with Marvin undressing him in heated fits of passion.. Feeling the shorter males' hands work to unbutton his shirt made his heart beat faster, and makes a dumb smile appear on his lips.. How Marvin kissed his neck and ran his hands through the taller male's hair...

But this was just mean.

The shirt didn't even look good with his tan complexion in his opinion. It was a neon orange. Marvin couldn't even pick a shirt that wasn't such an eyesore? It wasn't even a color that he thought looked good on him, like a light teal or a pink, or-- Copper. He looked like a ripoff Velma. And her clothes weren't even entirely orange in the show.. It was more on the yellow side!

"Don't be so hard on yourself, Whizzer! You still look great." Jason gave Whizzer a thumbs up, trying to be reassuring even though he saw the look on Whizzer's face..

"Thanks, bud.." The latter male spoke with a small smile to Jason's words, his hands were messing with the fabric, but then he dropped the action.

Whizzer would slump down on the couch that stood in the living room. There was also a TV, next to it was a lamp, and on the opposite side stood a dying houseplant.

Their source of entertainment would have been board games: Monopoly, Chess, Pictionary, and Scrabble.. and whatever conversations they tried to make up. Once and a while someone would take a wack at trying to get the TV to work. Whether that be messing with the antennas, or just trying to bang a fist on it hard enough to get some sort of connection.. Though sometimes the only answer they got was the light roar of static.

The power was sucky as well. At some point the city thought it would be a good idea to turn off the power in certain areas to save it.. Which seemed useless at this point unless they expected the rich corpses to be using it any better than they would be.

Notes:

I might write more on this, but I mostly am posting this so it doesn't get lost in my drafts :)

The chapters might be small, since i had motivation a while ago, and it kinda died hshshs
