Soap was still awake.
Despite his best efforts.
He’d tried everything. Doing pushups, counting, wanking, hell, he’d even tried to meditate and do breathing exercises, but nothing came of it. He was as awake as he had been since he started trying to tucker himself out or relax.
Soap huffed, tossing his covers off of himself and throwing himself up. He sighed, rubbing his face and making his way to the door, clad in just his sweats as he went. No one was up at this time, and even if they were, Soap doubted it would matter much that he was just in sweats.
He made his way to the mess, hoping that maybe a fix of tea or some warm milk or something could help ease the—
As Soap swung open the door to the mess hall, he was met with the sight of Ghost, back facing him, hunched over the counter with his mask rolled up. He blinked a few times, rubbing his eyes and looking back up just to make sure he was seeing right.
And hearing right, now that he tuned in. Ghost was muttering to himself, and John wondered just how much sleep Ghost had actually been getting if he, one, was muttering to himself in the mess in the dead of night, and two, had yet to notice him.
Soap swallowed, blinking and unmoving, listening to Ghost slowly get louder.
“Y’know what? Fuck this biscuit.” Soap faltered a minute, wondering if he heard right.
“I don’t want a bourbon cream. Fuck you, you crunchy, fuckin’, cream filled prick! Fuck off back to your biscuit tin!” He whisper-yelled, and Soap blinked a few times, trying so hard not to laugh.
“What am I doin’? What have I become?” Ghost went back to muttering, but Soap crept a little closer, listening intently.
“Who do I think I am? Who the fuck am I lookin’ at? Do I fuckin’ want some?” Soap paused his movements, hearing that and watching Ghost spin around, but before anything else happened, Soap realized he had been spotted.
Neither moved. Just stared. For about a minute.
“...Ghost?” Soap broke the silence first, seeing as Ghost probably wasn’t going to, not after that lovely display.
“I’m not well, Johnny,” He sighed, and Soap blinked hard. “Not a word of this, sergeant.” Ghost finished, immediately taking his leave and dodging Soap on his way out, leaving the Scot to process all of that alone…
What the fuck?
