Daisy couldn’t be replaced, she couldn’t be painted over with the fact that she would never be able to brush the hair from Guest’s face ever again. Charlotte couldn’t be painted over, either, her existence had been one of the reasons why Guest was fighting for as long as he could handle it.

Guest clutched the yogurt tighter. "Nothing. Seriously." He tried to sidestep, but Elliot didn't budge. The fridge hummed louder in the sudden silence.
"Nothing?" Elliot’s voice stayed low, calm. "You’ve been jumpy as a cat in a thunderstorm for seven days straight. You flinch if I move too fast. You stare at me like I’ve grown a second head." He shifted slightly, filling the doorway. "Did I do something?"
Guest's throat clicked. "No."
Elliot stepped closer, fridge humming like a trapped insect. "Then what?"
Or, Guest has been a klutz for a whole week, and it's because he can't stop ogling his hot boyfriend, Elliot.
