Chapter 1: i do

Chapter Text

from the moment they shared a glimpse of each other on that very first day, lucy knew that this strangely grumpy, ocean eyed man would be the one. although she had forgotten those thoughts for so long, they had risen once he shared his breath with her, saving her life from a miserable ending.

now, here they stood, hand in hand and staring each other as if they are the only other person in the world. their long-time friend and boss, wade grey, officiating the day that could not be more perfect. it was a small wedding, with a garden looking out onto the ocean and fairy lights surrounding their moment. tim despised beaches but lucy adored the water, and he adored lucy, so they agreed on the semi beach, semi land venue. only their closest friends attended, they were considered family, all of mid-wilshire was.

lucy stood in a lacy wedding dress, flowing in sync with her movements. it was just right for her. the necklace jackson west had given her sat cautiously on her chest. she held him with her during the best and worst times of her life. she could not let him miss this moment. the minute tim witnessed lucy walking down that aisle, he was speechless. she looked flawless (as always), and nothing could keep him from eyeing her as tears began welling. this woman is going to be his wife, the mantra that played on repeat as she stepped towards him, her arm looped with grey’s. he will spend the rest of his life with this woman.

time came for vows, lucy’s first.

she sighed, pressure building in her eyes as tears stung.

“tim. the day that you saw me in that roll call room, my first day as a rookie, i knew damn well nothing was gonna stop me. i knew by that irritated look on your face that you were going to be the man who will drive me crazy till’ the day i die.”

chuckles echoed through the crowd softly.

“after a while, i set those feelings aside until that very moment you saved me. i knew somehow you would, but from then on, it was set in stone. no matter what, fate brought me back to you and i couldn’t be more grateful. from then, now and forever, i will love you.”

her voiced cracked. she knew she had to finish it soon or else the dam would break.

“i am yours and you are mine. i love you, tim bradford. and i cannot wait to spend eternity with you.”

she looked towards tim, seeing tears flowing as he watched her in awe. sniffles were heard and aww’s were exchanged through their group of friends. then came tim’s turn at vows.

“lucy chen, when i began my journey as your training officer, never in a million years would i have thought to fall in love with my rookie. i was difficult, miserable and a straight up asshole but you saw right through that. you helped me tear down those walls, you lifted me up during my darkest days. i was so blinded by my own stupidity to not realise who was the right one all along.” tim paused, taking a deep breath to tranquilise his nerves.

“you stayed with me through everything, and i thank my lucky stars that allowed me to finally see that you are my soulmate. it’s all you. it has always been you, it always will be.”

one small, shared look and lucy was in tears, desperately trying to not ruin her simple makeup which took her former roommate, tamara, so long to do.

“i love you and i promise to you, i will always love you.”

he turned his head to their shared family, immediately noticing three people who were also crying. angela lopez, aaron thorsen and... nyla harper? a slight smile spread across his face, knowing that his people were there.

he turned back to lucy, who held his calloused hands so tight but lovingly.

grey’s voice bellowed. “tim bradford, do you take lucy chen to be your lawful wedded wife, to take care and love her in sickness and in health?”

he gave her a smile only she knew. the softest gaze that sat upon him.

not letting his attention off her, he speaks in confidence. “i do.” wade grinned. he turned to lucy.

“lucy chen, do you take tim bradford to be your lawful wedded husband, to take care and love him in sickness and in health?”

immediately came out the words, “i do.” she has never been this sure before.

grey’s grin was from ear to ear. they had shared their rings, both so simple and sweet. both wasting no time to become wedded.

“well, it now gives me great pleasure to pronounce you as husband and wife. you may now kiss the bride.”

one hand grasped lucy’s waist as another cupped her cheek, tim leant in for a kiss, the kiss that will be remembered forever. a kiss that will be a story never left untold to their future grandkids. lucy’s soft lips pressed against his in chaste, the taste of her strawberry chapstick leaving tim smiling. it’s his favourite.

cheers were heard and flower petals were thrown as they turned and stumbled past the small crew that had watched them unionise their relationship. angela had gifted tim the look of pride. he knew that she was proud.

as the two reached the end of the aisle, tim shifted his head, whispering in her ear. “you really are a mastermind. i cannot wait to show you tonight.” she scoffed with a smile, hitting his shoulder ever so lightly. she loved this man and he loved her.
