Work Text:

Ominis stood away about 10 feet, trying to press down the panic attack he felt rising. He held his breath when Sebastian asked if you were ready. After the cursed spell left Sebastian’s lips, you cried out in agony.
Forgetting about using his wand as a guide, Ominis rushed over to you. He tripped going up the stairs, but quickly regained his balance.
“Are you alright?” Ominis knew that there was no way that you heard Sebastian ask that over the wail leaving your lips.
“Of course, they’re not bloody alright,” Ominis sneered and reached out, hand finding your arm. You didn’t react to his touch initially, and he reached up, that same hand grabbing your shoulder. Ominis hesitated, not sure if he could offer you any sort of comfort at this moment. You leaned into his touch, and Ominis quickly wrapped both of his arms around you and pulled you closer to him.
The scene before Sebastian made bile rise in his throat. He wished he was the one comforting you, but he knew that he did not deserve that. His thoughts shifted and he suddenly grew angry at Ominis. He should’ve been the one to cast it; he knew how to. Ominis forced his hand, and now Ominis was comforting you? That isn’t fair either, Sebastian rationalized. Once you started to stand with Ominis’ help, Sebastian could finally move his feet. He started to reach out to you, offering himself for you to lean on.
Suddenly, Ominis wrapped his arms tightly around you again, blocking Sebastian from touching you. Sebastian could feel the rage pouring from Ominis. “I’m sorry,” Sebastian spoke to you, hoping you would understand.
“It’s okay, Sebastian. I know that it was the only way to get out of here.”
You felt Ominis’ arms tightened around you. “We could’ve tried to figure out a different way.” Ominis spat.
“It’s okay, Ominis. I’m fine. Let’s keep going.”
Sebastian felt bitter as he watched you guide Ominis through the doorway as Ominis supported your weight.

After a couple days, you decide to send a letter via owl to Ominis.
‘Please meet me outside the Room of Requirement after dinner. I would like to speak with you’

You skipped eating dinner yourself, too anxious to see Ominis. You hoped he would come but you weren’t holding your breath. You hear footsteps, and you turn around, seeing Ominis approaching you. Once he’s close enough, you simply thank him. He nods and awaits for you to open the door.
Once inside, you guide Ominis to the second room, sitting down on a couch. Ominis stayed standing, ready to leave when he deemed.
You look down as you begin talking. “Thank you, Ominis, truly. I care about Sebastian and you dearly. I am ready to accept my responsibility in Sebastian’s choices. I should’ve been more stern. I should’ve listened to you.”
His jaw clenched. “Yes, you should have.”
“I will keep my distance from you both, if you desire. I understand that my actions led to this and I don’t want to tear you and Sebastian apart more than I already have. I only ask that you do not abandon Sebastian, please. He needs you now, more than ever.”
Ominis sighed. “He needs you too.”
You pause, not sure how to respond to him.
Ominis sits down next to you on the couch. “Sebastian cares about you deeply. And his actions are still his own. You didn’t teach him any of those curses.” He shook his head. “I’m not that mad at you, truly. Most of my rage is directed towards Sebastian.”
“Can you remain his friend?”
“Yes, of course. I care about him too much.”
You relax, leaning back against the couch. “Thank you, Ominis.” You slowly reach out, placing your hand on top of his hand resting on the couch cushion. “I don’t know what I would do without you.”
Ominis couldn’t stop the smirk forming on his lips. “Probably be dead or in Azkaban.”
You nod in agreement.
“I have a request.”
You give his hand a slight squeeze, showing him that you’re listening.
“Stop doing everything by yourself. You have Sebastian and I. Let us help more. You worry Sebastian when you disappear on one of your little adventures.”
“I don’t think Sebastian has ever worried about me in that regard. He believes in my abilities.”
“Fine then. I worry about you. All the time. Sebastian must get fed up with me.”
“Thank you, Ominis. I will make an effort to communicate with you better.”
You both sit in silence for a few minutes. After you pull your hand away, Ominis speaks again. “I still don’t know what you look like.”
“What do you mean?”
He shifted towards you, his knees bumping yours. He raises his hands. “Your face. Can I see it?”
“Oh. Yes, that’s fine.” You sit forward, knees bumping against him again. You placed both of your hands on top of his and guided them to your face, placing his hands on your cheeks.
As his fingertips began feeling your temple, you became painfully aware of how soft his hands were. He was very gentle as he felt your face, memorizing every detail as he went. When he found the scar that ran down one side of your face, he traced it lightly. When his fingers reached your lips, you stopped breathing. He carefully traced the outline of your lips. One finger prodded too far and barely pushed in between your lips, almost feeling as if you had kissed his fingers. You gasp.
Ominis had almost jerked his hands away at the sound, but caught himself. He apologized as he moved his hands to cup your face. He held your face in place as his thumbs stroked your cheeks.
Ominis felt the wetness of your tears before you realized you were crying. He thought momentarily of tasting your tears, but pushed the thought away.
You spoke his name, choking as you did.
“It’s okay. I’m here.” With his words, you began to weep. His arms wrapped around your shoulders, as your arms wrapped around his waist. You pressed your face against his chest and sobbed. Ominis gently stroked your hair with one hand.
Once your crying had stopped, you took a deep breath, calming yourself. “I love you.”
As soon as the words left your mouth, you sucked in a breath. Bloody hell. Sometimes you really wished you didn’t say everything that was on your mind.
You couldn’t see the smile on his face as he replied, “I love you too.” Ominis resolved to leave the conversation at that. He only hoped that you would explore those feelings with him at a later time.
