Work Text:

The rain danced along the window as the storm continued on, the occasional clap of thunder reminding Jongin why he stayed the night at Baekhyun’s. Well, that and the bottle of wine they shared together when the rain started.

They were supposed to go out for dinner, yet now he was digging through Baekhyun’s drawers while Baekhyun was finishing his shower. The towel wrapped around his waist shifted down slightly while he looked for clothes to wear. Each drawer overflowed with colorful sweaters and dark sweatpants. Jongin pulled a sweater out and smelled it, the warm cotton scent mixed with Baekhyun.

“Too warm,” he muttered with blush on his cheeks, putting it back in the drawer.

“Baek!” yelled Jongin, “where did you put the clothes I left last time I was over?” The shower kept running in the background. “Baekhyun!”

“I was thinking!” responded Baekhyun over the waterfall. “It’s in the bottom drawer in the back!” Jongin hummed and thanked him.

When he opened the bottom drawer, he found a cropped tee and a small pair of sweatshorts. And an extra toothbrush. And a spare set of headphones. And… Jongin shut the drawer quickly.

He turned around to look in the mirror, dropping his towel to the floor. He smirked, realizing there wasn't any underwear in the drawer. He decided to go commando. Not like Baekhyun had not just seen much more.

He slipped the shorts on, his skin lightly grazing all of the cotton. Then he carefully put the shirt on, avoiding his still damp hair. He had already showered for the night, the scent of Baekhyun’s fresh woody shampoo fresh.

The sound of rain became clearer as he noticed the faucet turned off. Jongin tensed up, his eyes darting towards the bed.

He ran and threw himself onto the bed, disheveling the sheets underneath him. Quickly,  Jongin tucked himself under the covers and proceeded to pull the sheets up, trying to seem as if he had been laying there casually the entire time.

A small muffled noise sounding like a chuckle came from behind the bathroom door.

Jongin waited a few minutes as Baekhyun dried himself up.

The hinge of the door creaked, drawing Jongin’s attention towards the bathroom. So much for looking nonchalant.

Jongin smiled at Baekhyun as he walked out of the bathroom half-naked, a towel loosely wrapped around his waist. He dried his hair with a smaller towel, rubbing it in carefully.

“Like what ya see?” asked Baekhyun, winking at Jongin.

“Maybe a little,” replied Jongin. Baekhyun threw the smaller towel at Jongin.

Jongin was hit as he looked down at the slight tent in the front of the wrapped towel, mind elsewhere.

“I knew I was just a piece of meat to you, Nini,” said Baekhyun, exaggeratingly covering his chest as he walked over to grab a pair of sweatpants from his dresser.

“Oh, absolutely,” Jongin chuckled as he tossed the small towel into the hamper.

When Jongin looked back, Baekhyun had dropped the towel onto the floor, teasing Jongin with a small shake of his ass as he began to pull his sweatpants up.

“Actually, maybe I don’t,” Jongin laughed as he patted the bed next to him.

Baekhyun rolled his eyes as he finally got his sweatpants on. He took Jongin’s lead and sat next to him on his bed. Jongin lifted his head up and Baekhyun slung his arm around shoulders, as if he was made to rest his head on Baekhyun’s chest. The rain continued to peer in, viewing the two of them through the window they fell on.

Every breath Baekhyun took raised Jongin’s head slightly. Baekhyun’s fingers lightly brushed against Jongin’s chest, mapping out all the places Baekhyun had wanted to explore. This was nice, just the two of them alone together, only rain drops getting a glimpse of this moment.

Jongin traced his hand down the lines of Baekhyun’s torso, traversing each divet slowly and carefully until he reached Baekhyun’s waistband. Baekhyun’s breath hitched in anticipation.

“What are we?” asked Jongin as he fiddled with the drawstrings of Baekhyun’s sweatpants. Baekhyun looked towards Jongin to see his eyes looking directly towards him.

“You know that you’re my best friend,” said Baekhyun. He squeezed his arm around Jongin's chest tighter, pulling him closer to his chest. Jongin wanted something more than that.

“Maybe I don’t,” whispered Jongin, slowly pulling himself away. “Maybe I want to know for sure,” his voice cracked slightly. He tried to chuckle as he traced circles on his own thigh, half hoping Baekhyun wouldn’t notice, half praying he would know exactly what he had meant.

“We’ve known too much of each other to not say what we mean in front of one another,” said Baekhyun, keeping the distance between them. He shifted slightly as Jongin shuddered.

“Is that all we are?” he asked cautiously, his eyes drifting back to Baekhyun’s gaze. The rain began to fall harder, the window coated in water.

“Is that all you want for us to be?” asked Baekhyun. The lightning struck again and Jongin scooted closer in response. Baekhyun chuckled.

“I-” Jongin paused, his cheeks flushed. Jongin gestured to the two of them. “This?”

Baekhyun started to open his mouth as a loud boom of thunder came from outside. In an instant, the lights went out.

Without hesitation, Baekhyun pulled Jongin closer to him, his face a breath away from his chest. Jongin took in a deep breath, his eyes shut. Jongin breathed out, now trying to take in air through his nose.

Baekhyun’s earthy scent went in and out as Jongin breathed. Each breath of his scent calmed him down, until Jongin’s breathing evened.

“You’re gonna be okay,” said Baekhyun, as he rubbed Jongin’s back slowly.

Eventually, Jongin removed himself from Baekhyun’s chest, his back now against the frame. He rubbed his face to wake himself up. Jongin couldn’t remember the last time he had been able to get through a storm so calm.

“We don’t have to talk any more about what I mentioned earlier,” said Jongin. He thought about all he wanted to say, full of feelings yet devoid of the words.

“Are you sure?” questioned Baekhyun lightly.

“Yeah,” said Jongin. Baekhyun raised an eyebrow. “I promise,” he said. Jongin melted into Baekhyun’s warmth, feeling the steady rhythm of his heartbeat beneath his ear.

“Let’s just go to bed.” Baekhyun nodded and took Jongin into his arms, rubbing his back slowly.

Jongin’s eyes slowly began to flutter, the weight of his eyelids increasing every time Baekhyun touched. The storm outside ranged on, yet the arms around Jongin kept him grounded inside and out.

“I don't really know what we are,” said Jongin quietly, “but I'm not sure I need to.” Jongin pressed a light kiss to Baekhyun’s cheek.

“As long as we’re together, Nini,” said Baekhyun before he kissed Jongin’s forehead, “I have all I need.”

Jongin fell asleep that night easier than he had in quite some time.
