Chapter Text
‘Sooha. No matter what people say about you… I trust you’
Sooha POV:
‘Chris!!!’
Sooha looked at his neck
‘No, no, no! This can’t be… You were only 12!’
Chris was laying there… dead. A bite mark on his neck and a huge stake in him.
“Look at that bite mark on his neck.”
“There’s no blood left in him.”
“I’m sure it was a vampire.”
“A vampire?”
“That’s never happened before in our village.”
“Do you think… that she did it?”
“That girl named Sooha?”
“Bad things keep happening ever since she came to our village.”
“A fire broke out at Chris’s house only a little while ago…”
“How could a tragedy happen again?”
“Maybe the rumor about the girl is true…”
…
“People say you’re a vampire.”
Sooha looked up to see someone standing above her.
“What?” she replied
“Well, are you?”
Sooha looked away, annoyed.
He reaches out, “I’m Chris. Iv’e never seen you out in the daylight. What’s your name?”
“Hmph!” She turns away
“…”
“Is your name ‘Hmph’”?
“No!!! My name’s--“
“Sooha, right? I actually knew already.” She looks up, “You’re famous in our village.”
“They say you’re the vampire that moved here.”
“I’M NOT A VAMPIRE!!!”
“Really? Everyone says… that you’ve bounced around different cities… you don’t come out during the day… walk around alone at night…and eat pigeons.” He said with a disturbing (not really) face.
“ABSOLUTELY NOT!!! Especially that last part!!!”
“Right? I thought so.”
Sooha drooped down
“Ugh… why are there such weird rumors going around me?”
“Why don’t you just come out during the day? You can go tell everyone it’s not true.”
She looks down
‘No matter… how many times I tell them that it’s not true…’
‘…Nobody ever believes my words. And what if…’
‘What if…’
‘What if I really am a vampire? I’m scared that the rumors might be true.’
“I don’t think” he starts “you’re a vampire.”
“Because I was born with a limp.”
“Huh?”
“If you think that you’re not like the others you become afraid of facing them. Lots of people gossip about those who are different from them. I once heard someone say that my parents would regret giving birth to me. And I was scared. That might be true. But not anymore. I know for sure that my parents love me. So I don’t let stupid gossip like that get to me.” He smiles
“Let’s be friends. Other kids don’t let me join them either.”
“Sure.”
…
‘It’s my first time having a friend. Spending days, full of fun and waiting to tell my secret to someone else.”
…
“Whoa!” He said
“I-It’s a weird ability, isn’t it?”
“Not at all! It’s a special one! That’s so cool!!!”
“You really think so…? Your’e not scared that I might be a vampire?”
“Nah, of course not. I know you.”
“Really? You mean it? You really think that?”
“Yeah!”
She looks down ‘I’m still scared that I might be one, though.’
“Sooha.”
“Huh?”
“Wanna try bitting my neck?”
“…”
“WHAT?! NONSENSE!! ABSOLUTELY NOT!! What if something goes wro-?!”
“It’s okay, Sooha. I trust you.”
She droops down
“B-But… But what if…”
“You don’t have to do it right now. When you believe that I trust you, and, when you start believing in yourself.”
‘It’s my first time…”
“When that time comes, promise me that you’ll bite my neck.”
‘… Having someone who trusts me more than I trust myself! Meeting you was the best thing that happened in my life. I enjoyed every second with you and I look forward to what’s to come. Should I ask you to go see fireflies together next week? I’ll come to you this time. To your village, your home. You always approached me first, so this time… I’ll come to you Chris.’
…
“CHRIS!”
“CHRIS!”
Sooha looked in horror…
“CHRIS IS STILL IN THERE!!!”
“YOU CAN’T GO INSIDE! THE WHOLE CEILING COLLAPSED!”
… As she was looking at the burning house.
“I have to save Chris! He can’t run!”
She dashed towards the house
“CHRIS!! CHRIS!!! CHRIS!!!”
‘It doesn’t matter! Whatever people say, whatever they think of me, I won’t let their dumb voices lead me but the nose!!’
She gasped for air, watching it all collapse
‘I’ll… use my ability…’
“CHRIS!!!!
‘… to save you!
Seeing Chris, she lifted up a part of the roof that was on him.
“Sooha! You came to save me. No matter what people say about you, I trust you. Someone with such a kind heart as you can’t be a vampire.”
‘Chris! Until now I thought there was only misfortune in my life. But now I know all those were stepping stones to meet you. To learn to value you as a friend, to never lose a precious friend like you.
… present
“We haven’t had a new student in a while. Your name?”
“It’s Sooha.”
“Right, Sooha. Welcome to Decelis Academy.”
“In deference to our founder’s spirit, as you can see, our academy operates as a night school. Classes start at 9 pm. It might be confusing at first, but you’ll get used to it soon.”
“Okay.”
“There weren’t any rooms available in the new dormitory so, you’re been assigned to a room in the old one. It might be a bit messy since no one was using it.”
“That’s fine.”
“The school rules say, you cannot exit the campus after sunset. However, you should stay inside for your own safety regardless of the rules. There was a murder nearby recently. Rumors say it was done by a vampire. Since our school is well known for its strict entrance system, I’m sure you won’t run into any vampires within the school grounds. Still, it may be dangerous outside of school.”
A boy was walking towards her
“Oh… sorry.” He says then walks away.
…
“This will be your room, Sooha.” She points “It’s in the far corner, away from the other rooms. Sorry about that. We’ll get you a new room as soon as there’s a vacancy.
“No it’s fine. I like it here thank you.”
“All right, then settle in and get some rest.”
“Yes ma’am.”
“…”
‘Oh the room is a bit… messy. This is my room? I can’t believe it… This is great woohoo! I’m finally in my room! Phew, I hope she didn’t notice how excited I was! I’m so happy!’
‘This is the best high school in Riverfield and it’s known for their strict policies with vampires! So, I’ll never be mistaken for one! People always thought I was a vampire because of my strange ability. Thanks to that I had to move over and over again. A dirty room in the corner is no big deal! I just have to clean it up! Seriously this stupid ability has done me no good—‘
“…”
‘Well it did one good thing I guess. But now I’ll never, ever be able to see such trust in anyone’s eyes again.’
As she was lifting the bed, Creek, the door opens-
“Oh… uhm… I left my book here.” The boy said
“W-wait, hold on it’s not what you think! I know you might not believe me after seeing that! No one believes me but…”
‘Oh no I feel like I’m gonna cry!’
“I-I really am not a vampire!”
‘Ugh! I’m done for, I worked to get into this school…’
“I know you’re not a vampire I trust you.”
‘Huh?’
“Vampires can’t enter this school. Our academy is really strict about verifying that. Plus, I can tell just by how upset you look right now.”
“Thank you for believing me! I’m sure everyone feels the same but I really, really, really, don’t wanna be mistaken for a vampire. And there isn’t anyone else in this world who hates them more than I do…”
