Work Text:

They are in a classroom. A rather traditional one. It’s dark out, so it looks different, even though everything is the same as always. Or maybe it’s because they haven’t seen it in a while. The place where they first met. They’re not supposed to be here. It’s after hours and the doors are locked, but a locked door has never stopped Wei Ying. And of course, Lan Zhan follows.

They are reminiscing and marveling at the old classroom. The chairs they used to sit in, their seats right next to each other. The teacher who would scold Wei Ying all the time. The time the teacher threw a book at him. The time a fight broke out because of him. And a note in his desk. From Lan Zhan. A once in a blue moon event. Lan Zhan is looking out the window, at the old school yard, the school entrance, the flower beds, the trees, the moon high in the sky. The other is sitting in his old seat, admiring his lover in the moonlight.

“Wei Ying. You are the best thing that has ever happened to me. You were the light at the end of the tunnel. You make me so happy to the point that I get scared that maybe I’m too happy, that everything will end. We have our ups and downs. Our first fight was the worst one. But I want to be with you despite our differences. So… will you marry me?”

He turns around with a ring in hand. An engagement ring. It shines in the light streaming through the windows. His heart is in his throat. His breath has been held, unknowingly. He is overwhelmed because he wants to marry him. Because he wants to spend the rest of his life with him.

Wei Ying is a distance away, sitting in his seat, eyes wide, frozen like a statue. He lets out a breathless, “Yes.” After the first one, it seems that that’s all he can say. “Yes, Yes, Yes, a thousand times yes! I will marry you!” He gets up and runs towards him, wrapping Lan Zhan in a tight embrace. “I love you so much.”

With a sigh of relief, he reciprocates, “I love you too.”
