Chapter Text
“I can’t believe you and Hunter are going on a date date, that’s so cool!” Luz said.
Willow looked up from the floor, Amity’s fingers were twirling her hair trying to decide what hairstyle to do.
“It’s not a date date.” Willow blushed. “It’s more like just a date.”
“Nope.” Gus said not looking up from his comic. “It’s a Daaate. Capital D.”
Willow turned around and looked up at Amity.
“Is it a capital D date?” She asked. “Should I have like... picked out a new dress.” She held up her hands. “There’s dirt under my fingernails, I should have painted them, right? “
“We still have time.” Luz said.
“No.” Amity said firmly glancing her way. “Willow dousn’t have to paint her nails, and what’s she’s wearing is just fine because Hunter likes her just how she is, right?” Amity glared around the room.
“Absolutely.” Luz said.
“Everything that she said.” Gus agreed flipping to his back and staring at the 1978 Captain America comic.
Luz went to join Willow sat on the floor at the foot of Amity’s bed.
“I didn’t mean anything by it Willow. You’ve got nothing to worry about, it’s just Hunter. You know Hunter, and you know he really likes you.”
Willow looked up and smiled.
“I know. I just... I guess it never quite hit me this is my first ever date. When Hunter suggested we go out this weekend I just thought that it was us hanging out, like we always do. “
“It is like it always is.”
“Except it’s not because it’s a date.”
Luz reached down and closed her hand around Willow’s.
“It’s the same.” She said.
“Except a little more exciting.” Amity said. “Because you both know you like each other and there’s those moment of anticipation and that joy the first time you’re fingers touch, the first kiss… wait, what was that - you just blushed.”
“No, I didn’t. “Willow said looking away.
“You did, you did blush!” Luz said bouncing on her knees.
“Wait, Willow… did you and Hunter kiss?” Amity asked.
“What? No! It’s just... there may have been a little bit of finger touching.”
Gus dropped his comic finally more interested in the conversation than fifty-year-old Americana.
“Girl, tell me everything.” He said staring directly at the blushing Willow.
“WILLOW!”
They all jumped slightly at the shout from downstairs.
“Yes Dad?” Willow called back.
“Is he here?” Gus whispered. “He’s not meant to be here yet.”
“Hmm… he’s eager.” Luz said wiggling her eyebrows.
“Luz stop…” Willow started before her dad shouted again.
“Hunter is here.”
“Oh Titans.” Willow said. “We didn’t even finish my hair.”
Amity used her palms to brush down the bits of Willow’s hair that were sticking up.
“All good.”
“Willow.” Her Dad called again. “Shall I send him up?”
“Yes.” Willow called back.
They listened as heavy footsteps came up the wooden stairs.
“I will play father.” Gus said.
“I have two I really don’t need..” Willow started, interrupted by Hunter peering through the door.
“Hello.” He said stiffly looking around. “I uh… was expecting you to be alone.”
“Oh, we were just helping Willow get ready.” Luz said. “And Gus.. well Gus..”
“Is here to tell you that if you hurt our girl we will gut you.”
“Oh yes.” Amity agreed. “Then we will tie your guts around a tree.”
“A tree close to a cliff.” Luz added.
“And then we push you off that cliff.” Guys said.
“And you can watch as all your guts unravel as you fall.”
“And who knows what will actually kill you, will you drown? Will you bleed to death? Will you hit your head on the rocks?” Amity said.
“All three?” Luz added.
Hunter looked between them all with a raised eyebrow.
“So… are we not friends now?”
“Oh of course we’re friends.” Luz said wrapping her arm around his shoulders.
“Yeah, we love you dude!” Gus said.
“Pfft.. plan the guy’s complicated demise and he all of a sudden he think we’re not friends.” She flippantly waved a hand.
“Self-esteem issues.” Gus said shaking his head. “And after he landed a date with such a hottie.”
“Ignore them.” Amity said stepping forwards and gently pushing Gus and Luz aside. “Just go enjoy your da..y.. your day.”
“Okay.” Hunter said looking around. “Having friends is confusing.”
Hunter’s attention turned to Willow, she blushed, he blushed. She looked down and fiddled with her fingers, he looked down and fiddled with his hair.
“Murghthurgh.” Hunter said, at least, that’s what it sounded like.
“Uh.. what?” Willow asked.
“YOU LOOK REALLY PRETTY.” Hunter said too loud and too fast. He grimaced and looked up at her.
She glowed under his compliments. They stared at each other for a while, soft smiles starting to settle on their faces. Content to just study each other. Their friends however, found the whole thing slightly awkward to witness and after a few darting looks it was Luz who spoke first.
“So where are you two going? Market, players? Private corner of the library?”
“Why would we go to the library?” Hunter asked.
Luz wasn’t looking at him, she was looking at Amity, who was decidedly not looking at Luz, and decidedly red in the face.
“No, to any of those, I thought we’d go on a hike.” Hunter said.
“Oh nice one.” Gus said. “Very Willowesque.”
“Well, it’s not exactly a hike, it’s more a mission.”
“Oh intriguing.” Luz said.
“To find a flower.” Hunter added.
“Romantic.” Amity sighed.
“Not that I like that stuff.” She shrugged when noticing Luz’s curious look.
“What flower? Willow asked intrigued.
Hunter pulled a yellowing page out of his trousers, handing it over to Willow.
“Oh.” She said with smile. “These are very rare.”
“I know. I mean… if you don’t want to…”
“I want to.” Willow said. “I’m going to need to get changed into my boots.”
“That’s our que to leave.” Amity said hooking her arm in Hunters and pulling him out the door, Gus and Luz followed. They walked down the stairs, Amity turned to Hunter and squeezed his shoulder.
“Good luck.”
“Yeah, we’re routing for you.” Gus said.
“And if it dousn’t go well we’re still all your friends.” Luz assured him.
“Just have fun.” Amity said with a smile, she looked up the stairs as Willow appeared now wearing a long jumper, trousers and boots.
“Let’s go.” She said jogging down the stairs and grabbing hold of Hunter’s hand.
Gus, Amity and Luz gave him big grins and thumbs up.
Willows Dad stepped out a door and looked at the three teenagers In his hallway.
“So, do you just live here now?”
“We’re just leaving.” Gus said smiling.
