Work Text:
It was a quiet night, one of the calmest nights Jouno had ever witnessed, when the two were on patrol in Yokohama. It was rare, of course, for two hunting dogs to be aimlessly walking around the city at 2AM, but the regular police were too busy on different missions to take up the work.
As they were walking along a road of cobblestone, Jouno heard some noise coming from one of the buildings nearby. "It's a pub," Tecchou said when he noticed the look on his partner's face. "You wanna go in to get some rest?"
Jouno would be a fool to deny the offer. His feet were killing him, and he was incredibly bored with the lack of activity. Somehow this type of work was more exhausting than their regular life-threatening missions.
He immediately regretted his decision. The noise was so much louder now - glasses clanging against each other, middle aged men talking over one another, chairs creaking under their weight as they moved. The place reeked of alcohol and sweat, too. It seemed no one noticed them enter, or everyone was too drunk to care. He wanted to leave immediately, but Tecchou had already sat down on a stool and was waiting for him to do the same.
For once too tired to complain, Jouno took his place next to him with a frown and Tecchou ordered two beers. Jouno scrunched his face but didn't complain - maybe the beer would help the noise quiet down without getting him too drunk.
As the bartender served their drinks, they shared their usual comfortable silence. Jouno felt quite guilty for ditching work, but a couple beers helped soothe that feeling.
Tecchou, as Jouno discovered that night, was a bit of a lightweight for a man his size. The three beers he had that night made him quite delirious and had him voicing his thoughts a bit too often for Jouno's liking. Not that it was out of character for him. Jouno decided to pay the bartender and get up and leave before he had to carry Tecchou home.
He took the other's hand and walked out of the pub, where he tried to pretend that he'd never entered in the first place. They marched down the street, Tecchou's hand still in his, when he heard a walzt coming out of a dimly-lit window. He was surprised no one had filed a noise report, and he would have done it himself if Tecchou hadn't whispered in his ear, "Care for a dance?"
Jouno flushed at the request, and when he turned his head to face him, their noses bumped into each other. tecchou grinned like an idiot and jouno tried to keep himself from physically cowering under his gaze. His breath stank.
"Don't be a dumbass," he replied, withbmore agitation than he felt, "we're working."
Oh, how he longed to dance with him. Waltz was one of the music genres he deemed tolerable, which was an achievement in its own right. He was definitely horrible at dancing, and he was sure Tecchou was the same, and nothing could ever spare him of the embarrassment of being seen dancing with his most idiotic coworker. Although, he though stupidly, the combination of the waltz and Tecchou would have made the embarrassment worth it.
"Come on," Tecchou whined quietly in his ear. he was always so mindful of his hearing, and that made Jouno weak. He turned fully around to face him and grabbed his waist with one hand and he knitted their fingers together with the other, with the sort of confidence only a couple of beers can bring.
All of a sudden, Tecchou grew shy. He hesitantly put his unequipped hand on the other's shoulder and took an anxious breath. Jouno stifled a laugh - he wasn't exactly sober either, and not being able to see Tecchou's face so close to his made him less uneasy.
They started taking unsynchronised drunken steps, stepping on each other's toes, stumbling over their own feet. They giggled and laughed together, taking in each other's scent. The memory of this image would make Jouno cringe the following morning.
