Work Text:
Dazai had finally left the Port Mafia, the only place he had ever called home. He was a wanted man, on the run from the only family he had ever known. Desperate for a friend, he reached out to Fyodor, the one person he knew he could trust.
Fyodor's and Dazai's relationship was intricate, it had been years since they've last spoken. Fyodor hated Dazai, but he was intrigued by him. He was always curious about what made Dazai tick, and why he was so different from everyone else. So when he received a letter from Dazai, he was surprised but also eager to see what he had to say.
At first, the letters were simple and to the point. Dazai would talk about his travels and his new life outside of the Mafia. Fyodor would respond with brief replies, but he found himself looking forward to Dazai's weekly letters. He was surprised by how much he missed their conversations.
As the weeks went on, the letters became more personal. Dazai would talk about his fears and doubts, and Fyodor would respond with words of encouragement. He found himself caring about Dazai's well-being, even though he still hated him.
But then one day, the letters stopped coming. Fyodor was worried, he couldn't shake the feeling that something was wrong. He tried to reach out to Dazai, but he couldn't find any trace of him. He was consumed with worry and guilt, wondering if he had driven Dazai away with his cold demeanor.
Months passed, and Fyodor had given up hope of ever hearing from Dazai again. But then one day, a letter arrived in the mail. It was from Dazai, and Fyodor couldn't believe his eyes. He eagerly tore it open, relieved to hear from his friend again.
In the letter, Dazai explained what had happened. He had been caught by the Mafia and thrown into prison. But he had managed to escape, and he was now on the run again. Fyodor felt a sense of relief wash over him, he was glad that Dazai was alive.
Their letters became more frequent after that, and their bond grew stronger. Fyodor found himself looking forward to Dazai's letters, eager to hear about his adventures and his life on the run. He still hated Dazai, but he couldn't deny the sickly concern he felt for him. He knew that he would always be there for Dazai, no matter what.
In the end, their letters became a lifeline for both of them. They were two enemies, brought together by circumstance and a shared love of words. And in those letters, they found a connection that they had never known before.
