It feels inevitable, long before it actually happens.
Fleeting touches that can’t really be called casual. Looks that linger too long to be entirely innocent. Smiles that turn softer around the edges whenever they’re directed at Steve, crinkling Eddie’s eyes just so, and bringing out the dimples in his cheeks.
Their shoulders brushing and their knees knocking together whenever they share a couch. Eddie’s arm slung over Steve’s shoulders, Steve’s hand a little too high up on Eddie’s thigh. Heads bent low together, shared laughter no one else is privy to, smokey breaths mingling together as they pass a joint back and forth, sprawled in a too narrow deck chair in Steve’s backyard.
Steve’s expecting it, when Eddie kisses him.
He still runs.
