Chapter Text
It was a chill winter morning at UA. It was the beginning of February, and love was in the air, or disgust as Bakugou called it. Valentine’s Day was just around the corner, and everyone had their partner except for him. It’s not like he wanted one, anyway. These were just distractions from getting him to the number one spot on the Hero’s Chart.
“Mornin, Bakubro!” said Kirishima as he joined him in walking to class. Bakugou noticed that he was holding a pink envelope with a heart sticker on it.
“Do not tell me you’re giving that to me.” Said Bakugou. It took a moment for Kirishima to notice what Bakugou was talking about, until he remembered the envelope. He busted out laughing, while holding his stomach.
“N-No way!!” he exclaimed, with a slight blush on his face from embarrassment. “This is from Mina! She’s my Valentine this year.” He said with a toothy grin.
“Gross.” Replied Bakugou plainly. Kirishima rolled his eyes.
“C’mon, you’ve gotta have eyes on someone in this class! Or maybe it’s someone from another class? Is it Mei from Support?? I bet it is!! Or maybe it’s Camie?!” exclaimed Kirishima. Kaminari overheard the two talking and jumped in to add his two cents.
“I knew it!! I knew you had a crush!” shouted Kaminari.
“Would you two fuck off already?! I do not have eyes on anyone!”
“I have an idea of who it could be!” said Mina, who was suddenly next to the three boys. “Here’s a hint, it’s not a girl.” Said Mina, with a slight blush. Bakugou was immediately taken back. It took a moment for Kirishima and Kaminari to follow along. Once they understood, they both looked at Bakugou.
“It’s Midoriya, isn’t it?” asked Kaminari.
“D-Deku?! Yeah RIGHT.” Shouted Bakugou, with an obvious blush on his face. “Even I was trying to figure out who you were talking about, and you came up with DEKU?” he shouted. Mina was laughing her ass off, wiping tears from her eyes.
“You’ve gotta admit, it’s the only match that makes sense!” she exclaimed.
“You’ve gotta talk to him, Bakubro!!” said Kirishima.
“Hard pass.” Said Bakugou.
“You guys, look!!” shouted Uraraka. “Iida gave me a Valentine!” she exclaimed as she held up a bouquet of flowers with a small envelope attached to it.
“Oh wow!! Congrats, Uraraka! I think you two will be a great match!” said Midoriya.
“I agree, you two seem to have a great chemistry.” Added Todoroki.
“What about you two? Do you have any Valentines, yet?” she asked. Todoroki held up a small jewelry box with an envelope.
“I’m going to give this to Momo.” Said Todoroki. He had a slight blush on his face with a small smile.
“Oh my gosh! You’re finally going to do it?! I’m so proud of you!” said Uraraka. Midoriya joined in with the high praises.
“What about you, Midoriya?” asked Uraraka, directing the attention to him. Midoriya blushed deeply and sighed.
“I-I don’t think it’s my thing.” Said Midoriya. ‘Besides, I don’t think anyone here likes me in that way.” Said Midoriya. Uraraka frowned.
“Don’t say things like that! Midoriya, you are one of the sweetest people I’ve ever met! I know someone has the hots for you! Maybe Bakugou?” she teased. Midoriya turned dark red at that suggestion.
“K-Kacchan?! N-No way!!!” he shouted. “He doesn’t like me at all! Not even as friends!” he exclaimed.
“Midoriya, you look like a strawberry when you’re this red.” Said Todoroki.
“Ahh!! Don’t say that!!” shouted the greenette, holding his arms in front of his face as his friends chuckled.
It was time for class, and everyone was in their seats. Bakugou slumped down in his desk and noticed there was an envelope in front of him with his name on it. He opened it only to find that it was a Valentine from Camie, from the Support Group. Kirishima immediately noticed.
“Woah!! You got a Valentine!! I knew Camie had the hots for you!” he said. Midoriya’s ears immediately perked up when he heard that, and his heart broke.
‘Of course, who wouldn’t love Kacchan? I knew that I never had a chance, so why does this hurt so much?’ thought the greenette.
Kirishima immediately noticed how sad Midoriya looked, and changed the subject entirely. The group didn’t seem to notice, but Kirishima had to talk to Bakugou about this later on.
During class, Bakugou noticed that Midoriya wasn’t answering questions and flooding his notebook with notes and mutters like usual. He pretended to get something from his bookbag to sneak a peak at the nerd. Midoriya was just staring out into space. He was frowning and his eyes looked dim. It left a weird feeling in the blonde’s chest. Did the nerd not get any Valentines? No, he knew the greenette never cared about Valentine’s Day. He made a mental note to confront him about it later. He hated when the nerd acted like this. It reminded him of how things were in middle school. It gave him a sinking feeling in his gut.
Once class finished, Bakugou darted out of the door to look for Midoriya. Kirishima finally caught up to him. “What’s the rush, man? Class is over!” said Kirishima.
“Where’s Deku?” asked the blonde.
“Oh, probably back on his way to the dorms. That’s actually what I wanted to talk to you about.” Said Kirishima.
“So you know why he looked sad?” he asked. Kirishima was a bit taken back, he didn’t know that Bakugou noticed that as well.
“I…I think so. He didn’t look like that until he overheard us talking about your Valentine from Camie.” He said. It took a moment for Bakugou to process what the redhead just said.
“God dammit, Shitty Hair. Be realistic.” He said.
“I am being realistic! He looked really shocked when I said that it was from Cammie, and that’s when I noticed he was upset. I really think he may like you.” He said. Bakugou didn’t want to believe it. “I mean, I know you say you don’t like him, but how would you feel if someone actually gave him a Valentine?” asked Kirishima. Bakugou felt his heart skip a beat. The very thought of the nerd being in love with someone made his blood boil, and he didn’t know why.
“Come back when you’re done muttering bullshit.” Said Bakugou quickly. Kirishima just shrugged it off.
“He’ll find out eventually.” He said to himself.
Bakugou was on his way up to Midoriya’s dorm door. He knocked on it, but there was no answer.
“Deku? I know you’re in there, you nerd! Open up.” Said Bakugou. He heard some shuffling and heard the doorknob turn. Bakugou wore a smirk on his face, knowing the nerd wouldn’t hide anything from him. The smirk fell quickly when he saw the Midoriya’s big red and puffy eyes.
“H-Hi Kacchan.” Said Midoriya, trying his best to fake a smile.
“What’s wrong?” he asked, noticeably concerned. Midoriya blushed.
“N-Nothing, just a rough day.” Said Midoriya. “It’s nothing, I promise.” He added. Bakugou took a moment to study his face. He was lying.
“Tell me the truth.” He said. “You know you can tell me anything, nerd.” He added. Midorya’s smile dropped. His eyes welled up with tears.
“It’s really hard to talk about it right now. It kind of…just happened.” He said. Bakugou’s eyes widened.
“Did…I do something?” he asked. Midoriya immediately shook his head.
“No! No way. It wasn’t anything you did.” He said. Bakugou still felt uneasy. He had a big feeling that he had something to do with this.
“Fine.” Said the blonde. He began to walk away, but then Midoriya grabbed his arm.
“Please don’t be mad at me. I’m just not ready to talk about it, yet.” Said the greenette, orbs of tears threatening to fall from his eyes.
Bakugou felt something in his chest. Guilt? He didn’t know. He was confused to why he had the biggest urge to pull the nerd into a hug.
“Okay, Deku.” He said, reassuring him that he wasn’t upset. Midoriya nodded in return and let go of his arm. Bakugou walked to his dorm and closed the door behind him.
‘What the fuck was that?’
