Summary
There was a new distance between them for the final weeks leading up to graduation, and when Deku got on a flight just three days after leaving UA, it became geographic distance too. Katsuki wore his anger at Izuku like armor for years, burying the hurt of being left behind beneath a layer of bitterness. The petty grudge that he’d used to distract himself from the Deku-shaped hole in his life was fairly flimsy to begin with, but it was crumbling under the crushing weight of almost losing him for good.

After Izuku gets injured during a villain attack, Katsuki puts aside their differences and catches the first flight to the USA to make sure he’s okay.

Most twenty-six year olds probably couldn’t predict the weather based on the pain in their joints due to changes in barometric pressure, but Izuku’s heroic exploits as a teen before he’d gotten a handle on One For All led to an abundance of broken bones, scar tissue, and nerve damage that most twenty-six year olds probably also didn’t have. Or: Izuku has chronic pain, and Katsuki is there for him.

Izuku smiled as he recalled the stunned look on Katsuki’s face when the announcer told everyone that Deku was Japan’s number one hero. The party afterward had been filled with blurry friendly faces and boisterous congratulations.

Katsuki goes home with a twist in his chest after Izuku rejects him, his heart littered with dreams that hang like wishing stars in the sky. Contrary to his peers' nagging and what the ranking charts say, he never stopped chasing after what he wanted. So tonight too, he'll gather the remnants in the wreckage of his heart, sleep the shitty day off, and be grateful for what everyone else doesn't see. Unless the universe has other plans for him after all.

The first month had been tense as fuck. First of all, he and Deku weren't exactly on good terms. At all. They'd been in more detentions because of each other than any other student in Hogwarts' history.
Aizawa had made sure to let them know when they'd reached that major landmark.
They were, at their core, antagonistic rivals. They fought about everything constantly, but since they were the top of their class, they were often the only people who could keep up with each other. That didn't make them like each other any more, though.

Shouto blinks, processing the question. He sounds skeptical when he asks, “You sure you want to spend that much time with me? You used to say being around me makes you lose brain cells.”
Katsuki snorts. “And being around me that much might make you more of an asshole. I’m a major dick, sometimes.”
Shouto huffs a small laugh, and then he smiles. Quiet falls into the night, and Katsuki almost thinks Shouto thought he was joking. But after several minutes, he speaks again.
“Sure, Major Dick,” Shouto says, “Let’s be roommates.”
