Brought a Kiss to a Knife Fight (The Knife, Pt. 2)

Summary:

Marinette and Jason are rival mob bosses.
They meet again in Gotham under surprising circumstances and stuff goes down.

Notes:

While I was making bread, I suddenly wanted to write a fight scene that ends up in kissing, and so once it was in the oven I headed over here.
Enjoy!

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

The door burst open, followed by Red Hood in a cloud of dust. Lady Bug landed in a guarding stance, covering his body with her own. “Why are you here, you bloody idiot?”

Hood bucked his hips and swept her arms out from under her with his own, rolling and pinning her under him. “Why are you here, is the better question.”

With a huff of air, Lady Bug unseated him and rolled into a crouch. “I’m here to meet a partner. Do you not see the symbols marking this spot as neutral, under the Bat’s protection, or are you just that stupid?”

“I’m actually quite brilliant, thank you.” Hood stood and unsheathed a dagger slowly.

“Oh, did your mom tell you that?” Lady Bug mocked, drawing her own daggers.

“She did, actually, when she read off my IQ results. And not that it’s any of your business– but since I’m feeling nice today, I’ll tell you– I’m meeting someone for the Bats today, so I’m not ignoring the symbols at all. I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be, unlike you , Little Bug.”

“Don’t call me that. How is this –” Lady Bug trapped his dagger between her two and slid it back, sparks striking on the metal, “--being nice? You’re literally trying to stab me,” she panted, aiming her dagger for his side.

He deflected, of course, and pushed her further into the meeting house and down the hallway. “You started it, Bug. I was minding my own business, when someone, who missed me so much she followed me two continents over, ambushed me and started yelling like I was some ex-lover who’d jilted her.”

She gaped at him, twisting to avoid his blade. “I followed you? I was actively trying to avoid you when I came here! You’re the one who said you had unfinished business with your father and left!”

“Oh, you missed me, Bug? Well, how could you not; I’m a catch.” He shrugged, withdrawing another blade and tossing it at her shoulder, pinning her leather suit to the wall.

She glared at him, cutting the arm off her suit and wiggling free. “Low blow going for the suit, Hoodsome.”

“Whatever works. I never claimed to be above board.”

Another flying kick sent him two steps back toward the wall. Quick blows and parries highlighted with glints of silver shone in the dim hallway.

Lady Bug prevailed and held her dagger to his throat.

He slowly reached up and removed his helmet, holding her gaze steadily. The helmet dropped with a dull thud to the floor as he wrapped his hands around her face, their lips meeting hungrily.

They kissed with the same intensity as they fought, wild and honestly.

Lady Bug wrapped her legs around his hips as he pinned her to the wall, her hands constantly moving to touch some part of him.

Finally, they pulled apart a fraction to breathe, their heavy panting the only sounds in the still house.

Her lips were red and glistening, and he had to focus to understand what she was saying.

“Were you going to come back?”

“No. I knew you weren’t going to stay there, so I was going to track you down. Can’t be caught slacking, not knowing where my rival is located at all times,” he grinned.

She ran her fingers gently through his hair. “Why are you here, Jason?”

“This is my dad’s city. I had a job to finish here before I hunted you down. Why are you here, in a Bat meeting place?”

“I came as a liaison, hoping to broker the beginnings of a deal between your father’s clan and mine.”

“I think something can be arranged, then, Bug. You’re quite convincing.”

Setting aside less pressing matters, they returned to more pressing matters at hand.

“So, how much of the city have you seen, Bug?”

“Not a ton, why?”

“Want a first-hand view with a native tour guide?”

“How long is this tour gonna take?”

“Hm…it’s quite the lengthy experience. There are some great local spots you gotta see, like Li’s Chinese place, my bedroom, my kitchen, my bathroom, my gym…”

Lady Bug laughed. “Those sound like fabulous places. I hope they’ll live up to the 5-star rating I’ve heard some people give them. Shall we go check them out?”

“I was hoping you’d ask.”

Still holding her in his arms, he carried her out to their bikes.

“Stay close to me in case someone recognizes you as new, ‘kay?” he turned to her, fitting his helmet back over his head.

She nodded and put her own helmet on, saluting teasingly. “Stuck like glue.” She revved and pulled out after him, staying right beside or behind him the entire trip.
