Chapter Text
Anna hugged her sister for what it looked to be the tenth time since they reunited a few minutes ago. Of course Elsa didn't mind one bit, she would hug back just as happy.
"Anna, Elsa." It was Yelana. "I'm so happy that both of you are alright. We really can't thank you enough for saving us all."
"You don't have to thank us. It had to be done. All of you - Northuldra and Arendellians - suffered long enough, trapped in that mist. I'm glad we can finally live in peace."
The older monarch spoke. Anna still beside her, almost leaning into her.
Yelena and Honeymaren noded, before the older woman spoke again.
"Still, I would like to say that you are more than welcome to stay here in the forest, Elsa."
Anna's smile was replaced with a worried expression and her heart beating faster in her chest. She looked up at Elsa, who was looking foward at the other women.
Elsa took Anna's hand blindly. "It's really kind of you to offer. But, my place is still in Arendelle like it always has been and always will be." This made Anna's smiled come back faster than before. The oldest woman accepted her answer with a smile and a nod, while the brunette had a smile that didn't quite reached her eyes.
"Well, I think it's time we go back home. What to you think, Anna?" They looked at each other and Anna was about to answer when a male voice interrupted.
"Umm..Actually, there's still something I'd like to do." Kristoff said caughting everyone's attention.
"Anna." He was reaching for his back pocket, starting to kneel, and sensing what was to come, Anna spoke:
"Actually, Kristoff, could it wait until we got back to the castle? I'm tired and I really want to go home." She asked, somewhat uncomfortable.
Kristoff was shocked, still in that awkward position. Once he recovered, he stood up, swallowed and agreed with a nod.
"Thank you, Kristoff." "Also, I'm riding back with Elsa. See you tomorrow."
"Yeah..." He answered lowly.
"Let's go, Elsa." Anna walked arm-in-arm with her sister towards Nokk, who was waiting patiently a few steps behind.
Anna never looked back once.
Now they were on their way back to Arendelle, Anna sitting in front of Elsa with the blonde's chest pressed against her back, left arm wrapped around her so she wouldn't fall and her right hand holding onto the icy reins; Anna leaned back resting her head on Elsa's right shoulder, enjoying the embrace.
Elsa kissed her temple before asking: "Comfy?"
Anna giggled. "Yeah, I am." "Though I would be lying if I said by butt isn't kind of cold right now."
"Ah. I'm sorry. I can only make cold ice, so I'm afraid I can't help you there, sis." Elsa teased.
A dramatic gasp from Anna. "Just cold? Owww." Was the mocking response.
"Very funny." Elsa deadpanned even though she could feel her lips twitching upward.
They spent a few more moments in silence, Anna happy, with her eyes closed enjoying their proximity and Elsa with something on her mind.
"Hey, Anna?"
"Yeah, Elsa?" She answered, eyes still closed.
"Was it okay to leave Kristoff like that? What if what he wanted to say was important?" She asked glancing down at Anna's head.
Anna's eyes fluttered open followed by a sigh. "If what he wanted to say, is what I'm thinking about...then, I already know what it is."
"Do you want to talk about it?" Elsa offered.
Anna answered after a pause. "He was about to propose."
Elsa's eyes went wide. "To propose? But, isn't that good?"
Anna scoffed. "Yeah, that's what I thought too." "Until he started to come less and less to the castle." "In our last argument - which was a few days before we went to the Enchanted Forest - he said he wasn't happy in the castle." "He said he didn't feel comfortable, that he won't be the prince I wanted him to be."
"I tried to have a nice conversation with him, I never asked for him to change. But he just won't listen."
"I was getting angry, if he really wasn't happy, why wait all these years to tell me? He said he was sick of my behaviour. That I only seem to have time for you...that I only paid attention to you when the three of us were together." "I guess, proposing to me was his way of trying to make it up to me, to save our relationship."
"He also said that..that you and I looked more like a couple than sisters..." She trailed feeling her face grow warm.
Elsa blinked. "Really?" The blonde asked surprised, looking ahead and seeing Arendelle in the distance.
Anna turned her head so she could see Elsa's face. "Elsa?"
The blonde looked at her with a small smile making her blush before looking ahead again.
"We're almost home. We'll talk more when we get there." The blonde said and Anna agreed.
After entering the castle and greeting their staff, they asked one of the servants to draw them a bath in the bathroom of Elsa's room.
Now in the bathroom, both were inside the bathtub, facing each other. Elsa a little more relaxed with her head resting on the edge of the bathtub and arms crossed; Anna sitting with her arms around her knees, looking at Elsa. Since when is Elsa this...relaxed? She's usually the most shy between us. But I guess it's a good thing, she smiled at the thought.
Then letting her eyes wander down a pale neck. Her skin looks so soft...I wonder what'd be like to kiss- feeling her cheeks getting warmer at the sudden thought.
Anna swallowed, looking up her sister's neck again, further up to her chin. What she wasn't counting on, however, was Elsa already looking at her with a smirk when she locked eyes with her. This made her blush and snap her eyes down to the water.
The readhead heard Elsa chuckle. "Are you alright, Anna?"
"Yeah. Why do you ask?
Elsa raised her head from the bathtub edge . "Well I know the water is warm but, for your face to be so red like that. " Elsa's brows raised in amusement, "I felt somewhat worried." She explained.
"I'm fine. No need for you to worry."
"Unless," Elsa closed her eyes once more, enjoying the water temperature. "You were thinking about something...inappropriate." Elsa teased with a satisfied smile.
Seconds passed, Anna was oddly quiet.
When she opened her eyes, she only had time to raise her arms before Anna splashed water at her, with a smirk.
But the blonde wouldn't let her win so easily, so with a flick of her wrist she made a gentle breeze blow around Anna.
The moment the younger girl felt cold, she stop splashing water, wrapping her arms around herself, sneezing right after.
"You cheater!" That was as much as she managed to say before she was splashed right in the face.
Once she cleaned the water from her eyes she saw the smug look on Elsa's face and was ready to splash her again when Elsa warned her (even though it felt more like a threat).
"Ah-ah-ah. Throw water at me again, and I'm freezing the bathtub instead."
Anna's fingers twitched. "You wouldn't..." She dared.
Elsa raised a brow. "Wanna bet?"
Anna narrowed her eyes. And after a few seconds she admited defeat.
"Fiiine. You're no fun." Elsa only stuck out her tongue at her.
After another quiet moment, it was time for them to get out of the bathtub.
Putting both of her hands on each side of the bathtub, Elsa pulled herself up, now standing. Anna on her hand, was trying her best not to look her way.
Now out of the bath, dressed in her white robe, Elsa called Anna, holding her sister's robe for her. "C'mon. We've been in here for a while."
"The water is getting colder for you, I don't want you getting sick." The readhead looked at her and the robe, and with a blush decorating her cheeks, she stood up, getting out of the bathtub and slipping her robe, tying it after. "Thanks." She said as she turned around, facing her sister.
Elsa took her by the hand, intertwining their fingers, leading them out of the bathroom to Elsa's bedroom where the fireplace was already lit, creating a warm, cozy environment.
Getting closer to the bed, Anna noticed the two night clothes (blue and green) folded neatly near the edge.
"I asked Gerda to bring these, earlier." Elsa answered before Anna needed to ask.
"Then, how come I didn't hear it?"
"That was probably because you were staring at me, lost in your own little world." Elsa teased.
"I was?" Anna was embarassed to know Elsa noticed her staring. She sighed.
"Definitely. But don't worry, I don't mind." Elsa reassured with a shrug, then pulling a still damp lock of hair behind Anna's ear.
Anna was almost taken aback at Elsa looking at her with so much fondness, it could make her cry.
The readhead hugged her sister tight and it was not a second after that she felt Elsa wrap her arms around her reciprocating the hug.
When they pulled apart, both were smiling.
"I think it's time we get dressed now. Our food must be getting here in a bit."
"Yeah." Anna agreed. Glancing down at their clothes once again, she only noticed now, there were panties matching on top of them.
Looking at Elsa's, she burst out laughing, seeing the single snowflake, making the older girl look at her curiously. "What are you laughing about?"
Calming down from her laughing fit, Anna cleaned the tears in her eyes with a finger before answering: "I can't believe you actually have a snowflake in your underwear."
Now is was Elsa's turn to blush. "I didn't make them! This is the only one I have with it." She was beyond embarassed. "It was Gerda, she gave me as a birthday gift last year!"
Anna giggled. "Whatever you say, sis." "You're face is so red, right now. Serves you right after teasing me today." Anna smirked.
"Fine, fine, I'm sorry about that. Can we just get dressed already?" She almost pleaded.
The readhead chuckled. "Yeah, yeah."
Elsa was buttoning her last button when there was a knock on the door, followed by a feminine voice: "Your Majesty, Your Highness, I brought your dinner."
After taking a quick glance at her sister, Queen Elsa answered: "Come on in."
Dinner was delicious. Anna hasn't said much the whole dinner and she suspected it could be because her sister was tired.
The readhead was the first to speak. "These last few days were crazy. I'm happy we're finally home." Anna turned around in the direction of the bed.
"Elsa? Aren't you coming to bed?"
Elsa looked at Anna. "Ah, yes." The blonde lay down beside her sister.
Now inside the covers, Elsa moved closer, kissing Anna in the forehead. "I love you."
Anna has heard this words countless of times. But, there was something different in the way Elsa said it now. She just couldn't figure out what.
Now staring straight into each other's eyes Elsa spoke: " Our adventure is over. We can relax now."
The readhead answered in a whisper: "You're right that we can relax. But only until tomorrow comes."
"What is happening tomorrow?"
"Well, you dear Elsa, are going back to sign those documents you love so much." Elsa chuckled.
"And what about you, dear Anna?"
A pause. And then in a more firm voice:
"I'm breaking up with Kristoff."
