Her Audience is God

Summary:

She was one in a million, a rare sighting that they all wanted to make bleed.

It would honor him to step in the deep shoes of a mother, of a father.

There was something special about this little girl.

Notes:

There NEEDS to be more wholesome works of these two and I will stand up to the plate for it

Chapter Text

Raindrops roll down the tinted window, picking a big droplet as her bet for the race down to the bottom or when it breaks into smaller drops. Focusing her vision more on her own reflection staring back at her. She saw a crying little girl with her own tears falling quickly down her cheeks and landing on the front of her shirt, with her pink and blotchy face staring back at her. She did not react when the tall figure passed by her window nor when the trunk of the car opened and luggage shoved inside before the slam.

Looking past herself and past the rain she seen her small apartment complex they were parked in front of, not a single light was on in any of the windows. She thought about her room sitting in the dark, her toys and her bed she was outgrowing waiting for her return that will not come. Her face flexes into a deep frown at the flashing images of her parents. Lay crying over her mother's cooling body before a woman in a red dress had found her.

Remembering how she bent down to her level and told her someone she knew was waiting for her, walking out hand in hand with her to the Racoon Police Station car garage where he was waiting for her, she noticed something pass between their hands when she hugged him. Not that it really matters now, after they drove fast and reckless here, a final stop he told her.

"Sherry?" His voice was close, blinking suddenly and looking straight she seen he was back in the driver's seat, twisted around to meet her gaze. Rubbing her tears away with the heel of her hands, a full body shiver going through her. She was cold, her feet felt wet in her shoes but she was here, safe he kept telling her.

"We're running out of time, dear. No matter what, promise me you'll stay close?"

She did not know where they were going, how much time they had, but he kept saying they were running out of it. Nodding quickly he turned back and started to drive. Driving through the abandoned carnage, bright street lamps zoom across her hands from the reflections of the window until it was just long stretches of roads. They were the only ones down the spine as trees went by in a blur. There was no moon but rather the deep green and yellow of the sun peeking over the horizon to rise.

She did not know how he could do it when driving so reckless, how he was able to turn into the airport and park. But she knew this was it, she unfastened her seat belt and pushed the car door open to finally stand. He had their two bags in either hand, with the small plane behind him ready and waiting for their arrival.

"Come now, hold onto my arm."

Sherry was quiet, reaching for his arm to grip his sleeve as he walked quickly with her nearly running to the plane stairs to climb. Once stepping in she followed him all the way to the back. Only letting go when he put their bags up in the storage over their heads.

Looking back down at her, his hand reached for her hand gently, guiding her to sit closest to the window with him sitting down next to her. While there was nothing to look at right now other than the landing strip, she took this moment to look over at him with her reflection in his glasses.

"Uncle Wesker, where are we going?" Her voice was small and shy. As he took the moment to think, reach up and pull his glasses off to show her he was looking at her.

She gasped silently at his eyes, they were bright like fire and she could not tear her ocean blue eyes away from him.

"Somewhere safe, away from anything that wants to hurt you."

While Sherry would have preferred the name of the location, she supposes that was satisfying enough. As they began to take off, her arms wrapped around his tightly, unable to keep herself together anymore. Not that she had much left to keep tied up.

"I miss mommy and I miss daddy." She sniffles deeply, choking on her breaths as tears prick her eyes before blinking and they fall down once again. She misses Claire and all of her past, her fingers gripping onto his coat tightly.

Wesker reaches over to her and wipes the falling tears away from her face. "I miss them too, I miss them greatly."

He lets out a shaky breath, keeping himself composed for her sake but it hurts him just as much. His best friend turned monster, he knew it was bound to happen, but he should have pulled him out before this. Now he is to mourn in silence with his head straight and eyes closed with their little girl crying on his arm, at least he was able to get to her before that too was taken from him.

Sherry cried nearly the whole time before her sobs got softer and her breathing more even, with Wesker never moving, only to peel an eye open to glance around them, seeing through the window the bright day and glistening ocean. They needed distance and Wesker had thought Europe would be a step towards their new and growing lives. Knowing she had almost fallen asleep when the plane had landed. Making herself sit up and rub her tired eyes, knowing how exhausted she must be yet unable to fully fall into the open hands of sleep, their images freshly haunt her mind.

"We are here, but we have to get away from here very fast. You do not let go of my hand no matter what, alright?" As he stood up, grabbing their luggage and testing the weight of them both before giving her the lighter one once she stood up and got in the aisle. Nodding up at him as she took the case on one hand and his hand in her other.

And did they walk fast, through a sea of people completely unaware. It might be breaking dawn over Racoon City as they get to their gate. Sherry holds his hand as tight as she could, unknowing of the urgency in his step before meeting their ride out of the airport. Never a word from the driver as she and Wesker crawl into the backseat.

Sherry looks through the window, trying to read the signs or understand the radio but to her it all looked like jumbled English. Glancing back at the driver when he spoke and it left her speechless, not understanding anything yet Wesker said something back to him and she guessed it was good enough to keep the rest of the ride silent. She tried whispering a question to him, but he placed his finger over his lips to tell her not now. She didn't press him any further, only when they stopped and got out of the car hand in hand did she try asking again.

"What do all these signs say?"

Going up and up flights of stairs, before reaching the floor and going down the long corridor. "They're French, there are some similarities to English you'll find." Unlocking the door and going in with her, looking around she had to wonder how long he had a house here.

Wesker pulled their luggage up on the sofa and began opening them both, digging around to find all the pieces of her clothes he had stuffed in both cases, all while she was as quiet as a mouse, looking at the books he had and what was outside the curtains.

"Sherry? Come here, dear. We need to talk." As he got everything that was hers in one bag before zipping it back up.

Sherry went back to Wesker, sitting down in one of the chairs and him sitting across from her. She watched as he pulled his glasses from his face to rub his eyes and his nose. Opting to keep his head propped up with his open hand, elbow on the arm of the chair.

"A lot is going to be changing," he stated first. "We are safe here, and will be for a while but the coming months are going to be hard on the both of us. There really isn't anything we can do but stay in this house, but it will not be boring."

Sherry slowly nodded at his statements, it was not like she could do anything on her own anyways. He was her guardian now, glancing down at her shoes, swinging her legs lazily back and forth. Only to look back up when he spoke again.

"Go have a shower, all your clothes are in that bag and …" pointing behind him to a small corridor with a few doors, "The door on the right is the spare bedroom, it's all yours."

Standing up to get her luggage, she gave him another look, "Thank you, Uncle Wesker." The corners of her mouth pulling up for just a moment at his smile back to her, how the corners of his eyes wrinkle and his smile lines deepen. And she left to put away her things, grabbing new clothes to change into after a very needed shower.
