Kaveh would sometimes wonder, how did he fall in-love with such a man.
Well, it was because of those days they spent time together in their house.
He knew that Alhaitham would never love him back, so he would keep it a secret from him, and everybody.
One day, Kaveh felt sick and had the urge to vomit, when he went to the restroom and vomited, he spat out petals. As a result, he contacted one of his friends, Tighnari.
“Tighnari, please help me. I’ve been coughing out petals lately and I’m wondering what’s wrong with me.”
“You’ve been coughing up petals?…” Tighnari was clearly shocked.
“Yes, I have?…” Kaveh responded confused.
“You have a condition called Hanahaki It’s a condition which the patient coughs up flower petals when they suffer from one-sided love, and it only is cured when the beloved returns their feelings, or the patient dies.”
“Is there any other way to cure it?…” Kaveh asked scared for his life as he knew, Alhaitham would never return the feeling back.
“Well, It can also be cured through surgery, however… the patient’s romantic feelings for that person will disappear as well. If you want to go through the surgery, just talk to me about it. I’ll prepare the needed materials.” Tighnari was being concerned about his friend.
“Alright…” Kaveh said back saddened by the fact he’ll have to lose his feelings for him, but he wondered, how did he even fall in-love in the first place?
It’s been a week since Kaveh was diagnosed with Hanahaki disease. He’s lately been coughing out petals and felt as if he was dying, ever so slowly. He decided that he’ll tell Alhaitham about his feelings and get surgery right after, but Alhaitham has been very busy. He would never spend time with Kaveh anymore, and when Kaveh was going to confront him he would always tell him he was busy and should wait for another time.
It kept going like this for a month until one day.
“Alhaitham, I really need to speak with you.” Kaveh looked like a mess. He looked malnourished and sick.
“Kaveh, I told you, I’m busy. I’m sorry but I’ll talk with you another time, okay?” Alhaitham answered back as if he did not care about him anymore.
“Alright then…” Kaveh was more miserable now that he was before. Always being shut down by Alhaitham, and now he was coughing more often.
Tighnari always asked him every week in that month. “When are you going to get the surgery? It’s been so long already. Kaveh, if you keep going like this, you’ll die soon.”
“Don’t worry,” Kaveh replied to not make Tighnari worried “I’m pretty sure I’ll have the right chance to tell him soon.
He never did. It’s already had been 2 weeks
Alhaitham went out for a business trip and was supposedly gone for 2 weeks and was coming back.
Kaveh waited for him, to tell him how he felt. He would lay in his bed everyday since he eventually became too weak to stand up because of the disease. He knew Alhaitham was coming back today, so he just waited. Even if there was blood mixed with petals, he just waited for him to arrive.
But…
Alhaitham didn’t make it in time.
When he arrived, he saw Kaveh.
Dead.
He saw petals mixed with blood.
“Kaveh?!” Alhaitham was worried.
“This isn’t funny. Please… wake up…” He had started sobbing, crying.
“I’m so sorry for shutting you out all those days… If only I knew…” It seemed like his sobs and cries filled the entire room.
“I love you…”
