“You? Voluntarily leaving work? Who would’ve thought,” Felix says, and then curls her fingers into the hem of her hoodie and finds a smudge in the white painting of the wall to stare at. “Are we gonna talk about it?”
“What’s there to talk about,” Chan mumbles, finding a split end in her curls that’s suddenly the most interesting thing in the room. “It’s a natural thing to do, y’know, like, I’m not gonna shame you for it or anything. We can just pretend I didn’t see anything.”
Felix’s pulse thumps in her ears. It feels like her stomach’s going to fall out of her body when she makes her mind up about what she’s going to say. “But you heard something."
Sometimes the only thing that makes a hard day better is a hot shower and a little fun. Sometimes getting caught is inevitable.
