Adventure of Motherhood

Summary:

Sara, Ava and their new daughter Lori start this new adventure.

Work Text:

Ava was double-checking to ensure that the diaper bag was fully packed.

She had over twenty clean diapers, two full unopened packs of wipes, five new outfits, three cans of formula, a portable bottle cleaner and a sanitiser, four bottles with 8 nipples and a bunch of mind-stimulating toys.

“Sara, do you have the backup blankets?” Ava called out finding the items missing from the bag.

“No.” Sara called back from her spot on the living room floor where she was playing with the 14-month-old. “I also think it's ridiculous that you have the kind of bag people take when backpacking through Europe, as a diaper bag.”

“I am not going to argue with you again over this. Everything in here is necessary.” Ava firmly stated. “After you put her in the car seat can you please get the blankets?”

“Sure. Let’s get ready to go on a ten-minute drive to Granpa’s where he has his own set of everything you need yet Mommy still packed because she’s anal retentive.”

“If those are her first words you are in big trouble.”

“Oh no, wouldn’t want you to have to punish me.”

“No, we don’t have time for that. Tonight we can have grown-up fun.”

“It’s cute you think we’ll have the energy for it. We used to stay up all night, now we get tired at nine-thirty.” Sara strapped Lori into the infant carrier before heading to the hall closet to pack the 4 back-up blankets.

“How are you staying up til nine-thirty?”

One of the things that Sara took for granted about her time with the Legends was the fact that with the time currier, she never needed to travel

When they finally got out of the time prison and were back to their present times, Ava noticed that they needed a few things.

First were jobs since they now had to have some form of income to keep their apartment.

Government jobs were easy to come by apparently if you had previously been given a classified job by the white house like say Director of a secret bureau. Ava didn’t mind going back to a desk job since nothing could be as difficult as basically raising the Legends. Plus it meant all the good benefits and work-life balance needed since they had a baby now.

Thanks to her previous status of being dead on top of the lack of any post-education and only years of bartending for experience Sara was dreading returning to the mind-numbing landscape of Sinks and Showers and Stuff.

Ava suggested another option, she asked if Sara would be fine being a stay-at-home mom, for a couple of years at least.

Then came the challenge of buying a vehicle since this would now be their best method of travel.

Sara was staring at the minivans and tried to make herself accept her fate.

Of course, she couldn’t use a motorcycle, they didn’t have a spot for car seats and most ‘cool’ cars didn’t have backseats. So she decided to try and just accept the boring beige cars that were in every school parking lot.

“Okay let’s get a Ford Focus I guess.” Sara grumbled looking at the website of the best rated family cars that Ava sent her.

“We don’t have to get one if you don’t like it. We don’t need to get some car you hate. I’m sure there is one that is safe and family rated but still has an edge.” Ava knew that retirement was hard for Sara, even before the baby stuff it was hard for her to go from actively trying to make the world better to well, someone with no greater purpose even though raising Lori was the start of the greatest adventure of their lives, being at home alone with a baby for hours on end tended to make you miss saving the world.

“How about the Nissan Kick?” Ava suggested seeing a picture of it on the screen.

“The one that looks like an SUV fucked a Smart Car?”

“So no?”

“That one has a spoiler, I like that.”

“Subaru WRX, okay that picture is from 2019, let’s see what the new one is like.”

“No spoiler, but I like the rest of it.”

“I’m sure we can add a spoiler.” Ava reassured her. She went to the car company site and started to build their car.

“What’s our budget again?”

“Whatever you want, you can have. We’ll be fine.”

“Ava, what are the numbers we’re working on?”

“My job is around 150k a year, but we have a lot of savings thanks to you and Mick going back and making bets on every major sporting event. So you design the car however you want. We will most likely be able to pay for it outright in cash. We’ll be fine.”

Since Sara got out of time jail before Ava, she went back to Star City since that is where Quentin was and he made it clear he would do all he could to help. A week after Lori was born and Ava was released thanks to some illegal but moral scheme hatched by Sara and implemented by Barry; Sara and Ava moved back to their DC apartment. But once Lori was old enough to a point where she was easy to entertain and keep her content Ava and Sara decided to take her to Star City.

Lori did not like flying at all. So the next time they tried the 2 day train ride which went much better.

Dinah was the first one to offer to move to DC to be close to Sara and Lori.

Quentin not wanting to miss out on time with his granddaughter, was quick to do the same.

Lori was in her high chair in her grandfather’s kitchen. Sara and Ava were asleep on the couch in the living room while Quentin cleaned up the meal as he talked with his granddaughter. He still didn’t fully get how they were able to have a kid that was both of theirs genetically speaking but that didn’t matter.

He was enjoying being a grandfather.

It made him see everything differently.

Sure Lori’s moms didn’t want her having sugar or junk food but he was the grandfather and he got to overrule them. Plus they were asleep in the other room.

So he dished up a bowl of ice cream covered in sprinkles and chocolate fudge. This was after she had plenty of cookies and other sweets.

“I hope you are every bit the hell raiser your Mama was because she deserves to have all the grey hair she gave me.” Quentin smiled.

Back in the living room Sara shuddered in her sleep as if a curse was just placed upon her.
