She's Wearing Green

Summary:

Sebastian Sallow has been secretly dating a gryffindor but calls it off before the Yule ball as rumours start to fly. Her response is to make a bold statement at the ball.

Note: I haven't played Hogwarts Legacy but Sebastian is all over my FYP and therefore stuck in my brain! Dunno if any of the house politics are the same as they are in Harry Potter but live, laugh, love my friends

2nd note: I hate fanfics where the character is called 'MC' throughout so I gave her a random name! nothin kicks be out of a fandom daydream like reading "I love you MC"

Work Text:

Sebastian took a sip from his glass and sighed. Ominis stood beside him, moving his head gently from side to side, from a distance you'd thing he was scannong the room like any other party goer, but Sebastian knew he was listening. He sighed again.

"For heaven's sake Sebastian" he mumbled

"I'm sorry, I just, I just really don't want to be here tonight"

"Hmm well you need to be"

"I know it's a requirement otherwise I wouldn't be here. I'll be staying long enough that some teachers see me then I don't know how I'll be sneaking back to the dorm"

"Well maybe" Ominis smiled before taking a sip of his own drink, Sebastian looked at him quizzically.

Ominis' grey cloudy eyes had a hint of mischief. Sebastian turned to the table behind him putting his drink down and turning away from the party.

"What are you up too?" He said suspiciously.

Ominus turned, looked right at Sebastian in a way that felt like he was looking right through him and winked.

"Hold on-" Sebastian started but a sudden hush around him caught his attention. He turned back to the crowd of people gathered at the bottom of the great stair case, where he and Ominid had found a drinks table and been avoiding the main party. There were groups of friends and couples, some avoiding the dance floor and others waiting for friends. But all of them had fallen quiet as Sebastian followed there eye line to the top of the stairs.

Sebastian was glad he'd already placed his drink down for he surely would have dropped it to the floor at what he saw.

Amelia was making her way slowly down the staircase. Her long flowing red hair adorned with golden crystals with a golden circlet on her head, golden necklace and gold bands at her wrist, she looked made her look like a warrior Queen come to do battle. Gryffindor gold. Her eyes found Sebastian in the crowd and she smiled confidently.

"What is she doing?" Sebastian whispered breathless.

"She's here then?" Ominis sounded amused from beside him. Sebastians eyes flicked to him in annoyance and then back to Amelia.

" You don't understand, Ominis. She's wearing green, Slytherin green"

The dress was a dark rich green: a sleek corset with a long and flowing skirt that spilled out on the steps behind her. Fabric was gathered and draped from her chest around her arms. Sebastian could hardly tear his eyes od the exposed skin of her shoulders and chest.

"Hmmm" Ominus mused. "Quite a statement I'd say"

Sebastian was frozen, he'd known that coming to the Yule ball together would have been a statement for the whole school to see. Everyone would know, everyone would talk, everyone would judge. That's why he hadn't asked her, he could handle it, he didn't care what people said about him but it wasn't fair on her. He'd already heard some whispers about her that had riled him up so much he'd found himself in detention.

Ominis reached out and pushed Sebastian towards her, spurred into motion Sebastian crossed this distance between where he'd been standing and the bottom of the staircase.

She stopped when she reached the bottom step. He stood right up to her, there was inches between them and she looked him dead in the eye, the last step giving her a height advantage he wasn't used to.

"Do you realise what you're doing" he said firmly throught clenched teeth.

"I do" she replied simply. There was a challenge in her eyes.

"Now tell me Sebastian. Do you like my dress?"

He pursed his lips staring into her eyes.

"You can't take this back now, you know what they're all going to say"

"And what's that?"

"That you've betrayed your house, and chosen a Slytherin" he repeated what he'd already heard.

"And are they wrong?" Her eyes sparkled.

"I don't want you to have to choose"

"I've already chosen, and I choose you." She raised a hand and gently brushed it through his hair.

"They'll hate you for it" he whispered softening at her touch.

"Let them" she said softly.

She took a step down and he moved back, she gazed up at him, a new determination in her eyes that he hadn't seen before.

"Bloody stubborn gryffindor"

"I won't ask you again" she said simply.

He smiled down at her, it was his turn to run his fingers through her hair, resting his hand the base of her neck.

"You look beautiful darling" the words escaped as a whisper before his lips were on hers. His other hand wrapped around her waist and he pulled her body tightly to his.

He was aware of a few quiet gasps and chatterings around them. There'd been rumours brewing that the two of them might be secretly dating for weeks now. His lips moved furiously over hers as she pressed herself to him.

"Sebastian Sallow! Amelia Greyson! Extract yourselves from one another immediately!"

They broke apart at the sound of the professor's voice.

"Well, I have to say I am surprised at both of you" they said agast. "Separate yourselves immediately and I'll see you both in my office first thing! 50 points from each of your houses, I don't care if it is a special event"

Sebastian looked over at Amelias face worried he'd see shame or embarrassment there, but there was no such emotion. She looked triumphant and proud as she stepped a little away from him.

As the professor walked away muttering, Amelia grabbed Sebastians hand

"Dance with me" she grinned pulling him towards the ball room.

He followed in her wake too stunned to speak. There was no going back now.
