Chapter Text

When Foolish had decided to take this elective, it was because he was expecting it to be an easy supplementary class that would help him get the credit he needed to graduate without the worry of it being a heavy workload. All of his upperclassmen had reassured him that the class was simple, only having to show up and learn about random magical creatures.

That's why the Hufflepuff was confused as shit about why he was holding a huge dragon egg with task list in his hand.

It all began with the new professor that was hired on as the Care of Magical Creature position, some bear hybrid from the Polar Federation. Because of the lack of human vocals, this professor Cucurucho had to utilize translation spells when he talked to them. Most of the students were intimidated by him but Foolish personally thought he looked cool despite the mysterious smile he always had on.

The first day of classes was always an interesting because of the awkward shuffle of where people should sit, and where, and catching up on what had happened over the summer. But as a 6th year now, Foolish was just  trying to enjoy his last year in the company of his friends, playing Quidditch, and having fun. He was perhaps a little annoyed that the minute they walked in, the teacher had put put name cards to show where they should sit.

Tina wasn't happy about having to sit near the back but if this was anything like the previous professors, they'd soon find themselves in the seats they wanted by the third week. Foolish looked around for name and found that the other occupant of the table was already ready, materials laid out perfectly in front of him. Foolish definitely thought that he should recognize the Gryffindor in front of him, especially given the purple eyes but he was never good at keeping up with the gossip.

"Hey," Foolish smiled, reaching out his hand. "I'm Foolish Gamers." The other blinked up at him but offered him a hesitant smile.

"Vegetta Gaymers." There was a brief moment of silence before the two began laughing.

"I was wondering why you looked familiar." Foolish slid into the seat next to him, only bothering to bring out his notebook and pen. "I can't believe we actually haven't talked until now. Everyone used to think that we were related during our first year."

"I wasn't aware there was a Muggle variant of the name." Vegetta nodded, looking more at ease since Foolish had taken the lead with the interaction. "My mother owled me after the Sorting Ceremony, asking how I was enjoying Hufflepuff because she'd heard that for the first time in our lineage, a Gaymers had become a Badger."

"Yeah, nope, no noble family here. Just plain Muggleborna." Foolish laughed. Their conversation was cut off by Professor Cucurucho who called everyone to settle down. As he started his introductory speech, Foolish began scribbling down some of what the man was saying. His seating partner likewise occupied himself with taking notes, eyes trained on the board where the professor was waving his wand along the chalkboard, sharp words emerging.

After the assignments were said, Foolish's mind began to wander, because it didn't really matter what the expectations were. His eyes caught on the Prefect badge on the the red robes of the other, and he wondered why he hadn't seen him around more often. Foolish was the type to jump around houses, making friends across the house lines, which he supposed was rather easy considering the reputation of Hufflepuffs. But even during his times hanging out in the Gryffindor dorms, he couldn't remember seeing Vegetta.

"And lastly, the main project that you will be doing with your seating project is taking care of your very own dragon egg."

The silence that filled the room was palpable.

"What?" Foolish asked, mouth dropping open. "Like actual dragon eggs?"  In his peripheral, he could see how the others were looking to the professor for answers even if they hadn't spoken up.

The professor nodded, "The British Ministry of Magic has recently approved for certain breeds of dragon eggs for the public use as pets. I proposed that we put the students of the best magical education in the area to the test."

With a wave of his wand, Professor Cucurucho accio'd the crates that lined the wall towards him. There was a flurry of excited noises that came from the students but Professor Cucurucho made a motion to quiet them down.

"These eggs will be in your care for the rest of the semester, and the parents of the happiest hatchling will be given a reward for their efforts. Alohomora." The crates popped open and in each of the crates was an egg, each with slightly varying shades of colors and textures.

"Professor, isn't it unethical to do something like this? What if we accidentally kill an egg?" BadBoyHalo rose his hand, speaking even before he was called on. Foolish rolled his eyes at the familiar sight of the annoying Slytherin. It seemed like no matter what year they were in they were destined to annoy each other.

"Maybe just don't kill the egg, Bad. Some of us plan to be good parents." Foolish smirked as the other shot him an annoyed look. The professor carefully considered the question though his wand continued to distribute the eggs equally amongst the students. Something in Foolish's throat when he saw when with a red mark on top coming towards Vegetta and him. From the corner of his eye, he saw the other looking curious as the egg floated to their desk, barely catching it when the professor's magic released it.

"Whoa," Foolish laid a hand on it, finger accidentally brushing against Vegetta's. "We're fathers now." He glanced up to see the violet-eyed Gryffindor sporting the most enchanting blush on his cheeks. Foolish's heart skipped a beat, and it felt like the world stood still for a moment with this egg between them.

"Your grade will depend on the completion of this assignment. I trust at your age you can follow instructions." Profesor Cucurucho said in monotone, opening his bag. He gave them a flat smile. "Enjoy the assignment."
