Work Text:
● When Jay flirted with Lonnie initially, she couldn't have been more uncomfortable
● Once they became friends, though, it didn't take long for Jay to really fall for Lonnie
● It took longer for Lonnie to fall for Jay
● Once they actually started dating, the romance was a true whirlwind
● Neither Lonnie nor Jay ever really considered getting married as they grew up, but they couldn't help imagining it once they started dating
● Jay proposed five years after they started dating, whilst Carlos and Jane were expecting
● They got married in China, whilst they honeymooned in Agrabah
● Jay is the favorite uncle
● Jay was initially afraid to have any kids, but after playing with his many nieces and nephew, he was more open to it
● While Jay didn't truly have favorites of his friends' children, he did have a special bond with Evan, due to him being the only boy in a slew of girls
● When Lonnie told him she was pregnant, he was both excited and scared
● Lonnie caught Jay reading books about pregnancy more times that he'll ever admit to
● Lonnie had an early labor scare late into her second trimester, scaring Jay out of his wits; thankfully, Lonnie was fine
● While Lonnie was in actual labor, Evie was the only one Jay called, because she was the only one he trusted to see him so panicked; Evie couldn't help but chuckle at his panic
● In Chinese tradition, the father-to-be was not in the room; Lonnie and Jay tried to stick to that tradition
● After the first contraction, though, Lonnie threw tradition out the window and demanded Jay be in the room
● Jay always knew that Lonnie was having a girl, his daughter
● Lonnie picked the name Baozhai, meaning "stockade of treasures" in Chinese; meanwhile, Jay picked the name Leila, meaning "night" in Arabic; however, her English name was Julianna, which everyone ended up calling her
● The little girl was born with a mop of black hair, Lonnie's eyes, and Jay's nose
● The first thing Julianna did was tug on her dad's hair, causing Jay to yelp; Lonnie found this hilarious
● The little girl was raised speaking Chinese, Arabic, and English
● She'd sometimes get her expressions confused between the three
● Julianna's cousin, Diana, was her best friend
● Diana was also the only one of the kids to call her Leila, her Arabic name
● While her grandparents typically called her by her Chinese name, Mulan sometimes called her Julianna, while Shang occasionally called her Leila
● Apart from her parents, Julianna's favorite person was her uncle Carlos
● Both Lonnie and Jay's favorite picture of their daughter was one that Mulan had snapped of the three of them; Jay was holding Julianna up to see the cherry blossoms and Lonnie smiling beside him
● Julianna was a handful, so much so that Lonnie and Jay decided that she was going to be an only child; this didn't last however, as she got a little brother when she was five; he was named after their grandfather
● Lonnie and Jay never quite lost their youth, and everyday they had was an adventure
