CHIRON:

They aren’t right.

That is a cruel thought, and one Chiron typically does not have for the Demigods that he raises. Of course some come from the darker gods, or even monster spawn, and make others uneasy. But these ones…

The first time he looked Annabeth Chase in the eyes and did not recognize her his heart stopped dead. Already there were whispers about what happened to the children that left Camp before he gave them the word. Whispers about just whose service those precious lost souls found themselves is service to. So when he looked into those famous gray eyes one day not long after she turned thirteen and didn’t recognize the creature staring back at him Chiron was already adding her name to the list of the lost. But in the next second her face was crumpling and the girl flung herself against his legs.

He didn’t get an answer for that strangeness for a while. At first Annabeth brushed off her uncharacteristic response as having a nightmare, something that the rest of her Cabin relayed. But Chiron had comforted her after memories about the loss of Thalia before. This was something much deeper than a simple nightmare. But Chiron was sent away to study a new Demigod that young Grover had found. The Satyr whispered a message that the child smelled the same as young Thalia had Chiron packing his bags without complaint.

He left Annabeth behind, still not right but now smiling as he left.

SALLY JACKSON:

She is many things.

But the most important aspect of Sally Jackson is that she is a mother. Her Perseus is without any kind of doubt the most important person in her life. There was a reason that she allowed Gabe to stain her life for as long as she had. Anything to protect her baby. Even when the boy looking back at her with those to green eyes isn’t her son.

No one else seems to notice it that summer. Not even people that did know Percy. But her boy had never been the most friendly with Mortals, there was too much God in him even before he changed. Now it was so much stronger that even monsters were more prone to backing off.

Percy did tell her of course.

Her baby had never been a good liar, but especially not to her. So when Sally looked at the person who replaced her baby and demanded answers… It didn't take long. As it turns out Perseus is Percy, but her baby is so much older and tired that it's like meeting a new man. Sally can see where he’s been torn apart and put back together on just the far side of wrong. But he is still her baby. He, and the Demigods he brings into her home whose eyes shine in the light. Sally takes them all in no matter how wrong they are.

Because she is many things, but most importantly she is a mother.

CLARISSE LA RUE

Puddles is… weird.

Ever since the day that he walked into the Camp clutching the Minotaurs broken horn he has been weird. In the years after he stays that way, but Clarisse slowly learns more about him. At first she didn’t like him. The swagger and ease that he handled weapons was their thing. Being fighters was the only value the Ares siblings could provide the Camp. Too many of their cousins saw their shitty attitudes and tempers and didn’t get close.

Clarisse expected Jackson to do the same, especially there in the beginning. Back then he was oddly fine boned and thin. He would have looked like an easy target if not for his eyes. Noxiously green like a comic book character. And the way he smiled… he was fucking weird. And then he went and caught the Gods attention just by breathing. As if Clarisse wasn’t doing everything she could to prove that she was worthy of gaining her fathers eyes. As if her knuckles didn’t ache every morning when she woke up from the previous days bruises.

Many of the Campers muttered to themselves when Jackson immediately got sent out on a quest. Clarisse might have joined them in releasing the burning jealousy in her chest if it weren’t for Chase. Annabeth had been acting strange for a few weeks, more so than normal for the brainiac. But she pulled Clarisse aside before they left for the quest and ordered Clarisse to have Head Camper by the time they got back. She said that it was time the Camp started recognizing the Ares kids, and that Clarisse was the only one she trusted to lead the most aggressive of the Demigods.

Clarisse had asked if that meant something was coming.

Annabeth didn’t make eye contact when she lied. And honestly that muttered no was the push Clarisse needed to do what she was told. And in true Ares tradition, it was a bloody fight for dominance that took two days and a night to finally come out on top and claim the position of Head. When the questers returned Annabeth had just nodded to Clarisse, a General congratulating a Lieutenant.

That night Clarisse dreamed of her father. He actually congratulated her on gaining the position of Head, and blessed Lamar to be able to take the form of a copper bracelet so that the daughter of Ares would never be unarmed. And then He rocked her world when He gestured to the new gnarled scar across his face and bluntly said that it was Jackson who did it. Of course Clarisse offered to be her fathers blade and bring Him retribution. But the War God waved her off. Battle was battle, and it was Him who underestimated Jackson.

So yeah. Puddles was fucking weird.

It got easier to deal with him over the years. Clarisse was very quick to learn that beneath the shark toothed smiles and noxious eyes he was a little bit of an idiot. And she privately thought she was the only one who realized that Annabeth Chase was the one who held his leash. Those two new ones were weird too. The pretty daughter of Aphrodite that made Clarisse’s head hurt to look at, and the new Hephaestus boy with fire manipulation that made Chiron rear in shock. But no matter how weird they were, Clarisse saw how they watched the Campers.

The girl, McClean, cut bullying down with nothing more than poisoned words. The boy, Valdez, brought Clarisse Robin any time either of them needed support with eerily good timing. And of course there was Annabeth and Puddles. The weirdest out of everyone but so willing to break and bleed for the Camp. Clarisse was her fathers daughter. She was made to be on the front line and to command legions. She recognized warriors even when they weren’t her siblings. Annabeth and Puddles? Warriors.

Fucking weird warriors, but warriors nonetheless.

Notes:

poor normal people dealing with our weird ass OTP. I just thought it was funny to think about how a few people would see Percy and Annabeth, and wanted to talk about if the Adults realized that these kids were Wrong.
