Work Text:

Peter Quill and Adam Warlock sat in the living room of the Guardians' temporary base on Earth, surrounded by the remnants of their movie night. The other Guardians had all left, leaving Peter and Adam alone in the room. They had been carrying on a secret romance, stealing stolen moments and kisses whenever the other Guardians weren't around.

The movie they had watched was a psychological thriller, eliciting varied reactions from the team. Now, as the credits rolled on the screen, Peter and Adam remained on the couch, their bodies close, and their hearts beating a little faster, knowing they were finally alone together.

Drax, known for his lack of subtlety, had been surprisingly engrossed in the film. He didn't jump or flinch at the scary parts but instead watched with unwavering intensity. As the movie progressed, he occasionally let out a loud, booming laugh, appreciating the clever twists and turns.

Nebula, with her cyborg enhancements and a troubled past, sat on the edge of her seat throughout the film. Her eyes were focused, and her brow was furrowed as she analyzed every scene, trying to decipher the motives and actions of the characters. She found herself intrigued by the complexity of human emotions portrayed in the story.

Rocket, the raccoon-like creature with a penchant for explosives, was less interested in the psychological aspects of the film. Instead, he reveled in the explosions and action sequences, cheering whenever a particularly impressive special effect filled the screen. His excitement was infectious, and Groot, his loyal companion, joined in with his own enthusiastic expressions of joy.

As the Guardians discussed the movie and laughed together, the atmosphere in the room gradually shifted. Drax and Nebula bid their goodnights, followed by Rocket and Groot, leaving Peter and Adam alone in the living room.

Carefully, Adam made his way to the couch where Peter was sitting. With a quick movement, he shifted to the back of the couch, leaving space for Adam to settle beside him. Adam lay down, facing Peter, and they began to talk about the movie, their voices hushed in the intimate space.

Adam kissed Peter's forehead tenderly, and their bodies naturally gravitated toward each other, seeking closeness. They cuddled and exchanged kisses, basking in the warmth of their connection. After a while, Adam's smile took on a mystical quality as he cupped the back of Peter's head, pressing his lips to his forehead before locking eyes with him.

"You know," Adam murmured softly, his voice filled with adoration, "when we watched the movie, I knew you were scared." He kissed Peter again, his thumb gently caressing his cheek. Peter huffed nervously, asking what Adam meant.

Adam grinned, his eyes filled with affection. "I could hear your heart pounding throughout the entire movie," he explained, his voice laced with warmth. Peter huffed again, trying to explain his reaction, but Adam placed a finger on his lips, shaking his head. "Shh... it's okay. I'm not judging you. I never would. I just thought it was very endearing."

Peter seemed to calm down, his anxiety easing as Adam's presence enveloped him. He looked at Adam with a quizzical expression and asked how Adam could hear his heartbeat so clearly. Adam smiled fondly and kissed his lips tenderly before he began to explain his cosmic nature and heightened senses.

"I should've been aware of that," Peter chuckled sheepishly, feeling slightly embarrassed for not considering Adam's unique abilities. "I've been in space for what feels like years! How could that have gone past me?"

Adam pulled him softly into another kiss, whispering gently against his lips, "No, don't worry, it's okay." His breath was warm and enticing, and Peter couldn't help but melt into his embrace. An idea suddenly sparked in Peter's mind, a playful curiosity tinged with desire. He asked Adam if he could listen to his heartbeat now that Adam had heard his, trying to lighten the mood despite his genuine intrigue.

Adam's smile warmed even more, and he gingerly took Peter's hand, placing it on his chest. The heat radiating from Adam's body made Peter shudder slightly in a pleasant way, as he always did. "You're always so warm, Adam... it's so nice," he murmured, his voice filled with genuine appreciation. But his words grew quiet as he felt Adam's heartbeat beneath his palm.

The rhythm was different, unlike any human heart he had ever felt. It beat with an unsteady, otherworldly cadence, a testament to Adam's cosmic nature. At first, Peter felt a surge of worry and a hint of fear, unsure of what to make of this foreign sensation. But as he allowed himself to become accustomed to the unique way it pulsed, his unease gave way to a sense of awe and wonder.

Adam's heart, though different, was a symphony of life, a reminder of the vastness of the universe and the remarkable beings that inhabited it. It resonated deep within Peter, drawing him closer to the enigmatic being he had fallen in love with.

Lost in the sensation, Peter's eyes fluttered closed as Adam gently cupped his cheeks with his warm, tender hands. "Are you ready to hear it now, sweetheart?" Adam whispered, his voice filled with affection and anticipation.

Peter nodded, a small smile playing on his lips, his heart filled with a mixture of excitement and contentment. Adam slowly guided him, pulling Peter closer until his head was nestled against his chest, listening to the unsteady rhythm that defined Adam's existence.

The sound was a melodic lullaby, soothing Peter's worries and fears. With each beat, Peter felt a deeper connection forming, an unspoken bond that transcended the limitations of their individual selves. It was as if their hearts were dancing in harmony, synchronizing their desires, hopes, and love.

As Peter continued listening to the enchanting symphony of Adam's heart, a wave of emotions surged through him. Tears welled up in his eyes, glistening with the depth of his feelings. He couldn't help but become overwhelmed by the significance of what he was experiencing.

"Oh, Adam," Peter whispered, his voice filled with a mix of awe and vulnerability. "It means so much to me... I mean, hearing your heart, that beautiful sound, telling me with each beat that you're alive, alive, alive..."

His voice cracked with emotion as he spoke, his words laced with profound gratitude for the cosmic entity lying beside him. The weight of their connection, the reminder of life's fragility and fleeting nature, swelled within him, making his love for Adam grow even stronger.

Moved by Peter's heartfelt words, Adam's own eyes shimmered with unshed tears. He wrapped his arms around Peter, pulling him into an embrace that conveyed his own deep emotions. "Peter, my love," Adam murmured, his voice tinged with a mixture of tenderness and raw honesty, "you have no idea how much the fact that you're alive means to me."

Their bodies entwined, they held each other as if trying to merge into a single entity, finding solace in the warmth and comfort they provided one another. Their kisses deepened, fueled by a passionate yearning that spoke volumes about their love and desire.

Without even thinking about it, Peter's hand remained firmly pressed against Adam's chest, feeling every beat change rhythm as their lips moved in perfect harmony. The dance of their hearts became an intimate duet, synchronizing their love and passion, drawing them closer with every shared breath.

As they lost themselves in each other, time seemed to fade away, leaving only the purity of their connection. In that moment, nothing else mattered but the love they shared, the profound realization that they were intertwined in a bond that surpassed the confines of space and time.
