Chapter Text
Change is invitable. It's an everyday occurence that no one can completely control. It can be subtle, like a budding romance or in the form of a young plant finally breaking through the dark earth and feeling the sunlight for the first time, uncurling its small leaves to be part of the forest.
Sometimes however, change can be very obvious.
Like, lets say in the form of a meteor colliding with earth. Or several in fact.
That happened a good twenty years ago and it quite literally had a big impact on everyones life.
Within a year changes started to happen, changes that couldnt go unnoticed by the people.
One of the first were the sightings of insects three times bigger than a human. They suddenly appeared in the neighboring woods and fields, it was only a small number of sightings, nothing to worry about right?
Wrong. Those sightings crashed through the roof a few days later. Not only were there insects that reached the heigth and lenght of a truck. But also various mammals and reptiles that showed hostility toward anything smaller than them.
Some time later more things started to change. Ecosystems began to collapse all around the world, there was nothing humanity could have done to prevent that disaster. Not even with their refined technology.
That's what your parents told you anyway.
You were born just after hell broke loose, the first shock was over but natural disasters and barren lands spread rapidly. A tiny human that saw the light of day as everything around them fell apart.
And here you were, scavenging ruins in hope to find tradeables or other salvageable stuff. Surviving had become a lot harder in the last two centuries.
Good for the people around you that you had a lack of self-preservation and stormend into dagerous situations without thinking twice. Your poor parents who, you were sure of, had to have about twenty near heart attacks because of your actions. They gave you hours of lectures to prevent you from getting into more trouble than necessary...not that it stopped you. You were just mindful not to do it in their presence.
And by now you were a grown adult anyway, steering for the early twenties you were more than able to take care of yourself, or not dying at least.
"Well..." with a yawn you stretch your arms wide, inhaling the evening breeze that carries the smells of dry dust "Time to move on! No use staying here when there is nothing to get anyway" humming to youself you start walking. Debris crunching underneath your heavy boots as an old path guides you trough the ruins of an old city.
To be honest, the whole apocalyptic setting the world is in right now doesn't rallly bother you. Being born in chaos and just living with it everyday is just what you grew up with, there aren't many calm memories in your life, despite moments with your family of course.
Not that you could afford that anyway, people tend to hoard everything for themselves and will not hesitate to take extreme measures to get rid of you, just for the sake of keeping what they have. An experience you unfortunately had to wittness firsthand, causing you to lose your left arm in the process. It was very...unpleasant to say the least and probably the reason you refuse to let your guard down.
But hey, now you have a really cool prosthetic robo arm and it looks badass as hell! Flexing mentioned arm the metallic fingers gently clink against another, creaking in a funny way as you bend them downward to amuse yourself.
After a while of just walking and keeping an eye on your surrounings you come across a small forest.
A cool breeze blows against you, softly ruffling your unkept hair in greetings before moving on. It doesn't seem like there are any insects around, you slow your pace and start to listen.
It always amazed you just how lively the night could be. You could hear the bats above you searching for food. The breeze that blew past you causes the tree branches to rustle against another, a little further away a branch just snapped. Probably meaning that a small mammal made its way through the woods or that something was just waiting for you to be careless-
You quickly shake your head and start focusing on the road ahead. Sightseeing could be done later, first you should reach the settlement a kind lady told your about earlier. Maybe they would be nice enough to give you directions.
Sure enough after ten minuts of just walking and listening how your boots made different noises on different underground, you find the settlement. You come to an halt, taking it in from a safe distance.
It's bigger than anticipated, maybe bigger than a footballfield. You saw one of them once when passing by an old town.
Tents and even small houses are locted within. You hear the cry of an infant and several other noises indicating that there life a lot of people, this must be an old settlement then...with lots of resources if they are managing to feed all those people.
You take a deep breath to calm down. Resisting the urge of going further and just get things over with, it's not wise to just nilly willy storm at their gates...who knows what kinds of weapons they have and what kind of people came before you.
You never liked settlements as big as this, it usually means nothing but trouble. At least speaking from your humbling experience.
Nodding you start walking toward the gates, ignoring the anxoius butterflies gathering your stomach.
"Halt!" you stop, smiling at the man in front of you, his face is illumnated by the lamp beside him, giving sight to the beard he has "State your buisness or scram" you nod and take a short breath before answering "Just scavening for any stuff I can find" you wince at the answer, it probably could have sounded a little more profssional, but that was likely just your father speaking in your head.
"I will be on my merry way if I could pass...please?" pointing past the man and deeper into the wood you wait for his answer. He hums to himself, seemingly more relaxed than before but still on guard. "Alright..." his gaze glides down toward your artifical arm, squinting at it with clear distrust, you carfully rise it "Just a prosthesis, nothing more" he grumbles, not fully convinced but accepts the answer anyway.
"Ok, be on your merry way then..." you nod at him, refraining from grinning and instead settling with a soft smile "Much appreciated" you turn around and walk off, debating whether or not you should stop and ask if there were any buildings nearby or just keep on walking and finding out yourself.
"Hey!" the man calls out to you and you stop, glancing back "If you continue down that path you will come across an abandoned...whatever it was" he groans and shakes his head, clearly forcing himself to tell you that "Whatever, it's a big building and not safe. If you value your life you should avoid it" you just nod and carefully dip forward as thanks before continuing down the path, happy that things seem to turn to your favor.
It doesn't take long for you to find the building or an entrance.
"Jackpot" grinnig triumphantly to yourself and jumping in excitment you rush into the ruin, whatever building is this big has to have a ton of goodies and junk. No plan why the nearby groups refuse to set foot in there.
As fast as you run into the ruin, you skid to an halt even faster at the lack of vision presenting itself to you, what catches you totally off guard. From the outside it seemed that there were enough holes so the moonlight could guide you.
A few rocks skip across the ground, the sound echoing through the darkness and telling your sensitiv ears that the space your standing in must be massive to say at last.
A heavy thunk sounds in the distance, accompanied by buzzing and something creacking. It causes the hair on your neck to stand. Huh, didn't like that.
Looking around you are unable to make out anything to help keeping orientation, or make a little light. And your pretty sure that the flashlight you do have is back with your parents...
Thinking hard you lower down on the ground, sitting cross legged while your gaze glides across the darkness to focus.
It would be a shame to pass this opportunity and returm home empty handed, your gut tells you that there are some really nice things hidden in the darkness.
You could probably go back to the camp in the forest, they had lamps there and even a flashlight if you saw that corretly. Maybe some of the junk you already carry around would make for a good trade, especially something for children. Parents tend to take better care of these little devils than themselves, understandable of course, but it makes you vulnerable.
The other option would be to waltz blindly into the darkness and grab whatever you can find, take it back outside and go in again. Not the safest thing to do but who cares? Certainly not you.
Having decided you untangle your legs, blinking to moisture your now dry eyes while hoisting your body up and standing again.
You hum unconsious as your left hand traces along the wall you just found to help keep a stady trail and not unnecessary stumble across the room, the metal rasps loudly across the concrete.
A sudden shuffle across from you lets you stop. Instantly removing the prosthetic arm from the wall and cursing yourself for being so careless when you know better.
"Hello?" calling out into the dark void you are greeted with nothing but silence. Tense seconds pass by as your heartbeat grows louder, picking up in speed by the omnious feeling of being watched. It doesn't help as your brain starts imaging shallow movement in the dark, you are staring a little to intense.
Groaning you blink and rub your eyes, staring really isn't what you should be doing right now. As you open your eyes again you freeze, blood running cold.
Two red dots stare at you from the dark, unmoving.
You want to blink again and blame it on the little sleep you got. But your body is frozen in place, convinced that what you see across from you is NOT just in your head and very much real. Very much a threat.
Carefully you take a step back, ready to run if something decides to pounce at you from the darkness.
"Don't mind me" a hoarse whisper escapes you and you quickly swallow what salvia you have, talking in stressful situations while still not in combat is a habit you developed to stall time.
"I'm already going...see?" there is no movement, no noise to indictae that whatever you are looking at, or looks at you, is actually there.
Taking deep breaths you come closer to the opening, your eyes are burning from being forcefully kept open to stare at the two red dots and the urge to blink gets worse with each passing second.
Upon feeling a gust of air on your back your blinking relfex takes over and you close your eyes for a split second.
As you open them again, gaze still firmly directetd towards the two red dots, you see nothing but darkness. Straining your ears for even the smallest noise you stop breathing.
It remains silent, the only noise reaching your ears is your fast beating heart and the whispering of the forest. Nothing more, not even a rustling from whatever animal is out there. "..." blinking a few more times you search for the two dots, refusing to believe it was a bad joke your sleep deprived brain pulled on you. Not with the way your body reacted.
A burning sensation fills your throat.
Only a second more, you do not feel safe enough to stop listening just yet.
After another moment you draw a sharp breath, releasing it slowly and turning you gaze away from the darkness. Whatever creature you just had a staring contest with, you were glad it didnt move or you would have probably started to scream.
Groaning you wipe a hand down your face, collecting what little nerves were left after the encounter.
The camp it is then, now if only there was something usable for children around here-
A soft squeaking noise makes you flinch and fear reezes your body instantly. It takes you several moments to clear your distressed mind and grasp that it was nothing more than an old plush lying under your boots.
Hell, maybe skipping the afternooon nap wasn't the smartest idea.
Quickly grabbing the plush you scan the ground for something else, maybe there would be another one laying around?
As a matter of facts there was, best thing? Not far from you stands a whole container of them, surrouded by chunks of debris and probably coated with several layers of dust, but you weren't someone to complain and you don't look a gifted horse in the mouth.
Taking the few steps toward the container you start to rummage, coughing as dust clouds your vision. With a quick movement of your prosthetic arm a scarf is above your nose to shield it from anymore particels.
At the end you have about six decent looking plushes, their age noticeable but whoever made those things apparently used sturdy materials. Not even a stone was able to put a scratch to the aligator looking one after you pulled it out. Seems like those things selled well a decade ago or so, given their numbers.
Proudly gathering the plushes and storing them away you turn around one last time before departing.
The feeling of being watched didn't stop after reaching the opening in the wall, even if you lacked self-preservation your instincts made it uncomfortably clear that it could have ended on a differnt note.
Wrinkling your nose and sticking your tounge toward the darkness you walk away, already feeling a little better.
Walking on the dirt trail and just listening to the sounds of nature you find your thoughts spiraling around the building, it's weird seeing something as big as that in a forest. It was definitively giving off odd vibes but that shouldn't be enough to scare you right? After all you saw the many things humans were able to do and heard the craziest stories where even a toddler would shake its head.
It wouldn't be enough to scare you.
Given that your hands are shaking and you walk a tad faster than usual it apparently does.
Yet it's easy for you to convince your brain that it was nothing more than a bad hallucination from too little sleep. The weird vibe the building gave you, the red dots...nothing more than tricks your mind played on you, wouldnt be the first time.
Afterall, Sleep came for you as easy as it was for a human to breathe underwater.
You repeat that a few more times in your head. Trying and somewhat succeeding in convincing yourself that there was nothing.
Your hands stop shaking and with the next deep breath you feel the rest of fear disappear.
Good, now you can completely focus on the task at hand: aquiring a flashlight of some sorts.
Getting said flashlight was easier than thought.
Right after you set foot into the camp, bickering a little with the man at the gate, and proposing the deal they agreed, almost without hesitation. A few wary looks were directed at you but since ignorance is one of your best friends you brushed them off. By now they would have noticed that you ignored the warning.
"It was a pleasure trading with you Sir" grinning broadly and strapping your bag back over your shoulder the old man rolls his eyes "Brats like you will die the fastest". Ow, that hurt a little. "Sorry to dissapoint you but this bad boy" you gesture at your body "Can fit so much raw power thrown at it! Indestructable" the man makes a face at you as if he just heard a very bad joke and someone complimented him with it. His gaze then settles on your left arm, once again "Oh..." patting the metallic limb you smile sweetly, feeling a little uncomfortable "We dont talk about good ol' Henry".
The man simply turns around and walks away. Not sparing another glace toward your figure. Good job, sucessfully weirded a stranger out.
As you stand at the entrance an elderly woman walks toward you, assuming she has buisness outside the camp you take a step to the side for her to pass. She notices and smiles, coming to a halt beside you.
"Thank you dear, but I just wanted to give a little advice" her hands take your own as she shootingly rubs them, you let her. Old people seem to like you, did you seem so feeble?
"Sure" her smile widens a little, revealing dimples that deepen with how pleased her smile becomes.
"Please be careful when going back into the building. We are unsure which of these robots are active and which not" confused you nod slowly, unsure why there would be any need for her to warn you. There werent any robots when you got in.
"A year ago we lost a few people to this place. Must have been horrible, no one said a thing...just that they were attacked" a noise of discomfort escapes her, eyes desperately looking into your own. Must have been a lingering memory, so you decide to comfort her "Dont worry, I have my fair share of experience. And I honestly doubt that there is even a slim chance of a robot still functioning" she sighs and nods, letting go of your hands "You may be right dear, but then again the Pizzaplex was always speculated to be...shady" shaking her head after dumping the information on you she pats your cheek affectionately "Take care" nodding slightly you watch her retreat back into the camp.
The Pizzaplex? Like in Freddy Fazbear Mega Pizzaplex from your fathers stories? Today must be your lucky day, your gut was right about there being lots of goodies in the dark! A content hum escapes you as you start walking back to the pizzaplex.
Ten minutes later you are standing inside the building once again. Shining the flashlight around and taking in your surroundings.
It is dusty, the first thing you notice beside the massive room and grimy walls. Your light cone catches the little shapes of dust idly flying through the air but nothing what you didn't expect and far from what you actually want to find.
Large chunks of debris lie scattered on the floor, overturned desks an pieces of what could have been a wet floor sign buried beneath it. Not far from you looms a large hole in the ground, the ceiling is most likely to blame for that. Would have been ugly if you fell in at your fist visit.
Directing the light to your left you can see what could have been the original entrance. A little above it you can make out four neon-light faces. They're all animal based and seeing the bear, or whta is left of it, it must be depicture Rreddy and the gang.
Your gaze lands on a remarkable big piece of ceiling that barricades the entrance and there is a metal shutter too, makes you wonder why they felt the need to shut the door...
Taking a few steps you move your arm to the right. Nothing much to see there beside more rubble.
So you start walking toward the entrance, taking care to avoid the large hole in the ground. A quick peek inside revealed nothing but broken floor and an eerie, unending darkness even with the help of the flashlight.
It doesn't take long until you find the first robot, a original white model it seems. Poor thing is halfway buried under a pile of rubble, its lower body crushed and unretrievable. Nodding you squat down, touching the machine curiously. It is cool to the touch, the shattered face allowing you to see the eye sockets where little camera eyes must have been.
"A shame I'm no mechanican...could have tried to fix you buddy" patting its head you stand back up and walk around it.
As you walk further into the pizzaplex more and more bodys of those white bots come into view, either completely destroyed or in pieces.
Nothing really salvagable comes into view but you had time, maybe six hours until dawn and another full day before you had to be back home...yeah no, not enough time for this big ass place.
Walking up a pair of stairs you keep right, humming to yourself once again to make the silence bearable.
Discovering a door you grab the handle and push it open, not expecting it to give in so easy you land face first onto the dusty ground. Letting go of your flashlight by the impact.
"Well that hurt" you groan. Making an attempt to clean yourself you look up, a small hallway awaits to be explored, suprisingly this part isn't as destroyed as the rest, a few vending machines lay on the ground but overall it's clean.
Getting hold of the flashlight you walk to the open shutters and into the behind, ignoring the sinking feeling in your stomach.
"What do we have here?" eyeing the area you check the ceiling, discovering that further ahead most of it broke down revealing more darkness you weren't ager to inspect. The floor is a shade of blue as well as the walls around you. A few chairs and tables...shelves but that's about it, the area looks surpisingly...clean and intact.
"Odd...but I'm not complaining" smiling your gazes lands on two statues in front of you, a whistle escapes you at the sheer size of them.
One of the statues seems to be a Sun themed robot, rays sticking out around the face arms wide in a greeting. And the other, hunched behind the sun and on a rope depicts a moon themed robot, a litte nightcap on its head and his head is tilted to the side, as if inviting to play a game with you. They resemble jesters, funny puffy trousers and little bells on their shoes as well as wrists.
"For children? Orrrr...adults?" you can't quite pinpoint but sway to the latter, it's too colorful to just be for adults. Stepping closer you notice an opening behind them and approach it to inspect it.
It turns out to be a slide. Words painted above in blue saying something along the line of 'Slide into fun'. It invites to do just that, wouldn't a section of the slide be missing.
Scratching your head the flashlight is diretcted downwards and an excited gasps escapes you at the spectrum of collors greeting you.
"A ball pit?! Oh hell yes!" your joy gets cut short as something beneath you shatters and stomping is heard, accompanied by soft jingling, steps that quickly distance themself from you before mechanical whirring follows.
"Ah" the words from the old woman ring in your head, robots who may or may not be deactivated strolling around the plex. Rolling your eyes at yourself you make a shooing motion with you hand, it was probably just an old something that somehow still has energy and activates by sound waves or sound or whatever. Seems plausible enough.
As you sit on the slide a sharp pinch down in your stomache stops you, urging you to turn around. Placing your prostetic arm above it deep breaths are taken in an attempt to calm down.
After forcefully calming down you slide down into the ballpit.
Although shortlived a pleasant tingling shoots through your stomach as you fall shortly into the ballpit and are buried beneath the many colorful plastic balls.
For just a moment you relax, the feeling of weight around you oddly comforting.
With the next jingle however you sit straight. Fumbling to direct the flashlight in front of you and around to make sure you were alone and the sound nothing more than the cause of sleep deprivation.
Standing carefully in the ballpit you wade to the exit, a little bridge that leads onto soft padded ground. Poking it with your hand you quickly notice how crumbly it actually is and refrain from poking it again.
"Let's see..." you mumble, stepping closer to a big piece of ceiling, another leans against it and creates a small space underneath. Perfect for hiding...not that you will need it though, afterall you are alone. But it will suffice as a temporal storage for your bag.
Stepping over junks of concrete you spot a massive playstructure, a little broken down but back in it's prime days it must have been the highlight for children. Besides those celestial themen bots of course. (And the ballpit)
"Treasures~" you gently call into the playarea, flashlight directed to the ground "Come out, come out wherever you are~".
It was meant to be a joke, of course, jut you talking to yourself, but whatever tackles you to the ground a second later thought otherwise.
Wheezing as air is presses out of your lungs you try to look at your attacker, perplexed what in the fuck just happened you instinctively shield your face with the prostethic arm. Not too late it seems, only a moment after doing so something sharp scrapes across it, the unpleasant sound of metal meeting metal fills your ear and you struggle to kick whatever sits above you and tears on your artifical limb.
"Get off!" you grunt, finally finding footing with your legs and using all your strength to push against the being. An earsplitting screech sounds as the attacker lands with a thumb on the floor, trashing as mechanical growls escape it and you catch a glimpse of red staring at you.
Scrambling to your feet you break into a run, illuminating the way with the flashlight your miracoulosly still hold in your hand.
Frantically searching for a hiding spot your eyes dart across the room not stopping once to look if the creature is still behind you. Judging by the sound of creaking joints and rapidly approaching, heavy footsteps it still fucking is.
"Fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck!" panicked you take as sharp right turn, the crature hisses as it skids across the floor, its body unable to maintain the level of flexibility but shortly after that it is hot on your heels again.
Panting you make another sharp turn and risk a look behind you, only to see the creature pounce at you. Dropping on the ground by pure instinct it crashes into the playstructure behind you. Growling and hissing in annoyance as its claws try to pull it out.
Disgarding the flashlight you get up again. Hiding behind the next best thing you can find and clasping a hand over your mouth to avoid any noise escape it.
Tense seconds pass as the creature frees itself out of the playstructure with obvious anger, there is a lot of noise as its claws probably snap the plastic bars in half. Low statical hissing sounding from its voicebox.
You picture it scanning the area as silence fills the room. Looking down you search for something to distract it, the darkness doesnt make it easier but your eyes are already adjusting to it.
- knock, knock-
You freeze at the sound right next to you, breath catching in your throat.
Did it hear you breath? If so then you are screwed big times, there is nothing you could use to defend yourself and like the idiot you are you left a knife in your bag. Your parents would kill you for sure if they knew you forgot rule number one: Whatever the situation, be ready to stab...actually no. You made that up right now, but you are panickin and-
You stop thinking as something buzzez above you, an erratic sound as some part rasps right after. The hauntingly soft jingles of bells chime as heavy foosteps walk away, a breath escapes you and shoulders slump down as relief floods your body.
Giving yourself a mental slap as reminder to stop freaking out you peek around the corner. Maybe there would be something in reach to distract the creature, you still had to get your bag, your knife was in it. Not going without it, you would glady fight the creature if it meant getting it back.
You nearly jump and run as something ahead of you tears loudly, an angry rumble follows. "Oh shit" you breathe out, finally making out the silhouette of your attacker and insantly ducking behind your hide-away as glowing red eyes stare toward you. The head of the creature doing a 180 degree.
That thing is fucking tall! But thats ok, feeling across the floor your hand makes contact with something round, that means it shouldn't be that fast getting fro one place to the other...right?
Holding the item tightly you carefully sit up, looking over the edge of the hide-away, you would just use its height to your advantage, it won't get you between the rubbles right? And judging how aggresively it tears everything apart that isn't you it will instantly charge toward any noise made.
Rising your artifical hand you throw the round object as far away from you as possible, using the extra strength the metal arm gives you.
Landing somewhere between rubble and something else the wanted distraction is created, luring the creature away.
Now its time to get out of here and never come back again!
Crouching as fast and quiet as possible to the next big piece of ceiling you watch the red eyes looking for the noise, its still distracted, using the time you move further. You wince at the noise that comes from your boots as bits of debris get crunched beneath it, probably should have taken those off but it's a little too late for that now.
- Knock, knock -
You supress the urge to curse as the metall hand of the robot makes contact with the conrete. It is standing on the other side of the debris you just hid behind.
How did it move so fast without making a sound?
- Knock, knock-
Again it knocks, slower this time.
Bastard knows your there then. Great.
Upset about being so careless, yet again, you bite your lip, trying to think of a way out. However, the whirring and mocking knocking noise make this a difficult task.
-knock...-
Holding your breath you wait for the second knock, but it doesn't come.
Curious and perplexed you wait a little longer, there is no noise, no whirring. It is dead silent in fact.
Your mind screams at you to just run as you crane your neck to catch a glimpse of the other side, there is nothing. "Huh..." did it give up?
It did, in fact not, you realize a moment later. A deep chuckle sounding from above and you slowly look up.
The creature is hunched atop the debris, its red eyes staring a little too intense at you, they have the same red eyes you saw when first entering the plex. Holding eyecontact you breathe out.
"That was you" the words come out with no strength and the robot tilds its head leaning closer toward you, there is a permanent, wide grin on its face and you wince as it seems to stretch.
"...I'm going to die aren't I?" those words were meant for you but the robot emits a static noise that sounds like confirmative humming before its eyes squint in delight. They really didn't need to make that part of it that expressive.
This time you were prepared as it jumps at you. Rolling to the side you evade it and get on your elbows to stand up. However the robot is faster than you.
A yelp escapes you as claws dig into your thighs and drag you back toward it. You try to kick against the robot but get blocked off as it places its own body on your middle. Groaning at the sharp pain an attempt is made to wiggle free, and with all the adrenalin pumping through your body, you fail to notice how the claws tear at your shirt, cutting into the soft flesh beneath with ease.
"Fuck off!" swingig your metal arm at the robot you freeze as another hand catches it, slamming it against the soft padded floor. That's all the distraction the robot needs and a cool hand grabs your neck, cold metallic claws curling around it before squeezing it so hard it takes two seconds for your body to react. Curse your lack of sleep for making your body react so slow.
Small ragged gasps escape your throat as you desperately try to get some air in your lungs, your free hand hitting the head of the robot above you. It doesn't budge, the action only elicting a deep, jumping chuckle out of it and even more pressure around your neck. Those red eyes still staring down at you.
Discarding the idea of hitting a being out of metal you grab the hand that squeezes your neck, clawing at it in hopes to somehow get it off.
Tears blurr your vision as your lungs start to ache from the lack of oxygen and you feel the strenght leaving your muscles.
In a last attempt to save your life you go limp, body relaxing while your eyes close. The pressure around your throat doesn't go away, if, it only increases, metal poking into the senistiv skin. But the robot lets go of your prostethic arm. A mistake, you were going to punch this asshole so hard.
Gathering all remaining strength you open your eyes and slam the metallic fist sideways into the robots head. Caught off guard by the momentum it falls to the right with a warbled growl, hand still tight around your neck it pulls you along with it. You try to scream at the pain that the claws cause by ripping at the sensitive skin on your neck, but only gurgling leaves your throat.
Your face slams against something hard and there is a twitch to the hand on your neck. Vision fading into black you punch the robot again. At least you hoped you did. Judging by the muffled sound of metal you succeeded.
A hiss fills your ears and the hand choking you retreats with a jerking movement, there is no time to even draw a ragged breath as you feel the robot harshly punching you stomach, sending you backwards.
Colliding head first with a piece of ceiling your vision goes black, pain fills your senses as wheezing, burning breaths are taken and air fills your aching lungs.
You try to stand up again, easier said than done with blurry vision, wobbling legs and a shaking body. Your foggy mind doesn't help much. An amused chuckle not far from you causes you to back up. Your back hitting the hard stone as mechanical creaking comes closer.
That's it, your going to die.
- Thunk -
From one second to the other a dazzling brightness blinds your, causing your eye to shut close with a pained hiss. Static hissing rings out to you accompanied by a lot of mechanical clicking and shifting, then silence settles around the room.
Blinking you look up, only to see a flash of yellow pass you in the blink of an eye, too fast for you to process fully.
You brain needs a moment to procss the new information about the robot being gone. You have brought your artifical hand up to your neck, eyes closed as you focus solely on how your chest heaves and falls. You're so close to fall unconsious, already feeling the dark void pulling at the back of your mind.
After a few breaths you open your eyes and turn your head "Ow..." now that the adrenalin leaves your system a dull but pulsing pain takes its place. Between ragged breaths you feel something warm run down your face, ignoring it you fix your eyes on a broken pipe on the ground. If this robot is still around, but somehow avoids the light, it would be best to strike while the chance stands.
You extend your hand toward it and feel the weight of the cold metal meeting your palm. Taking one, two breaths you stand up, mindful of the pace, too fast and you would end up on the ground again.
The world threathens to slip to the right as you stand and you quickly grab hold of the piece of ceiling. Your legs feel awfullly wobbly, it seems like your body weights more than usual and your throat hurts with each new breath your taking. After a few moments of recollection you stagger foward, clenching the broken pipe.
Stopping in front of where you saw the hush of yellow disappear you take a deep breath "Hey! come out! I'm not finished with you yet" your voice is hoarse and it hurts to speak but you ignore that. Focused on finding the robot that attacked you, thinking will be done later.
A whimper just up ahead gets your attention, it sounds...pained?
You shake your head, the image of that grin very much imprintet in your memory. It could be a trap. The crumbs of debris crunch beneath your shoes as you approach, the pipe rised. Ready to strike.
"Got you" you get a glimpse of yellow moving in a jerking manner but it halts completely as you come into sight, it stares with wide eyes at you.
You scrunch your nose, unsure why it doesn't try to pounce at you like before. Was it trying to lure you in a false sense of security? Unlikely, but you couldn't say that you didn't feel just a tiny bit relieved upon seeing it up close, hidden between two pieces of ceiling it looks kind of...pathetic.
Swallowing you walk a tad closer and immediately flinch back as the robot violently jerks backwards. The movement sartled you so much you almost let go of the pipe, gripping it tighter, you feel grateful for the grounding weight.
A warbled fizzle reaches your ears and you blink to focus back on the robot. It has its eyes trained on you while also trying to get further away...it almost seems like its...scared?
You watch, pipe slowly lowering, as the robot scratches the walls seemingly desperate, more pained sounds coming from its voice box that, much to your surprise and disbelief, tug at your heart. It seems genuinely scared of you.
You bite your lip, torn between leaving and getting as far away from this place and staying to help the robot.
Against your better judgement and by whatever force is causing you to do this you choose the latter.
"Hey big guy" you whisper shakily, lowering down on your knees so you can make proper eye contact with the robot. The pipe is still in your hand, just in case it decides to jump at you. With careful movements you come closer.
Its white eyes widen, looking unnaturally frightened at you. A poorly defined growl is tossed at you. You halt, blinking at it before a weak chuckle leaves your throat "Not really intimidating after your prior show" the words somehow make it shrink into itself, and it covers its face. That gesture makes you wonder once again why it isn't trying to attack you. Or at least flee? It is seemingly scared and yet doesn't make an attempt to escape.
Looking it over you quickly find the cause why it isn't running, the round faceplate is stuck between the two rubble pieces. Rays sticking out around it, where they there when it hunted you earlier?
Shaking your head you scoot even closer, again, thinking can be done later. You will help the machine for now...hopefully you won't come to regret it later on.
"Hey...buddy? ...I'm going to help you now" you quickly grab its face as it removes his hands from it, trying to see what you were going to do. For a moment you think it will hold still but that is only after a warbled, pitiful whine sounds from its voicebox that it starts to trash around with its claws.
You duck your head, barely dodging the big hand and pull on its faceplate in an attempt to loosen it. A painful whimper follows at that and you find yourself grimacing as if you could feel its pain. Caught up in the moment you soothingly slide your thumb across the damaged face as you push and pull a little more.
After what seems like an eternity of pushing, pulling and dodging the erratic movement its head sinks down, full weight now on your hands.
Breathless you watch as the robot freezes, eyes directed at your smiling face.
"Wasn't that bad now was it?" you let go of its face, scooting to the left in case it decides to run. The robot doesn't move an inch. It's just staring at you in silence. Does it not understand that it is free?
So you move toward it again, taking one of its hands in yours. Looking up you check if the touch would get a reaction out of it but it just...stares. You put all your trust in it and slightly pull at its hand. To your relief it allows you to drag it into the lights, moving a little away from the pieces of rubble.
You slowly sit down, still holding its hand as the robot mirrors your movement and silence settles around you again. Giving you time to think.
This robot is the complete opposite of what you experienced minutes ago, you would even say that the one sitting beside you is a completely different one...whereas the robot before reminded you of a bloodhungry animal, this one seems like a fearful dog. Your unsure what to do...maybe just talking would be a good start?
"There, everything's alright now" you whisper, shifting your prosthetic hand so it lies on top of the robots, you feel it shudder and pull your hand back to your side. Can it feel your touch? This little gesture reminds you a little too much of a human.
"I'm...um, sorry for startling you...I was just pretty freaked out about earlier...do you understand?" you observe the round face, it doesn't look at you but seems to listen. "Wasn't including active robots in my scavenge today..." this part you mumble to yourself.
With a sigh you take a closer look at it. By the looks of it this must be one of the robots you saw the statues of.
The rays you noticed earlier are still there, some of them fully extended, damaged but out while other are broken and bend, unable to extend to their full length. The dirty and cracked face is still turned away from you, but there is a good chunk missing on the lower left side, revealing bare metal beneath.
Your eyes trail to the hand you were holding. There is nothing around them, no yellow painted plastic to give a proper casing or anything similar. The entire arm seems to be just its...skeleton?
The rest of the body doesn't seem to be in a better state. The casing on its chest is cracked and has a few holes in it. The age is clearly noticeable. The original puffy pants are torn, revealing more skeleton beneath, and grime covers the once briliant colors. There is no sight of the frills you vaguely remember. It also has no shoes, no little bells dangling at their ends, but torn ribbons on its wrists, the two bells adorning them still there.
The robot doesn't appear so frightening anymore...if, then- you hesitate with the thought for a moment- it looks lonely and scared. The expression doesn't match the statues energetic grin you saw before coming down here...
"You poor thing" the words leave your mouth before you know what you said "You've been alone all this time?" its head buzzes slightly, turning to look at you for a second and then staring straight at the ground. If you didn't know any better it is fully aware of that, your heart skips at the thought of it being aware of itself- sentience would be too cruel down here. You hope it's not and you're just reading too much into it.
"Ah that reminds me of something, wait just a moment" you smile gently, patting its hand and then standing up to get the one plush from your back. Maybe this will help this robot to calm down.
A sudden wave of dizzines and nausea makes you stumble however, vision clouded with little black dots as you lean a little too much forward. "!" before you can fall someone grabs you, metal hands securing your shoulders surprisingly gently, only letting go after you are standing on your own again.
A little startled you turn around "Thank-" the quick creaking of metal and soft jingles from the bells indicate that the robot just darted away. You search for the sun and spot it watching you from inside the playstructure. It ducks its head slightly after making eyecontact.
That particular gesture reminds you of Mika, a shy dog back at your settlement. Amused you walk toward you bag, maybe you should treat it like Mika for now. Just talking and waiting for it to come out on its own.
"Wait a moment" you stop in you movements and lower the bag in your hands "I'm not here to take care of a robot" a groan escapes you as the actual goal of your scavenging pops back into mind. You should probably leave it alone while its still docile and not attacking, you have a feeling that when the ligts go out the next time you won't be so lucky.
"Hey buddy, I'm gonna..." you trail of as you see its upper half out of the playstructure, white eyes scanning you with what seems to be curiousity while its head is slightly tilded to the side. One hand is outstetched twitching as if it wants something from you.
It retreats as it notices you looking, not without spying on you of course and you find yourself smiling, thinking that it is, in a sense, adorable.
"..." you blink, look at the plush in your hands and then back to the robot. Well shit, if you didn't know any better the tingle in your stomach tells you clearly that you want to get to know the robot a little better. It wouldn't be that much of a distration of your scavenge, you could leave this place and come back to the robot later. "I'm gonn stay a while, can't leave you this dirty!" a bad excuse, really, your tone giving away that this isn't the actual reason.
Well time for you to get settled then. You can talk while taking care of the injuries across your body.
"So" you start, sitting down while soaking a piece of cloth in water, adressing the first question on your mind "How come you are still active?" there is no answer and you dab the wet cloth over the marks on your neck, wincing slightly at the pain hat follows.
"You must be the sun robot I saw as a statue eralier. Is your name actually Sun?" laying the bloodied cloth on the ground you browse your bag for some bandages, forcing you to not look at the robot in case it musters up the courage to come near you.
"Well I'm going to call you Sun now, hope you don't mind" finally finding what you were looking for you set the bandage beside you and take the wet cloth again to move to your face. Not exactly knowing what to say you just ramble on "Actually...would you mind a nickname? I mean there are a lot I could come up with, like Sunny" your gaze glides across the room. With the lights on you can make out a lot more than just the playstructure and the ball pit.
There are broken tables and small chairs on the ground. One table in particular looks like it was used not long ago, little rock towers adorning the once blue surface. It's cute, you wonder if it was Sun who did this.
The whole room is actally pretty colorful once you take it all in. There are a lot cabinets against the walls, some broken but a multitude of them in a surprisingly good state. You can faintly see books in one of them.
"Wow, this must have been a really nice daycare !" you spy a ripped poster on one of the walls, yellowy due to time but you can clearly make out sun and the other robot, judging by his theme his name is probably Moon or something. The words above them too old to be made out.
"Was Moon the one who hunted me down earlier?" continuing to clean your face you glance at Sun. It- no probably he, is sitting attentive across of you. Back straight and hands on his lap as white eyes stare intensely at you "Well judging that you don't have red eyes staring at my soul I will take that as a yes".
You proceed to make smalltalk with Sun. Asking why and how the lights are working when the plex is a good two decades abandoned and telling him what your job is. Sometimes you catch him tapping against the padded floor, or building little stone towers what answers your previous question. After some time you start talking about your prothestic arm, finally finished with cleaning the wounds you were aware of. You tell him how you had to learn the hard way that people dont care about reasons sometimes, just acting blindly and not think about the consequences.
Time passes as you talk about just anything, voice now hoarse due to being choked earlier. You're sure there would be marks the next time you'll look into a mirror. The other wounds are halfway forgotten, after bandaging your neck there wasn't enough cloth to tend to the rest, as long as the pain is tolerable you don't really care.
"So, what do you do for fun around here Sunny?" you hold the plush, originally for sun, between your hands. Feeling restless yourself for some rason, maybe you dont want the lights to go out. Or because of the Sun themed robot walking around you.
"We sometimes throw stuff at Eddy. He's our camp mascot. A scarecrow, really nice. Doesn't complain" sighing you take the arm of the plush in your hand, aware of the gaze you are under and that Sun shuffles around you for a good two minutes now, still trying to stay out of your reach. He's probably debating if it would be safe to come near you. On the other hand, if he hadn't he wouldn't be here you figured.
The noise of his footsteps stop right behind you and you suddenly feel uncomfortably small as the looming shadow of Sun stands there. His joints creak as he seems to squat down, you let him be, allowing him to infiltrate your personal bubble. He's probably curious about seeing an actual human after so long, maybe he needs some physical contact.
Another sight escapes you at the tought of you being comfortable around a machine, the noise causes Sun to flinch back, tilding his head warily at you before coming closer once again.
"Man...I already trust you dont I? Jeez...that's scary" nodding slightly you hope he takes your word as confirmation that you don't want to harm him.
A firm yelp leaves your mouth as something suddenly touches your neck, your body demands to duck away and you do just that. Low fizzles come from beside you before Sun's presence is right behind you again. Keep calm, he's just trying to figure out if your a threat or not...probably.
Sitting tense as the robot runs his hand carefully across the bandaged skin you wait for him to finish.
Sun makes soft static noises, you can feel him leaning closer ever so slightly what causes the fine hair on your neck to stand. You never let anyone this close to you, it feels odd but the gentle touch somehow calms you.
His hands retreat from your neck and you let out a breath of relief before flinching as said hand is placed atop your head, combing through your hair but avoiding the spot where you slammed against the rubble.
Alright, you will allow him to touch your body a bit...as long as he remains careful. Admitting to yourself that you already feel comfortable enough around him.
His hand stops combing through your hair and he moves beside you, looking at your prosthetic arm and then to you as if questioning if he were allowed to touch it. You stare at the metal arm, it did its job protecting you from Moon and it was very well visible with how deep the marks run. A soft touch on your shoulder let you look up "Sure, go ahead" looking back down you watch as Sun's hand pokes the metal on random spots. As he pokes your palm you grab his finger. Startling the poor robot in the process and he stumbles backwards with static fizzle, he looses his balance and falls to the ground.
"Sorry Sunny" you chuckle at him, a huff like noise chimes at you and he sits back up to investigate the arm again. You grin. Getting bolder arent we?
He loses interest in it soon enough and is on your other hand, taking your fingers and playing with them. His smile is content, well as content as a comstant smile can be, amusing himself with the way your fingers bend.
He is still careful you notice, looking up at you from time to time to confirm he doesnt hurt you, at least that's what you think. Everytime he does you shake you head, giving him an eye closed smile.
Putting your hand down he moves closer to you, staring at your face. You avoid his gaze, turning your head slightly and are surprised as he takes your chin to move it back toward him. "Comfortable enough to look at me?" he freezes, eyes meeting yours and his hand twitches in response. he the slowly nods his head, continuing to study your face.
A smile spreads across your face, this is the first time he answered you. Tons of questions pop up in your head and you squirm in exitment at the thought of talking with him. At least in a way he can. You have no problem with asking yes or no questions.
Sun takes your movement the wrong way and instantly let go, thinking he may have hurt you.
You blink confused before reaching out to grab his hand "No, no its alright big guy. I was just exited that you actually answered me! That you can understand me" Sun looks at your hand and slowly closes his own around it, shaking it slowly.
You giggle "Yes, its nice to meet you Sun!" he tilds his head, rotating it slowly, eyes back at your face and you let go of his hand, turning around so you can face him and he has enough room to just reach out to touch you "There, all yours again. Have fun".
He leans forward and takes your face with both hands, you take the opportunity to relax your head so he has to hold its weight. Sun doesn't seem very bothered by it, eyes narrowing as he inspects the scratch across your cheek. He nudges it gently and waits for your reaction. He doesnt do it again after seeing how you bite onto your lips.
Doing what he thinks is best he pats your head, holding your face secure in the other. Then his face closes in and he shoos the pain away with a kiss, like he did with the children countless times.
You snort at the sound coming from his voicebox and how he bonks his faceplate against your cheek, ever so gently of course.
Sun takes his time to study the way you smile and how delighted your voice sounds as he kisses the wound again. It has been an awfully long time since he was able to do what he was programmed for, no children came to the daycare in so long. Both were very, very lonely.
As he kisses the scratch a third time Sun finds your hands in his face. Pushing him away as you smile up at the robot "Thanks Sunny, but that's enough" he nods, feeling a little disappointed but happy that someone is with him at long last...he only has to tell Moon to leave them alone, he doesn't want to wake up to another red mess.
He sits back down as his eyes trail down your torso and the robot frowns as he notices a familiar looking red stain in the fabric above your stomach. Sun moves closer to you and lifts your shirt "Hey!" he flinches a you squeak at him, his hand getting swatted away, he watches as you hold down your shirt. "That is a big no from me!" he tilds his head not understanding why he isn't allowed to inspect the wound. "Dont look at me like that, but i don't feel comfortable getting touched there do you understand?" Sun looks at the blood and then back up to you, were you not aware of the wound?
"Nod if you understand" he perks up at your serious tone and eagerly nods at you. A smile forms on your lips, relieved that he seems to recognize your boundaries as you reach out to grab his hand "Good, thank you" while Sun watches you inspecting his hand his gaze flickers towards one of the cabinets. Somewhere in there should be a first aid kit, he is itching to bring it over. There are warning windows at the corners of his vision, informing him of the obvious.
Removing his hand from yours he rises to his feet, his joints creaking as he strides over to the cabinet.
"?" you watch him, a little perplexed but then again he can go wherever he wants to. Maybe he'd like to play a game?
Your eyes widen as you see the first aid kid in his hands, it's a small box bombarded with stickers. That was one of the fewer things you were expecting.
He makes his way back to you, holding it in both of his hands to make sure you can see it. The robot squats down and brings the small box into reach, you make a grab for it .
Sun however retreats his hand immediately and your akwardly grab into air, you look up at him lifting a brow. Well that was a little embarassing, he didn't need to do that.
The robot points at himself and then toward you, finger gently tapping your head. You huff and shoo his finger away, groaning outwardly as you find little resistance inside to stop him.
"Fine!" you mumble frustrated, you're getting awfully comfortable around Sun. He clasps his hands together in visible exitement and sways from one side to the other as he places himself in front of you. Smiling at how adorable it looks you roll your eyes, yeah you definitely had a soft spot for him.
Sun starts patching you up without hesitation, his movements fast and fluid as he places a big bandaid on your cheek patting it with a content hum and then moving to your leg, your thigh to be exact. Mister moonman left a nasty scratch there.
Before he even extends his hand however he halts, looking up to make sure you are ok with that. You meet his eyes and nod, patting his head to encourage him, he continues.
After a short while of silence you decide to ask a question that's been nagging you for a while now.
"Sunny?" he emits a static noise and takes hold of your shoulders, having just finished the bandage around your leg. "Do you feel pain? Like, did it really hurt as I got you out of the rubble or was it just your programming?" he stills and his grip on your shoulders grows stronger, than he takes hold of your hand and draws a sad smile on it. Placing his head on yours with a static fizzle of his voice box.
Your stomach drops but you decide to ask again "Really? Do you know what pain is?" he glances up to you, bringing his hands up to press your own against his face, he nods. You frown at him observing how he snuggles into your hand, is he really sentient? He sure seems affectionate for a robot and your parents often told you that there was technology out there beyond your imagination. But sentience...
Does that mean he is aware of the time he spend alone? Was Fazbear Entertainment aware of that when building him? You exhale and give Sun's hand a gentle squeeze, it doesn't seem you would get those answers anytime soon anyway and Sun had priority here.
"One moment big guy" you remove your hand from his face and scoot closer until you sit beside him, smiling as he rotates his head toward you and his upper body lazily follows. "Did you ever leave this bulding?" he shakes his head, his hands lowering in the air as if waiting to grab something.
"Oh...all alone then huh?" he nods "I'm sorry about that..." you reach for his arm and akwardly pat it, soon settling for the lower half as there is still some casing left. You rub little circles across it and feel how Sun's faceplate snuggles into you neck, his free hand carefully snaking around your middle section so he can pull you closer until your back meets his chest, he relaxes visibly and you too feel calmer.
Leaning into him your eyes fall close. You felt oddly...safe and comforted. Ok, maybe his casing was a little hard but there is something about the way he snuggles up to you that leaves you all warm and fuzzy. The whirring behind his casing a welcoming background noise.
A content sigh leaves your lips. Would your parents mind if you brought him back with you? You certainly wouldn't.
...
"-" a static buzz sounds behind you and Sun removes his face from your neck, a low, tired grumble escapes you as he pulls away. He moves you from his lap to the padded floor what leaves you a little dissapointed.
You were just about to doze off and he had to move just then...oh well, a peacefull sleep would have to wait anyway.
Opening your eyes you watch as Sun shuffles in front of you and looks for a long second, he seemed wide awake unlike you who just startled out of a light snooze.
He approaches you, looking at you a little too cautiously but your tired brain is busy coordinating your thoughts through a hazy head, that is until you feel your shirt being lifted.
"Sun!" jerking back from the robot you fall flat on your back, he tilts his head before moving closer, gaze set on your shirt.
"Hey, hey hey! Big guy stop it!" he halts but you don't stop crawling away from him on your elbows "We agreed on no touching there" settling with a firm tone you adress the prior agreement to him.
He just looks at you, not responding, did he forget? Maybe his memory was damaged.
Your thoughts come to an halt as he sits up and slowly bends over, his head doing a little spin and halting in an unnnerving angle. He grins down on you. Much like Moon had before.
"Sun!" you growl, not moving anymore. "I mean it, you promised"
he doesn't answer and starts moving again, hands stretched outward.
In a slight rush of panic you involuntarily freeze, he reminds you a little too much of the lunar robot.
You come to your senses seconds later, a little too late.
Sun grabs you ankles and pulls you towards him, a startled yelp escaping your throat as your back skids across the patted floor. In a matter of seconds he traps your lower body underneath his own, much like moon did and you frantically try to get away. Mind wandering to the unpleasant events ealier.
The thought that the solar robot only pretendet to be scared, so he could lure you in a false sense of security crosses your mind. You whine at the that, if so it worked out perfectly in his favor. Ignoring the sting in your chest you try to avoid the big hand to no avail.
Sun ultimatively pins your hands above your head, grinning down at you as you try to squirm out if his hold. Your breath hitches in fear as his face comes closer with a distorted warble, vision blurring together as tears sting in your eyes.
You promptly close them shut and draw a sharp breath to braze yourself. Any second now, any second and you would be dead for good.
Nothing happens.
perplexed but feeling a silent wave of relief washing over you, you carefullg open your eyes to find the solar robot staring you down. You were sure if he could he would make a face at you.
You swallow hard, mouth opening to say something but no words tumble out, closing it you direct your gaze to the side. Your heart is still hammering inside your chest as a single tear makes its way down your cheek. You lost it for a moment there.
Sun let's go of your arms, a soft, almost sad buzzing leaving his voicebox as he sits up, not releasig your legs you notice.
Eyes now directed at the robot you relax and draw a long sigh, hands over your eyes and shuttting them tight once again.
"Not cool sun" you manage to say and glare at him. Surprised at how steady your voice sounds. Sun averts his eyes and shrinks into himself, head hanging low in shame while he anxiously fumbles with his fingers. After a row of controlled breaths you prop yourself on your elbows and look at him.
"What the hell was that?" The tension slowly leaves your trembling body "I thought I made myself clear as I said no touching there" his head jerks up and you flinch slightly as his hands move forward in the same manner. He stops himself and draws them back, giving a few upset chirps that are clearly directed toward you.
"Excuse me, I dont think you have a reason to be upset at me" huffing and crossing your arms you narrow your eyes at him, before shaking your head with a groan. Another of those heart stopping actions and you were sure you wouldn't be able to keep it together.
A static fizzle escapes his chest you turn back wit a raised brow, at least he looks genuinely sorry...with the way he clutches his hands.
Patting his leg to signal he can get up and release you now you wait.
He however doesn't move.
Frowing you say the robots name, thinking he drifted off into his own thoughts, but he doesn't answer. You furrow your brows and call out to him again "Sun?" still no reaction, not even a slight noise from his ever whirring chest. Ok, the robot managed to get you worried.
The slightest hint of panic shoot through you as you see his empty eyes who are directed at you...they somehowe managed to fade to an unnerving black. "Ah shit, dont tell me your-" he unexpectedly leans forward and you flinch back, cutting the sentence short.
As you notice however that he is falling, and you really dont want to get crushed by a heavy robot, you start calling his name.
Just like the times before he still doesn't react, so you use your arms to stop his fall in any way possible. Grunting at the much too heavy weight slamming against you, an attempt is made to stay half propped but your back quickly reminds you that your spine won't do well with all the weight on it.
"Your heavy buddy" the faint sound of one of Sun's joints causes you to look from his chest up to his face, with a growl you see his neck slumping forward, and unless you dont want his rays piercing any part of your skull his metal ass better wake up.
"Sun! Sunnyboy now would be a really good time to wake the fuck up!" you nearly screech as his face closes in, the broken edges of his rays approaching way too fast. Shielding at least your eyes with your artifical arm the weight of his body becomes too much for the other, still supporting his weight, and the limb buckles away.
Your head makes contact with the padded floor sending a new wave of pain through your body, choking back a whimper you curl into yourself as much as possible to evade Sun's head.
There is a sudden creak arund you and Sun's body comes to a halt, you don't feel his head making impact with you. You only hear a long static fizzle as he moves away.
You exhale and relax your tense body while Sun is up and about emitting static chirps and buzzes to get you attention.
You're not in the right mindstate to deal with him right now and wave him off, barely noticing how quick he grows still. As you do however you flash him what you think is a small smile before closing your eyes to focus on breathing, your heart is hammering painfully in your chest.
That's the third time you felt your life flash before your eyes. All in one night, that should be a new record but honestly? It feels like too much and you don't find the usual energy to play it down.
You flinch and open your eyes as somethig touches your back, right in time to see Sun reel his hand back and lower his head as to not look at you.
Oh, he was trying to comfort you huh? You'd like to tell him that its ok and you dont mind, but once again you don't find the energy to do that. So you just close you eyes again, head leaning against the padded floor as you continue calming yourself.
It takes longer than usual to calm down but you eventually manage to get your heartbeat back to regular.
Sighing you curl into yourself as dull but pulsing waves of pain run through your body. There is the almost overwhelming urge to sleep and you knew your body was more than ready to do so, the only thing stopping you from doing so is the thought of the stabbing pain that will settle in your arm once you reach a certain point of relaxation.
Another sigh escapes you, whatever. This will be added to the pile of stuff to think about later, just like almost everything today.
Steeling yourself you turn around and look for sun, you spot him sitting a few feet away from you. He stares in your direction, hands fumbling with the first aid kit, he stops his movements as he notices you sitting up.
"Hey Sunny" you greet meekly, your voice sounds horrible hoarse and you quikly clear your throat. He tilts his head and then stretches his hands out toward you, making grabbing motions albeit his face is now directed to his lap. A strained chuckle escapes you and with a groan you make it to your feet, your body really shouldn't feel so heavy right now.
His hands are on your hips the second you step into his range of motion and with one swift movement you sit on his lap. Blinking up at him you start to settle against his chest, he sqints his eyes and pokes your head with the most accusing static fizzle you ever heard.
"Not right now Sun" he huffs and then gently pushes your shoulders down so that you are now lying in his lap with one of his hands on your thigh, covering half the lenght with the limb. You stare at it, interesting. He then turns his head to grab something, not before throwing a darker rumble at you.
You frown up at him and answer with the next best thing that comes to your mind "I'm not tired". His movement halts and he turns to look at you, doubtful and very much unimpressed. Again, too much expression for a robot.
"Nevermind that" he huffs at you and rolls his eyes but doesn't push further so you decide to adress the matter with him going limb back then. it worried you a tad too much.
"Are you alright though? Why did you suddenly- uhm..." searching for the right word one of your fingers taps against his chest "...faint?" it's the best you can describe it. Is there a seperate meaning for that? Heck if you knew, but you are no mechanical and the most you did was using a walkie talkie.
Looking up at him expectantly he hesitates, his white pupils darting from your face to the ground and than back to you before immediately darting away. His hand on your thigh grips the flesh a little tighter and then realeases it, only to repeat the movement again and again. You don't mind but boy is this guy one anxiety ridden wreck.
"I do like to know. It worries me" shrugging you watch as his hand gives your thigh one last squeeze to move to the permanent grin on his face. A soft noise akin to a gasp coming out from his voicebox.
"Yes, yes. I care about you" smiling at him you continue "We had kind of a rough start but you're nice to be around" you gently touch his arm, he doesn't flinch back and you take that as an invitation to pull it closer to you "Also...I feel bad leaving you here...christ your sentient!!" huffing in annoyance you continue your rambling "Who had the genius idea to make you sentient and then leave you alone for years to-" he pushes his face against your cheek, one of his hands back to squeeze your thigh.
Touchy subject, noted, you should have figured.
"Sorry, sorry but it makes me so mad! I mean, c'mon dude thats not cool!" he doesnt answer but a pitiful small whine comes from him. Oh lord how your heart clenches in sympathy, whoever dared to do that to him, you were more than ready to throw hands.
"C'mon here buddy" sitting upright you give him a hug, squeezing him so tight his casing starts to feel rather uncomftable. He doesn't move and you look up to see him stare at you, good. At least he's still with you.
"A hug, you know what that is" opening your arms wide his eyes wander to the side, his body leaning away from you but his hands very clearly searching for physical touch. Where does this sudden hesitation come from all of a sudden? A fun idea pops into mind and you grin.
"Sun?" turning his head he refuses to look at you.
"Sunny? Sunny boy?" leaning closer he bends even further away, you chuckle as you see how much he struggles to keep his hands to himself.
"Hmmm~" humming you follow his body and soon enough he lies on the padded floor with you hovering above him and grinning knowingly while static fizzles escape the voicebox inside of him.
At long last you start to laugh, ignoring the waves of pain that rattle trough your body. He is terrible at hiding what he wants, his hands are practically twitching, even if he grabs the floor tight to stop it.
"Dearest you are terrible at hiding how bad you want a hug" with a snort you sit atop his chest and trace the circles on it. His body trembles under your touch but he still avoids your eyes "Sun, I'm not mad at you. I'm pretty sure going limp wasn't on you agenda today" he still hesitates and glances toward you, seemingly scanning your body for something before turing his head a good 180 and facing the floor.
"You won't hurt me" if he was avoiding the hug because he was scared of hurting you he really doesn't have to. He touched you plenty in such a short span of time and was so utmost careful and anxious doing so, it gave you a feeling of warmth.
You barely had a chance to relax back in your settlement, always up and about to keep yourself busy. Being in the presence of someone who could make you feel calm and safe like Sun is a first and something you definitely don't want to lose. You'd like to treat him the same in return, maybe even somehow making him feel like he did when kids swarmed him. He probably had tons of games somewhere.
"I trust you. I really, really trust you Sun" gently tugging at one of his rays he reluctantly rotates his face so you can properly look at him. Smiling your hands reach for the cool metal and once you hold it between your hands you brush your thumbs across his cheeks "You can touch me, I will tell you when I feel uncomfortable" the motors in his chest start humming and a sound akin to a fan kicks in "Unless your uncomfortable with me touching you" retreating your hands you sit straight again "Then I will respect that".
He continues to stare before his head gently shakes from on side to the other. A deep, artifical sigh leaving his voicebox before he carefully sits up and you skid into his lap with both of your legs meekly resting around his waist.
"Hug?" spreading your arms once again he nods almost shyly before you stick to him. Not planning on letting go anytime soon.
His hands settles on your back and adjust a little so that one rests on the upper half and the other on your waist. Rubbing his back to encourage the celestial robot he gently presses you against him before his arms tighten around you and he curls into himself. Efficiently trapping you in the embrace,
You let your body relax once more. Stroking his back and beginning to hum a random melodie popping into mind.
The two of you stay like this foor a good while.
Sun started to rock back and forth in an attempt to calm himself and accept the kindess of this human. He had a hard time doing so, he feels terrible holding them and felt even worse patching up the wounds Moon left.
The creacking of his neck chimes rather loudly in the empty daycare, or it was just him thinking that. Either way, Sun takes a note to oil it later before his eyes rest upon you. You appear smaller, somehow...tired and vulnerable. Was it just the way you were curled up to him?
No. he quickly correct himself and pats your head, tilting his own curious as you close your eyes to enjoy the touch. You were tired and you were hurt, plus he seemed to have given you quite a fright too. Were you in pain? You most likely were, those wounds have to hurt.
Speaking of which...Sun's gaze glides to the first aid kit and then back to you. Squinting at your form as if making a silent war declaration he reaches for the white box while prying your arms off of him and ignoring the noise of protest you make.
His system was screaming at him to tend to the wound and he was unsure how much longer he could patiently wait for you to notice. You seemed to be very bad at taking care of yourself. Who could casually ignore and not notice the very obvious blood stain on their shirt?
Brazing himself to be turned down again he looks back at you. Determined to patch you up.
You eye him warily but allow for his hand to grab your own.
Guiding it toward the hem of your shirt Sun waits for a reaction from you but finds your narrowed gaze set on his face. No, no you should look at your shirt not his face! What is it with you not looking at your own body and noticing the need of it?
A series of upset chirps escape his voicebox at the sound of your displeased voice. For fizzy fazs sake would you please look at your blood stained shirt?!
Grabbing your face he directs your gaze toward the shirt rather forcefully, easing his grip as a whimper raches him. But soon a noise akin to a hum leaves you and he lets go of your face. At long last you noticed. Good job him!
Content he shoves the first aid into your hands, if he wasn't allowed to touch you there he would make sure you at least managed to do a good job at bandaging.
You sigh and pat his shoulder, not liking the way you shift his hands are at your waist, pushing you downward. He wont allow this human to leave his lap, not until he saw with his own eyes that you were fixed.
"...you won't let me go won't you?" pleased that the message was delivered right he beeps happily, squeezing your waist what elicts a funny squeak from you and shortly after an upset huff.
Sun didn't mind the annoyed look directed at him, it sounded adorable. He would like to hear it again but your wound had first priority! He would make sure.
"Alright, will you at least look away?" look away? He didnt like the idea. How would he make sure you did the right thing if he wasn't able to see? Shaking his head he observes how your shoulders slump and your fingers fumble with the shirt.
Tilting his head to the right his processors start to analyse your reaction. Squinting as no clear result but static fills his sensors he tilts his head to the left.
Nervous? Why were you nervous?
Bringing his hand up to cup your cheek he studies the pale face of the human in front of him. You seemed indeed nervous, avoiding eye contact even if he brought is face right up to yours.
"?" a confused chirp leaves his voicebox, the robot is ashamed to admit it but he can't deduct a clear result. You where nervous, but why? His programming won't allow the daycare attentand to figure it out. Blank text windows show themselves if he tries too hard and they jump all over the place when he feels like he is close to figuring it out.
Giving up for the moment his attention lies upon you once again, your small form still displaying that you were nervous and uncomfortable. His circuits twist uncomfortably at the sight of you nervous around him, he should let you go, he won't be of any help like this ans he doesn't want to scare you away.
A soft fizzle of static buzzing gets your attention and Sun nuzzles your cheek before removing you from his lap. You almost groan from the pain while your body stiffens in respone. Another soft buzz sounds and the yellow robot tilts his head, shoving the first aid kit into your hands before turning around and walking away. Settling between rubbles and tables.
Relaxing your tense shoulders and a deep breath later you quickly start to work on your stomach, lifting the shirt and putting the hem of it in between your theeth.
"Shallow..." you mumble a litte absent, focused as you dab the still damp cloth over the cuts. They weren't deep, in fact they seemed to be the only superficial wounds you had. Still, it bled quiet a bit. If anyone beside you had to guess on the amount of blood on your shirt they might as well think you were about to bleed out.
Shrugging you find your gaze wandering toward Sun. It filled you with relief that he seemed to finally understand how uncomfotable you were with him insisting to help. Not that you would have minded, if it was anything else, Sun is an adorable chunk of sentience. Ridden with anxiety and clearly in need of some love but still adorable with how gentle and toughtfull he was, mostly.
You smile, it's funny how easy it was to let your guard down around him, how good it felt to have someone you were able to relax with.
It bugged you that he suddenly went limp and didn't elaborate further, it was probably due to age. Heck, it was a wonder he still runs and didn't shut down or got crushed like the other bots you found on your way up.
On the other hand, when the lights in this place somehow still work you wouldn't be surprised to see other robots roaming this building...hopefully a little nicer than moon man.
You shudder at the chill running down our back, continuing to bandage the cuts. He would have killed you if not for the lights...how long were they going to stay on? A question you would have to ask Sun as soon as possible.
Completing the task of bandaging the wound you let go of your shirt and stand up. Nice, if only there would be painkillers liyng around somewhere. Shaking your head you sigh, pain was something your body was used to and the wounds only hurt so much becuse you were in dire need of sleep...
Well, time to go to sunshine!
"I'm done Sun! Did a pretty good job too!" his head rotates 180 degree, creaking in a way that must feel uncomfortable before giving you a thumbs up. With a grin you settle beside him "Mind if I join you?" he shakes his head, gesturing at the colorful pencils and papers across the table.
"Thanks sunshine!" grabbing a red colored paper and a few pencils you wink at him, earning a confused beep. "Wanna do a drawing competition? I draw you and you me" he stares for a second then starts nodding so fast you fear his head will come loose.
A mechanical clunk and a static whine follows, you notice his rays are jerking from side to side as if they wanted to move but couldn't. They quickly stop and he huffs, grabbing a pencil with a little too much force. Doing the same you start drawing a circle.
The next ten minuntes fly by, talking about something random again you manage to tickle a few answers out of Sun in form of nods and beeps. Turns out he and Moon both ran the daycare.
The lunar robot was apparently in charge of nap and storytime. You had a hard time believing that, it doesn't sound like anything you saw and felt so far, unless the equivelent of putting someone to sleep means killing them. This he had almost done. Sun furiously beeped at that, you were unsure if he agreed with you or tried to defend his lunar counterpart, so the topic as dropped and you talked about your family.
"My grandparents always treat me like im some child. I know they mean well but it's weird" looking up at Sun he nods, squinting a bit before his grin seems to stretch in amusement.
"What?" he neatly puts down his pen and rotates his torso toward you, putting thumb an index finger close so that they almost touch whilst looking at you...
"Your just very tall" is all that leaves your mouth, he rolls his eyes and waves you off. Snickering into his hand. Scoffing at that you playfully punch his shoulder with your artifical arm "Your an ass" he instantly stops to pretend to snicker and starts tutting at you, in an upset way.
"Ass?" cocking a brow the word falls again and you find his metal hand over you mouth, his face awfully close while he frowns down at you.
intersting, no bad language in the daycare it seems.
Slowly nodding at Sun he gives you one last doubtful squint before pulling away and grabbing the piece of paper, holding it in front of him. "What is it?" he points at you and then tilts his head in a quizzical way, tapping the blank space above a small arrow he made.
"Uh..." unsure what he means you shrug and earn a deep frown. He seems to think before grabbing another paper and schribbling a few, surpringly neat, letters on it. Presenting it to you.
-Name?- it read.
"Oh" is all that leaves your mouth, he can write. Of course he could write, why didn't you think of that sooner? You quickly clear your throat to focus back on Sun "I didn't introduce myself did I?" he shakes his head, clasping his hands in front of his chest and swaying from side to side as static garble leaves his voicebox. It sounds like happy gibberish.
"Alright sunnyboy!" leaning heavily against the table you get up. Standing straight and slowly bowing down toward Sun in the most princely manner you can muster, telling him your name with a grin.
His head rotates happily, the broken and bend rays swaying ever so gently when he halts to pat his lap. Chuckling you lower yourself and carefully arrange yor legs so you lean cross legged against him. Taking care that the pain from your wounds are tolerable.
"You can call me Bucky too, at least lot of people call me that back home" he hums while scribbling down your name, putting the nickname in brackets behind.
Deciding to do the same you snatch the drawing you did and shield it with your body, so he doesn't see it just yet. Sun's neck squeaks suspiciously.
"No peeking" he huffs, probably indicating that you already saw his. The tought of him pouting, which you were sure he did, causes your alrady present smile to grow.
"Ta-da!" grinning up at him you practically shove the paper into his face. Taking it with two fingers Sun holds it a little further away and stares. Letting him be you decide to get a better look at the one he drew of you, however his hand suddenly covering your eyes avoids just that.
"Alright, you can-" wheezing your sentence gets cut short by a bone crushing hug and Sun's cool face in your neck. You would've happily returned the hug if not for the pain shooting through you body.
"Buddy-" biting down on your lip to prevent a whine from slipping you pat the robots arms wrapped around your torso "Maybe loosen up a little?" it comes out pressed and high pitched "Your crushing me" the last words are a mere squeak.
Sun eases his grip on you and almost jerks back. Reminding himself that any sudden movement will tear at the wounds. So the robot settles with his arms laying loosely around your form. He doesn't move much further, giving an apologetically sounding peep.
A sigh escapes you as the pain finally abates.
Seems like sunnyboy cant really reguate his strength if exicted.
"Thank you. I guess you liked my drawing then?" he hums, snuggling his face further into your neck and making a noise akin to a kiss.
You shudder at the foreign feeling, it almost felt like he gave you an actual kiss. Goosebumps start to cover your arms as you automatically duck away.
A whine sounds from behind and your drawn back into the hug, Sun's face once again in your neck. another shudder runs through your body, the feeling a little too overwheling and hard to describe, it's strong enough to squirm out of Sun's hold. Leaving him confusd and dissapointed.
Rubbing your arms to get rid of the weird shudder you turn to Sun. His fingers anxoiusly bending this way and the other.
"No, you didnt hurt me Sun" sighing you wonder just how much this phrase will be said tonight. I mean, you knew him for maybe almost an hour or two and it was a miracle he opened up at all and didn't tear you apart like his counterpart planned.
"It just felt...funny?" patting his had you decide to bring the attention back to his drawing "Wanna show me your drawing? I bet it looks better now since it has my name on it" perking up he nods, turning his head to the table so he can pick up the piece of paper and show it to you.
Holding it proudly out toward you a grin stretches across your face, he draws like a child. Not that it's bad! It looks cute.
You carefully take the drawing, making sure to inspect every single line on it.
The slightly egg shaped head with two dots for the eyes and a half finished triangular to symbolize the nose. Big boots and fully colored clothes, he even drew the banages on your body, decortaing them with small clovers and hearts that sends a fuzzy feeling through your stomach. There is a small whisper telling you to cherish this moment.
Looking back up at Sun you reach for his face and pull it down toward you to carefully bonk his head, he closes his eyes and leans in.
"I love it" quiet chirps leave his chest and his hands come to rest on your hips, pulling you closer. Smiling you give in and hug his head so he can rest it on your chest while holding you close.
"..." there are words at the tip of your tounge but you feels like they would ruin the mood so you close your mouth again. Instead caressing his face and tracing the outline of the crescent moon, then move to the small swirls on his cheeks what causes him to lean further into you.
The way he does it reminds you of how a cat melts against you when you give them what they want, when you scratch just the right spot behind their ears and then move under their chin. They would end up as a purring mass of floof still awaiting more.
"Cuddlebug" chuckling you stop tracing the outlines of his face, there is a slight layer of grime on your finger and that feels kind of gross. Upon further inspections the conclusion is drawn that he needs a bath. Sun is really, really dirty and it buggs you enough to want to take initative.
Another thing for future you to take care of. For now the yellow robot will get all the cuddles and comfort he needs and deserves.
"A question sunny" he humms into you, nudging his face against yours and gently guiding your hand to his cheeks "How long do the lights stay on?" he stiffens against you and the grip on your uninjured thigh, you only notice that now, grows harder, almost painful.
"I kinda need to know" you softly peel his hand from your thigh and hold it with your artifical one "Don't want moonman to catch me" Sun's rays retract, three of them still sticking out by the end of the process. He doenst seem comfortable with the question and turns his head slightly away from you.
"Nu-uh dearest! I need an answer!" he halts at your tutting, whining after looking you into the eye and realize he does owe you that much.
So, with a heavy sigh, he takes paper and pen. Letting go of the hand that grounded him.
Tilting your head curiously at the neat letters you raise a brow "1 to 2 hours?" he nods and writes a few letters more, you read them before he can finish. "Then switch?"he nods once again, his rays slowy peeking out of his head. "Ok so moon has up to 2 hours after the lights are off..." he taps the paper and you read he rest of the letters "When it turns midnight? So in the day it's only you?" with the third nod he places the pen neatly beside the paper and looks up to you, expecting more questions.
Grunting you look around the daycare, there isn't much more to defend yourself with, the lunar robot probably knows this place like the back of his mind...and you didnt actually try to do your job. Instead cuddling and tending to sun...
Pushing your heavy body upward and therefore leaving suns lap you stretch your limbs, carefull as to not provoke any more pain. How much time did you spend with Sun? It has to be two hours already...better hurry and find a safe hiding spot. You can return after another two hours.
Its decided then.
Clapping your hands together to get his attention, that you already have, you open your mouth "Here's the plan Sunny. I'll go hide and come back after-" a loud thud startles you out of your rambling and you find that the robot landed face first on the table.
-Clunk-
The lights flicker for a second, growing dim for a moment before glowing brigh again...only to grow dark a second later, leaving you with a sinking feeling in your stomach. Twisting and turning the organ in a way that screams at you to start running.
