Work Text:
“Saul, are you there?” Vince asks behind the door of Saul’s office. It was very unlike of his friend to not respond with a hum or, anything, really. Maybe he’s cleaning up? The black haired boy waited patiently, not wanting to make Saul rush or anything, he needs to take his time after what happened.
Minutes passed by, worry started to rise within Vince’s stomach, “Saul?” He asks once again, still not getting a response. Sighing, he had to go with the last option that he really didn’t want to do. Grabbing his keycard from his pocket, he inserts it into the keycard reader, a ding was alerted before the green doors creaked open.
”Saul?”
The short scientist takes a step inside, his eyes analyzing the quite basic room; a desk, chair, and other simple furniture that fits an office. But no Saul to be found.
A nervous frown appears on Vince’s lips, his fingers rubbing against each other as a form of anxiousness, a drop of sweat rolling down the curve of his forehead.
“I asked him I’ll meet him in his office…was he scared to get out of my office?” Then, at that moment, he got a theory.
BanBan…
Of course, maybe Saul felt estranged by the company of BanBan! Uh oh.
Vince exits Saul’s office when realization hit him on the face, the door shutting echoed with the footsteps of Vince’s run.
What was I thinking? Leaving Saul with BanBan?! After what happened, I should’ve known better than to let that happen. God, I really am an oblivious, dumb, clueless deer!
“How’s the chocolate cake?”
”Pretty…moist. I do like it that way, though. It also has a rich flavor to it. At my age, I shouldn’t even be eating this.” Saul cackles at his own joke, breathing in when the red mascot didn’t try to fake laugh. “Who made this? Was it you?”
”Oh, gosh no. Vince makes it, with something? I do not know a lot about how he makes these cakes, all I know is he enjoys making them. He hates sharing this cake…and the human lifestyle, which hurts a bit.” BanBan answers the older male, his voice bored as ever. “Hm. I understand that. He’s changed a lot with me though, personally I believe I changed him!” Saul confidently exclaims, ignoring the way BanBan’s tongue disappears into his mouth, strange. “He and I go way back. I was his mentor when he got the job to work here. He’s a rather impressive scientist. He was one of the scientists to create NabNaleena, though he never got the chance to get closer to the project of giving her life.”
”I know that.”
”Of course you do.”
Saul chuckles under his breathe, side-eying the red mascot before scoffing. “I’m honestly shocked Vince hasn’t ran away from you. You look quite intimidating—except for when you show your signature smile.”
”I’m surprised you haven’t tried doing that, then.”
”You got me there, you know, you’re just like Vince. Boring yet mysterious, yada-yada.”
…
Saul takes the opportunity to observe the red Devil, he seems a bit, tense?
“Glad you decided to stay here, BanBan.”
”It wasn’t my choice. I stay in Vince’s office until I am called to help with any of the other mascots.”
“Ouch!”
Saul placed his hand to his heart, a look of pain tearing onto his face, jokingly. “You’re very straight-forward, BanBan.” The older male smiles at the mascot, missing the way BanBan looked like he was gonna ask a question. “How long do you think Vince will be away?”
”Not long, he always rushes with his reports, which is the reason he gets called on several times a day. He never learns from his mistakes.”
”But…what he’s in for…it’s different.”
”…I guess so.”
Saul takes a good look at BanBan, impulsively asking without his own permission, “Do you understand how we feel? After what had happened, with NabNab?”
BanBan shared the look to Saul’s hazel eyes.
…
”I do. Vince and me…I feel attached to him, in a way. Whenever he or I have to go, I always feel a pang of pain grow inside me. It could possibly be the reason that…something about me, acts up. If I were to lose Vince, I’d lose myself. Not many of the other scientists trust me. I’m sure even you’d agree that I shouldn’t even be this close to you—that I should be detained and locked away; like NabNab.”
Saul’s eyebrows had risen from the speech BanBan gave, not expecting such a long answer that distinctively explained some of the two’s friendship together.
”I…don’t exactly know what you are capable of. What I do know is that you haven’t tried hurting Vince, physically or anything like that. So, if Vince trusts his life to be near you, then so can I.” The older scientist smiles at BanBan, trying his best to trust the mascot, perhaps not all of them are terrible and out for blood. Saul watches BanBan closely, and from the way BanBan’s stature becomes more tense, Saul can tell that the Devil is shocked.
”From that…I believe you’re another scientist I can trust.”
…
”BanBan! Is Saul with you?!”
Saul and BanBan’s attention sharply focus on the door as it loudly creates open, revealing Vince on the other side.
”Oh, Saul! You’re here, I thought you went to your office.” Vince breathes out, clearly exhausted from the running he had to do, stamina isn’t really his thing. Saul chuckles lowly as the short scientist pounces at him to give an embrace. “Yeah…I’m sorry about that, by the way. I didn’t have the balls to get out there…I hope you understand.”
”I do—I’m just glad you’re fine.” Vince sighs, his eyes shifting to Saul then to BanBan. “I..see you and BanBan have spoken.” The young boy grins, hoping that the two got along.
”Yes, we did. It was nice to speak to another human being.” BanBan states out, his lingering eyes moving between the two.
”Heh, you’re really starting to become more open with yourself, BanBan. I’m proud!”
