Work Text:

Chuuya really needed to fix that bad habit. Now.

You see, ever since he could remember, Chuuya’s had a problem. When he was angry, he lashed out, not thinking before talking. Most of the time he said things he didn’t mean, his only instinct being to hurt the person that made him angry, say what he knew would hurt them the most.

He had tried to fix it a couple if times in the past, but his anger always got the better of him. It landed him in some pretty unwanted situations. More then he would like to admit. Despite the many street or bar fights he got in because if it, he had never, in his life, wished he would’ve thought before opening his mouth more than he did in that moment.

He and Dazai had been arguing.

-

Shortly after the events in the prison with Fyodor using Chuuya to try and kill Dazai, the Agency and Port Mafia, having joined forces, managed to stop Fukuchi and return everything to normal.

Dazai and Chuuya had decided it was finally time to talk, sort everything out and see where it goes from there. After the much needed heart to heart, they kept in contact. That meant Dazai would send Chuuya memes and other useless things throughout the day and Chuuya would reply by asking if he had nothing better to do. They bantered, just like before.

After months of hopelessly pining over each other, dazai confessed. He told Chuuya he had been in love with him for quite some time, but he was afraid of ruining things between them. Chuuya was shocked, not having expected Dazai to love him back, but accepted it without complaint and the two started dating.

-

It had been about six months since they started dating. They had arguments before, every couple did, but nothing quite like this. It started over something silly.

When Chuuya came home from work absolutely exhausted, all he wanted was some peace and quiet, but of course, when he had an overgrown child as his partner, that wasn’t possible.

The moment he walked through the door, Dazai was all over him, clinging to his clothes and telling him how much he missed him. Just being his usual self.

Of course he had no ideea yet about how chuuya’s day went and he was usually pretty quiet, dazai just continued whining about Chuuya leaving him alone and not paying attention to him for too long.

Chuuya, in his exhausted state, had all rational thoughts thrown out of his mind and just yelled at dazai to leave him the fuck alone.

Dazai, shocked and not used to just sitting there quietly, yelled back. That was how their yelling match started.

Every time one of them threw an insult, the other one responded with something similar. That was, until Chuuya’s exhaustion and anger made him say something that he would come to regret for weeks to come.

“Can you just shut the fuck up for five fucking minutes!” Chuuya yelled. Even though his brain screamed at him to stop talking, he just kept going. “God, I haven’t had one peaceful moment since we started dating! Are you that fucking incapable of functioning on your own that you have to bother me every moment of the day? It’s no wonder none of your past lovers stuck around”

The moment those words escaped his mouth, Chuuya knew he fucked up. He thought he’d already fixed his problem of talking without thinking, but apparently not.

When he looked towards Dazai, his partner was sitting there, not moving at all. Not even breathing. The only sign that he was somewhat conscious were the tears that were falling down his cheeks.

Now, in their years of knowing each other, Chuuya had never once seen Dazai cry. That was just a reminder of how much he hurt his lover.

“D-Dazai” Chuuya managed to get out. Slowly, he took a step towards dazai, flinching when the brunette took a step back. “I…I don’t…” Chuuya struggled, not knowing how to tell his partner he hadn’t meant what he said.

“I’m so sorry Dazai, I promise i didn’t mean that” Chuuya said, expression open and tone sincere, trying to show Dazai that he truly hadn’t meant to talk to him like that. “Today has just been really stressful, and i know that’s not an excuse for what I said. I bottled everything up and took out my frustration on you, and that’s not fair. Please, i would do anything to prove i didn’t mean ot” Chuuya said, voice turning desperate when dazai still hadn’t said anything.

The room was quiet for a few seconds, the only sound being dazai almost inaudible sobs. Then:

*C-Chuuya really didn’t mean it?” Dazai asked, doubt clear in his voice. It broke Chuuya’s heart.

“I promise i didn’t darling.” Chuuya tried to convince Dazai. The brunette’s breath skipped at the pet name “I’m just stressed, and when I am stressed I say things I don’t actually mean” Chuuya said honestly. This time, when Chuuya took a step towards Dazai, his lover didn’t step back. Hopeful, Chuuya opened his arms, and after a bit of hesitation, Dazai stepped into his embrace.

Chuuya held Dazai as tight as he could without hurting him, whispering reassuringly in his ear. “Shh it’s ok” Chuuya said, as softly as he was capable of. “I promise I’ll make it up to you. I love you so much darling.” After Dazai calmed down, Chuuya offered to get a bath ready for both of them before going to sleep. Dazai agreed, somewhat reassured that Chuuya wouldn’t leave him.

Chuuya knew he had to work for Dazai’s full forgiveness, but it was an effort he was more than willing to make. He loved his partner, after all.

Notes:

I know it’s kinda rushed and dazai doesn’t say much but I hope you enjoyed it!!!
