Work Text:

It was a starry night, one of many.

Emily Elizabeth gazed up at the stars from her bedroom balcony, with Clifford sitting right beside her. They wouldn't have been able to see them if they looked from his big doghouse. It was the first night of summertime, with many possible adventures just beyond the horizon.

Clifford didn't know where these tiny lights in the sky came from, or what they did. He was just happy that Emily Elizabeth loved to see them, especially in the summer. It wasn't too cold and rainy outside, or too warm and sticky either.

The sky was lit up, and if she was happy, he was happy.

Blinking, Emily Elizabeth turned to Clifford, and patted his head. "Thanks for staying up with me, Clifford. The stars are just beautiful this time of night."

Clifford woofed in agreement, nodding.

Emily Elizabeth couldn't help but giggle. "And to think it's just the start of summer, there will be so much to do, so much to see, and we'll see to them. Together."

Clifford wagged his tail, softly but happily, and Emily Elizabeth smiled as they both looked up to see the stars once again, side by side.

Notes:

This was my first time writing for Clifford the Big Red Dog, a favorite childhood show, so forgive me if there are some character inconsistencies.
