Work Text:
Connor was overwhelmed with so many emotions at once, it was hard to identify them all. He listened to the remainder of Markus’ speech as he was standing up on the makeshift podium. Afterwards, Markus thanked each android, once getting to Connor he gently placed a hand on his shoulder.
His thirium pump increased, his stress levels slowly rising. He couldn’t help but remember the gun that was in is hand, aiming at Markus just moments before.
“You truly were remarkable, Connor. But this isn’t over, we still have so much work to do. I invite you to work alongside me, and the other leaders of Jericho. What do you say?” The android with two colored eyes put his hand out to Connor. He forced a smile, his LED flickering yellow for only a second or two. He wouldn’t dare ruin the moment and say what was on his mind.
Instead, he simply nodded. “Of course.. I-I’d be honored to.” He shook the older RK model’s hand. “But first.. there’s someone I need to meet with. I apologize.” He folded his hands together.
Markus shook his head, a smile still on his face. “No need to apologize. Go ahead. I’ll make sure to keep in contact with you.”
Connor nodded. “Thank you. I’ll talk to you soon.” He gave a small wave before walking off.
He decided to send a text to The Lieutenant, conveniently through his built in phone system. He never had to use it since Hank didn’t answer his phone. Up until now apparently, because he almost instantly got a text back. He smiled to himself, the older man seemed to be very worried about him. Apparently, he was still in Detroit and hadn’t evacuated yet. He asked if the other wanted to meet outside of The Chicken Feed, since it wasn’t far from where he was currently.
He got a text confirming that Hank was on the way, so Connor started to head over on foot. Snow began to fall, he instinctively folded his arms as if he was cold.
Somehow, Hank had arrived before Connor. He was waiting, wondering if the android was actually going to show up. He folded his arms as he waited, growing rather inpatient. Finally, he could make out a figure approaching him in the distance. Upon walking up to him, the older man smiled the moment he got a good look at his face. The side of Connor’s lip slowly rose, he couldn’t help but smile back at him.
Hank put his arm around Connor and pulled him into a hug, that gave him the incentive to wrap his arms around him in return, smile growing bigger. He practically buried his face into the man’s shoulder. But within a matter of seconds, he could feel tears welding up behind his eyes. And for the first time ever, the advanced prototype android began to cry. The synthetic tears came pouring down as he shut his eyes tight, instinctively trying to calm himself from this unfamiliar emotions he was experiencing. It started to stain Hank’s jacket, he must’ve felt it because he slowly pulled away from the hug. “Holy shit.. it’s okay son, it’s over now.” He tried his best at comforting him as he brought both thumbs up to wipe away his tears.
Connor let out a small laugh. It was far from over, but he appreciated the comfort the other was trying to give. It still ended up helping him calm down, and the seemingly endless stream of tears were beginning to lessen. “For now.” He sniffled instinctively, it was almost too human-like. “Hank, I thought you would’ve been evacuated by now. Im surprised you’re still in Detroit.”
The older man let out an annoyed grumble and shook his head. “Fuck that. I was worried about you, helping lead a damn revolution and all. And besides, I couldn’t just leave Sumo behind.” He put a hand in his pocket, taking a moment to fish around for something. Finally, he pulled out a small object, it appeared to be Connor’s coin. He had confiscated it a little while back, during their case in the Stratford Tower. “Here ya go kid, I, um.. forget I had this.” He handed it over to him with an amused grin plastered across his face.
“Hmm.. sure you did.” Connor chuckled lightly as he happily took it from him. He held it in the palm of his hand for a moment before putting it back in his pocket. His tears had now fully subsided.
“So, uh.. I’m assuming you have no place to stay? Why don’t you come back and stay with me for a bit.. Sumo would sure like that. Plus I’m freezing my balls off standing out here.” Hank chuckled awkwardly.
Connor sort of liked that idea. Plus, he was both mentally and physically exhausted from the many events that took place today, and was overdue for a recharge. Androids weren’t programmed to feel fatigued, but he couldn’t possibly explain the way he felt as anything else. “I’d like that.” He smiled softly, trying not to show how drained he was.
“Then let’s get outta here.” The Lieutenant turned in the direction to where his car was parked and headed over, Connor following behind him. As the car was unlocked, he got in through the passengers side. The android was happy to be with Hank again.. but the horrid memory of what happened a little while ago still lingered on his mind.
