“We’re gonna build a nest,” Izzy tells him. “Wait out the battle together.” John’s scent turns sharp with anger.
“And you’re okay with that? Thought you’d want to be in the thick of it. Not every day we run into a Naval ship full of soldiers you can run your blade through,” John says, tone light but edged with sarcasm. Izzy shoots him a look. He’s not annoyed, but he’s not not annoyed.
“Thought you’d want to see your mate at it, thought that was your thing,” John goes on. “Whole ship can hear the two of you after every battle. Always like it’s the first time, we can hear you yowling-”
“Silver,” he warns, teeth gritted. Silver’s eyes have a dangerous glint as he steps back, head tilted and teeth bared. Izzy takes a breath, forcing himself to be calm. He will not rise to the bait, dammit. He’s supposed to be taking care of John, and surely Flint will be disappointed if he comes back to find that Izzy has stabbed him. “You’ll see, soon enough. Mating after a battle is… unmatched.”
