Mike wrapped an arm around Will’s shoulder, pulling him closer. “I know it’s not much, but I thought you’d like something quiet.”
Mike had set up a picnic inside the newly rebuilt Castle Byers. The old one had been destroyed a while back, and they also needed to make it bigger anyways to adjust to both of their growth spurts. Mike and Jonathan spent the summer after Vecna working on it to surprise Will. After everything that had happened, he couldn’t help but think it was all his fault.
Will kissed Mike’s cheek. “This is perfect. I’m serious, I don’t care if we’re cleaning toilets as long as I’m with you.”
“Good to know,” Mike chuckled.
Will smiled as he cut into the brie. He loved how romantic his boyfriend was. Well, he was awkward and clueless. But, he always tried to do the cutest things for Will. Like for Valentine’s Day this year, he had Max break into Will’s locker to hide a teddy bear inside. They ended up breaking the dial and the janitor had to remove the door for Will to get to his things. But, it definitely made Will smile.
For New Year’s, Mike pulled Will into the bathroom so they could have their kiss in private. The moment was ruined by Mike vomiting all of the tequila he drank. But, Will laughed and held his hair back for him.
“I’m shocked you know what brie is,” Will nudged him, taking a bite of the cracker he had spread the cheese onto.
“That’s what that’s called?” Mike looked shocked. “Babe, I’m gonna be really honest when I say Karen did most of this picnic. I just told her what you liked and she got everything and helped me bring it out here.”
Will playfully rolled his eyes. “It’s the thought that counts, babe.”
“I’m glad you like it,” Mike beamed. He didn’t think his boyfriend could get any prettier.
Will nodded. “I love everything you do for me. I never thought you’d feel the same way about me, and I’m in awe every day how much effort you put into this.”
Mike scooted closer to Will, and pulled him into his lap. “You have no idea how crazy I am about you. I love you.”
Will kissed him, softly. “I love you, too, Michael.”

A few days later, Will was walking back from weight class with Lucas when Mike ran towards them. It looked like he had been running for a while. He was sweating and panting, and even held up a finger to stop them while he caught his breath.
“Mike, what’s up?” Will placed a hand on his shoulder.
“I’m just very whipped for you,” he managed to say. “Anyways, my parents are taking Holly to Disney World this weekend, and I was wondering if you wanted to stay over?”
Will laughed. “Mike, we spend the night together every night.”
He nodded. “Yes, but I can make you dinner and we can make a blanket fort. And, we can be as loud as we want when we-,”
Lucas quickly cut him off. “I’ve heard enough.”
“Sounds good,” Will kissed his cheek. “But, you couldn’t wait until lunch to tell me?”
He rapidly shook his head. “Karen just told me this morning, and I don’t see you until now when you’re coming back from weight class and I’m on my way to swimming.”
Lucas giggled. “Is today the day you’re finally gonna take your shirt off?”
Mike gasped offendedly, and held his arms over his chest. “I will not! Only Will gets to see me without a shirt on, thank you very much.”
The boys shook their heads at each other.
“You do realize you have nothing to cover up, right?” Lucas pointed out.
Another gasp escaped Mike’s mouth. “I’ll have you know I grew my first chest hair!”
“Proud of you,” Lucas said, to get Mike to stop talking.
Will wrapped his arms around Mike’s neck and planted a kiss on his lips. “I have to get to geometry. I love you.”
Mike kissed him again. “I love you too, baby.”

That weekend, Mike promised Will the biggest blanket fort. He certainly delivered. The entire basement was covered in blankets from the stairs to the bathroom. He had attempted to make breakfast for dinner, but they ended up ordering pizza because he burnt all of the pancake batter. But, Will didn’t care one bit. They were cuddled up on the couch (under the fort) watching Back to the Future.
“I’m having a great time,” Will breathed into Mike’s chest.
Mike absentmindedly started moving his hand under Will’s shirt to rub his back. “Me too.”
“I’m proud of you for trying to cook,” Will teased him.
“I’m glad you can boil noodles,” he told Will. “Otherwise, we’re screwed when we move out.”
Will laughed. “I’ll get you cooking lessons. I am not making your food by myself.”
Mike gasped. “How rude!”
“You like the most complicated shit, Mike,” Will reminded him. “Chicken and dumplings take like an hour, and nobody knows how to make baked Alaska.”
“When you become a famous painter, I’ll hire a chef,” Mike kissed Will’s head.
“Sounds good,” Will hummed.
There was a long pause. Mike was still rubbing Will’s back, taking deep breaths.
“Does it ever disappoint you that I don’t take you on the most lavish dates?” Mike finally asked.
Will sat up, abruptly. “Mike, I literally told you I didn’t care what we were doing.”
Mike sat up, too. “Yeah, but when you were little did you dream of your future boyfriend taking you anywhere special that I haven’t?”
“Mike, you were the only person I ever wanted to date,” Will told him. “And, I was perfectly happy sitting in the basement playing D&D until we got old and wrinkly.”
Mike looked more than content. “Really?”
Will nodded. “Sure, it would be fun to go out in public every once and a while. But, I love being with you regardless of where we are.”
“I still feel like I should take you somewhere nice,” Mike raked a hand through Will’s soft hair.
Will smiled. “If you want. But, you spoil me enough. I mean, let me do something for you every once in a while.”
Mike shook his head. “You know I can’t let you do that.”
“You don’t always have to be the ‘man,’” Will sighed.
“No,” Mike shook his head, again. “It’s not that. Trust me, I like that you’re a boy. I just always need to protect you, and spoil you and shower you with affection. I can’t help it. You have to let me have that.”
Will crawled back on top of Mike, kissing him deeply. “I love you. I can’t thank you enough for everything you do for me.”
Just then, a door slammed and the top blanket was ripped from the fort. Max was standing over them, angrily.
“What the fuck?” Mike exclaimed.
Max didn’t answer. She pulled Mike off the couch, making sure Will only toppled to the other side of the couch, and yanked his shirt off. Before he knew it, his single chest hair was ripped from his chest.
“OW!” He yelped. “What was that for?”
“For taking all of my blankets without asking!” She informed him. “I don’t know what you’re going to get up to in here, and I don’t want my blankets to witness it!”
Mike was still holding his chest, when Will spoke up.
“Sorry, for taking your blankets,” he said. “But, you need to stop hurting him when you’re angry.”
Max took a deep breath. “Why should I do that?”
“He made sure you didn’t end up in the foster system,” Will said, plainly.
He got her there.
“Please, just ask next time,” Max said.
“Aren’t you supposed to be at Lucas’s?” Mike asked her, pulling his shirt back on.
She nodded. “Yeah, but he told me about your chest hair. I had to see that.”
Mike groaned. “Well, it’s gone now,” he crossed his arms. “I was growing that out for Will.”
Max made a gagging motion as she left the room.
Will rolled his eyes. “Mike, you’re absolutely perfect to me. And besides, I was gonna shave it off in your sleep anyways. I don’t really love body hair.”
Mike gasped. “BABE! The betrayal!”
Will kissed his cheek, and got comfy on the couch again. “Cuddle me!”
Mike could never refuse Will. He got up and crawled into Will’s lap. “You’re the big spoon this time.”
Will laughed. “Fine.”
“And, I am taking you on a fun date,” Mike told him.
“I don’t really have a choice, do I?” Will started playing with Mike’s hair.
He shook his head. “Nope. I’m spoiling you.”

The next day, Mike snuck Will into the duck pond at the park.
“Mike, there’s literally a no trespassing sign,” Will pointed out.
“Relax,” Mike said, opening the loaf of bread he brought with him. “No one actually checks.”
Will rolled his eyes, taking some bread from the bag. Immediately, some ducks came up to them. It made Mike so happy to see Will smiling and enjoying their date.
“What are you staring at?” Will looked at Mike.
“You,” Mike said, bluntly. “You’re just gorgeous and I love spoiling you.”
Will smiled. “I love you. You’re right, this is a fun date. Maybe, I do like it when you take me out.”
Just then, they heard a loud, “Freeze. Keep your hands where I can see them.”
They turned to see Officer Callahan getting out of his squad car. He made his way over to the boys, who both dropped their bread.
“You’ll never catch me,” Mike said, trying to run but Officer Callahan grabbed him.
“You’re really gonna ditch me?” Will screeched. “You’re gonna leave your boyfriend when you planned the date?”
Mike shrugged. “Sorry, babe. But, your dad’s the chief. I’m his mortal enemy. You might not have a boyfriend anymore if he knows I was involved in this!”
“What are you doing?” Officer Callahan asked.
“I wanted to take Will on a cool date,” Mike confessed.
“You do realize this is trespassing, right?” He said.
Will nodded. “I realized it. This idiot did not.”
Mike gasped. “I realized it, I just wanted to impress you!”
Officer Callahan rolled his eyes. “Come with me.”
“Where are we going?” Mike asked.
“The station,” the officer told them. “The chief can decide what he wants to do with you.”
When they arrived at the station, Hopper was not happy to see them.
“What did you do this time, Wheeler?” Hopper crossed his arms.
“Why do you always assume I did something?” He wondered.
Hopper shook his head, disapprovingly. “Well, you bring trouble wherever you go.”
“I caught these two feeding the ducks at the park,” Officer Callahan said. “I told them you would deal with them.”
Hopper nodded. “Thank you, Phil. I can take it from here.”
Officer Callahan left without another word. Mike was honestly quite nervous about what Hopper was gonna do to him.
“Are you gonna arrest us?” Mike asked.
Hopper scoffed. “No. It’s shockingly your first offense. It would technically only be a $500 fine. But, I’m not charging my son with a crime. So, by association I won’t charge you either.”
“Gee, thanks,” Mike said, sarcastically. “It’s good to know how much you like me.”
“You make Will happy,” Hopper reminded him. “So, I can tolerate you.”
“What are you gonna do?” Will asked.
Before either one of them knew it, they were literally cleaning toilets at the police station.
“I’m sorry,” Mike breathed. “I didn’t mean to get you in trouble. I just wanted to impress you.”
Will blushed. “Michael, you have no need to impress me. I’m not going anywhere. And, I already told you I didn’t care if we were cleaning toilets as long as I’m with you.”
“I’m sorry we’re literally cleaning toilets, baby,” Mike frowned. “I really wanted today to be fun.”
Will leaned in to kiss Mike’s cheek. “I’m with you. I’m having an amazing time.”
“You aren’t just saying that, are you?” Mike asked, still in disbelief.
Will shook his head. “I’m having a blast. I promise.”
