I think about finding you on the swings in the first grade. I think about the first time Jonathan showed us the DnD board game, and how excited you were to see all the magic stuff. How I kept giving you different characters to draw just to watch the way your eyes lit up. Was I in love with you then?
I remember stealing a tape of The Thing from Nancy and watching it when we were ten. I remember being so scared, but you were fascinated. I stuck it out just to watch you gasp when MacReady blows up the station. I remember grabbing your hand when it happened, and you held on. Was I in love with you then?
I remember the last words you said to me before you went missing. It was a seven. I remember when you came back, when I finally saw you again, and I thought my heart was going to stop. I swear to God, Will, it was like I could breathe again for the first time in days.
Mike and Will get through Vecna, get through a million almost-confessions and even more death scares. Then, three months later, Will finds a box of unsent letters from freshman year under Mike's bed.

At first, the rain was gentle—just a soft tapping on the tiny basement windows. Will stared at the ceiling, tracing the cracks in the paint, counting the seconds between flashes of light and the low grumble that followed.
One. Two. Three. Four. Five. Six—
Thunder cracked, sharp and close, like the sky had split open right above the house. The sound slammed into the basement, bounced off concrete and old furniture, and something in Will’s chest clenched.
Seven.

“Will…” Mike was using a warning tone. “I’m serious. I'm going to lose it”.
Will understood what he was talking about, but it didn't make him back off.
“What the hell would you lose control Mike?” Will asked furious too. “You will have everything”.Mike came at him, pushing him against the basement wall, his hands positioned on the wall, surrounding Will's face, trapping him.
“Don’t you get Will?” his voice was a whisper again. “Without you I had nothing”.

Summary
This is set immediately after the final scene of S5 Vol. 1.
The gravel beneath his knees is hard and digging into his skin through his jeans. He barely registers kneeling down on the hard floor, because suddenly, there is somebody running towards him – Mike.
Will looks up at him right as Mike kneels beside him, his face split open by a huge grin, his eyes glinting in the warm light from the fires nearby. For a moment, neither of them says anything. Then, there is a warm arm around his shoulders and Mike is squeezing his fingers with the other hand. “You saved me, Will”, Mike gasps into his hair.
