Chapter Text
“Gem. Gemini. Gemini, wake up!”
Gem was forced out of her sleep by Pisces' panicked voice forcing her awake. She looked around the small room where her and her sisters slept. It was dark but Gem could see Pisces glowing eyes and she appeared worried. Gem yawned and began to rub her tired eyes awake.
“Pisces…. What is happening? Why did you wake me up? It's still night time.”
To Gems credit it was still dark out. The small window in the room proved that by showing the night sky with twinkling stars and the moon in its new moon stage that night. The only oddity was the distinct lack of heat in the room but that was not really something to worry about in the state Pisces was in.
Speaking of her older sister she pointed to a small lump of clothes at Gems feet. They were Gems clothes. Gem was still confused so she turned to look at her older sister who was moving towards Aries and turned to look at Gem.
“No time to explain, just put on the clothes and stay quiet as I wake up Aries. Can you do that BeeBee?”
Gem was still confused but did as Pisces asked and put on the clothes as her older sister woke up Aries. Aries was also confused but did as Pisces asked as well. They stared at each other until Pisces ushered them out of the room. The house was silent and Gem was put off by the silence.
"Mom and Dad are in the middle of the village with everyone else. We need to get out of here while we can.
"But Pisces if we get caught again we'll be hurt more. Mom and Dad said so!”
“Gem if we don't leave, the others are going to kill all three of us!” Pisces covered her mouth at the shock of saying that
Aries and Gem froze at that. They were going to die? Gem was beginning to tear up from that and felt arms wrap around her with a warm presence next to her and looked up to see Pisces and Aries next to her. Aries was beginning to cry as well and Pisces wiped the tears off of Aries face.
"They're going to kill us?" Gem was on the verge of tears.
“Yeah, to put it simply, they are going to kill us. No one loves us here and they never will and we have to go!.” Pisces was extremely panicked by now but she still tried to stay calm for Gem.
Before Gem could react Pisces grabbed her arm and Aries arm as well and dragged them into the village streets. The dirt path was uneven but Pisces continued to drag them down the path. Gem and Aries followed her towards the edge of the village until they reached a muddy spot from the forest still full of shock from what Pisces had said.
They began to walk down the path when Aries slipped on the mud. She was starting to get up when Gem heard something; it was the sound of a crossbow loading. Click!
In a matter of seconds Pisces was over Aries and grunted in pain as the thud of an arrow hitting something hard, hitting flesh . Gem covered her mouth in the attempt to not scream at the sight of the arrow lodging into her sister's back.
Pisces just seemed to stand up and help Aries up before turning to look at who shot the arrow. Gem turned with her to see someone holding a bow, someone familiar.
“M-Mom. Why?”
Gems moms face twisted with disgust at Gems words. She turned over to look at Gem and Gem saw rage in her eyes and Gem shakingly stepped back from her gaze.
“You don't deserve to call me that sun demon. I am not your “Mom”, understand? You are a monster, all of you are.”
Her words were filled with disgust and anger. She loaded a second arrow into the crossbow but Gem froze like a deer in headlights. Tears streamed from her eyes and it burned.
“But it's me Gem. Your daughter-”
“No! None of you are my children! All of you are monsters! And now-” She raised the crossbow and aimed it toward Gem. “-I am ending this! You just stand there and-” Before she could shoot or even finish talking Gem saw a clear object slice through her Moms arm. Immediately after it fell off slack and Mom began to scream in pain.
Pisces grabbed Gem and Gem noticed Pisces shift her arm to a hand from what looked like a blade.
Oh… Pisces attacked their mom
While their mom was screaming profanities Gem and Aries were dragged by Pisces away from the village and Pisces turned saying that they will never come back to monsters like them. Gem could see the other villagers bounding towards them with their dad leading the charge.
Gem was in a full state of panic by now and began flailing with Pisces attempting to hold her still when she felt something stab into her. Then it all went black.
— — 2 Years Later — —
‘Earth to Gem. Come in Gem. Gem?”
Gems' eyes fluttered open as she looked at Aries above her. She pushed herself off the ground with the help of Aries pulling her up.
"You won this time sis but I will beat you soon with Pisces watching.”
“You mean when she's back from work?”
Gem nodded. After they ran from the village they settled down near a small town of spirts and Pisces took a job there as a part time fisherman. Gem and Aries stayed at the small encampment a few miles from the village seeing what happened last time.
Gem appreciated what her sister did but she still felt as if she was being neglected by her. Then there was Aries. She seemed more inclined to listen to Pisces and just stay still but Gem didn't want to stay in the same spot. Sure Pisces said that they would find somewhere better but she said that months ago and they haven't made any preparations to leave.
“Gemini? You okay?”
Gem turned to see Aries looking at her. She seemed worried with her sheep-like eyes staring into Gems moose eyes. It just felt wrong to Gem she didn't like looking into people's eyes more so her sisters eyes. So she looked away from Aries.
“I'm leaving.”
Her sister's face changed from one of worry to one of confusion. Her ears stilled to hear Gem better.
“You what? Sorry I thought you said that you're leaving-”
“I did say that. I am sorry but I'm leaving. Far from here.”
“But Pisces said that-”
“I DON'T CARE ABOUT WHAT PISCES SAID! SHE HASN'T LIVED UP TO ANY OF HER PROMISES SO WHY SHOULD I CARE ABOUT HER! YOU KNOW WHAT I'M DONE WITH BOTH OF YOU!”
Gem felt as if she let go of a weight on her shoulders. But it felt wrong yelling at Aries she stopped. Her hair was beginning to burn as well from her anger.
Aries herself was beginning to cry and Gem could see her skin burn from the water. Gem wanted to apologize but she couldn't move forward, only back.
“I'm sorry. I will leave now… don't follow me.”
Gem turned around and moved away from Aries as her sister attempted to follow her but her legs failed her and she collapsed. Then Gem ran, she heard her sister crying and calling out for her but she just ran faster until she couldn't run anymore and she couldn't hear Aries anymore. Tears streamed down her face which burned on contact.
She was surrounded by trees and boulders. She crouched and cried to herself for what she had said. It was silent for a while with only the sound of her sobs until a different noise came to Gems ear.
voooooo vvvvv
Gem turned in shock from the sound. It sounded like some sort of humming and it was repeating and getting louder. Gem covered her ears when it got too loud for her to stand. Then she felt the ground turn from dirt to something like sand or slosh and worst of all she was sinking into it.
“Nonononono, stop! STOP! Someone help! Pisces! Aries! Anybody help!
Gem tried to drag herself out of the slosh but she couldn't grab a hold of anything. She kept screaming for her sisters until darkness and sound swallowed her whole. Everything went cold, nothing but that loud hum with her.
The ground then formed back to normal as if nothing ever happened. Not a trace of GeminiTay.

Pisces was only arriving at the campsite when she saw Aries on the floor. She dropped the stuff she was carrying and ran at her sister. Where was Gem? Why wasn't she with Aries? Pisces picked up her sister and saw her face was burned from tears.
“What happened? Where's Gem?” Her voice was laced with worry. Aries quivered but eventually spoke.
“We were sparing and then she said she wanted to leave. I told her that you told us that we shouldn't go out into the forest but she screamed at me and ran. She said she didn't want us around her anymore.” Tears were spilling out of her eyes when she was done.
Pisces didn't say anything. Sure she was angry at Gem for running away but she was also worried for her younger sister. Pisces just wiped the tears off her sister's face and then she hugged her close. She had to stay strong for her sisters no matter what.
She looked up at the moon that was now high in the sky. Its soft glow covered the two sisters. Pisces looked at the burn marks that entered the forest in a trail.
“Don't worry Aries. She will come back. Not even the ends of the earth can hold us from each other.”
Aries fell asleep shortly after and Pisces kept her close. She would search in the morning for Gem but now was a time for sleep. One thing was in her mind.
Where did you go Gemini?
