Work Text:

“And right before it was announced, I was trying to eat my sandwich and then your brother comes over and knocks it out my hand! And then Niki-han caught it and ate it! He ate my sandwich!”

Kohaku frustratedly typed out the message, then hit send. She had been explaining to Amagi Hiiro - her girlfriend - all about the road trip she went on with Crazy:B, but of course she had to mention her misery regarding her sandwich. Even thinking about it made her sad!

She sighed and put her phone down, waiting for Hiiro to reply, though she had a habit of forgetting to reply. Not expecting a reply, Kohaku laid back on her bed and shut her eyes. She had essentially been stuck in her dorm since she returned back.

However, the ping from her phone caused her to open her eyes and sit up quickly. Kohaku reached for her phone, hoping Hiiro had replied to her. To her amusement, she did.

“Oh!! Kohaku-kun!! That’s not good! Did you ever get another sandwich?”

Kohaku smiled at the message. Hiiro always had a way with her words that Kohaku could never understand why it made her so happy.

“No! That’s the worst part!” Kohaku typed back, following the message with a crying sticker.

“I have an idea, Kohaku-kun! Just wait!”

Oh boy.

For most people, Hiiro’s ideas were never good news. In fact - according to Aira - her ideas were terrible. However, Kohaku had come to learn that her ideas were not always terrible, just what most people wouldn’t expect.

“Hiiro-han? What’s your idea?”

Due to Hiiro’s typical tunnel vision, when she has an idea, she’s unlikely to let go of it.

“We’ll go shopping! Let’s go buy you sandwich ingredients and make you a new sandwich!”

Kohaku smiled again, ‘That’s the last thing I expected’ she thought to herself.

“Sounds cool. Meet me at my dorm?”

“Yes! Kohaku-kun! I’ll be there straight away!” Hiiro sent her final message, then a sticker of a happy face.

Kohaku was looking forward to seeing her girlfriend, it’d be the first time seeing her since before she went on her trip. It’d be nice to spend time with just Hiiro.

After about 10 minutes had passed, a knock was heard from outside her dorm. Kohaku smiled, recognising the knock.

She hurried over and opened the door, to see Hiiro with a giant smile on her face. She picked her girlfriend up and hugged her tightly - to which Kohaku did not object.

“Kohaku-kun!! I missed you so much!!” She kissed her girlfriend on the top of her head and smiled again.

“Hiiro-han.. Stop..” Kohaku already felt herself blushing. She gazed at her girlfriend for a few seconds, noticing how much she had changed over the time Crazy:B was gone. Her hair had grown longer, now reaching just above her shoulders, her eyelashes looked longer and was she wearing makeup?

Hiiro put Kohaku down and smiled, “Are you ready to
go, Kohaku-kun?”

Kohaku nodded, intertwining her fingers with Hiiro’s.

Oh, how she had missed the warmth from her girlfriend’s hand.

The two began to make their way out of Starmony dorm, chatting about what they’d both been up to. To Kohaku’s surprise, she learnt that Hiiro had in fact been practising with makeup more, Aira had been teaching her.

“The makeup makes ya look even prettier, Hiiro-han..” Kohaku mumbled, blushing from her words.

“Kohaku-kun! You’re too sweet!!” Hiiro giggled, kissing the top of Kohaku’s head.

“Perhaps we stop by Café Cinnamon? We can go say hello to Shiina-san!”

They’d left Starmony dorm and were about to pass Café Cinnamon as it was not too far from the shopping centre they’d planned to shop at.

“No way! I’ve had enough of Crazy:B!” Kohaku huffed, causing Hiiro to chuckle in reply.

“What’s so funny?!”

“Nothing! It’s just you!” Hiiro teased, “I could never get tired of my brother.”

“Well.. Rinne-han is fine. Just got a lot of energy.” Kohaku sighed, shaking her head.

“The best big brother in the world! Right, Kohaku-kun. What ingredients do you want in your sandwich? It could be anything!”

“Anythin’?” Kohaku’s face lit up. Of course she couldn’t have anything but she could have anything that seemed appropriate to have in a sandwich.

“Mhm! Anything!”

“I like.. I want..” Kohaku pondered for a moment. Anything she wanted? There were so many options, she just didn’t know what to choose, “I want.. I’d like some meat. And cucumbers! And would it be weird to have cheese?”

“Sounds good but.. Cucumbers..?” Hiiro mumbled nervously.

‘Ah right. She can’t handle cucumbers..’ Kohaku thought to herself. For some reason that Kohaku couldn’t comprehend, Hiiro had a hatred towards cucumbers where if she came into contact with one she’d gag a bit and flap her hands.

“We don’t need cucumbers! I mean, I like them, but we don’t need them!” Kohaku reassured her girlfriend, squeezing her hand.

“No! No! It’s okay! You can just handle it!” The girl smiled, squeezing Kohaku’s in return.

“If ya say so.”

After a few minutes or so, they arrived at the shopping centre. Hiiro noticed the grocery store and bolted over, dragging Kohaku with her, despite her girlfriend’s protests.

“Hiiro-han!! Ya can’t do that! Ya gotta warn me!!!” Kohaku wailed, clinging to Hiiro’s arms - similar to a koala clinging to a tree.

“Sorry, sorry!” Hiiro kissed the top of Kohaku’s head, picking up a basket with her free hand, “How about you go off and go pick what you want? I’ll follow behind you!”

“Ah.. OK..” She let go of Hiiro’s arm, sheepishly walking to the dairy aisle. Hiiro followed behind her, commenting on what she saw.

Kohaku looked at the different cheese options, frantically pacing around.

“Hiiro-han! Hiiro-han they don’t have what I wanted..!” She wailed. Kohaku felt pathetic. Why was she about to cry over the store not having the damn cheese she wanted?!

“Ah!! It’s okay Kohaku-kun!! Can you not settle for another?” Hiiro attempted to reassure her, alas to no avail.

“But it’s not!! I wanted brie. But they have none! They have none!!” She dismally made her way to Hiiro, hiding her face in her girlfriend’s neck.

It was just as HiMERU had mentioned in the past - how Kohaku had a tendency to have a “childish temper tantrum” over the smallest things.

“It’s okay, Kohaku-kun, really!! We can get another kind, surely? Or do you want brie that badly?” Hiiro pat Kohaku’s head, still trying to console her.

“It’s fine. I don’t need it.” Kohaku sniffed and wiped her eyes, attempting to hide any proof that she was crying - however, her face was already bright red.

“Were you crying?” Hiiro pressed a finger to her neck, finding the residue of tears.

“No! It’s- Whatever! I’ll just get another. Move on with our day.” She turned back to the cheeses, grabbing a bag of cheddar and dumping it in the basket Hiiro was holding.

“I’m sorry, Kohaku-kun. Now, meat? Or..” Hiiro’s voice trailed off.

“We’re closer to the vegetables. I’ll go get a cucumber. Ya can go to where the meat is. I’ll meet ya there.” Kohaku nodded, kissing Hiiro on the cheek and making her way to where the vegetables were.

She sighed exasperatedly. Why wouldn’t they have what she wanted and why did she get so upset over it!

“Stupid.. Stupid..” Kohaku mumbled under her breath, then stopping after hearing a familiar voice.

“Kohaku-chan~?! Is that you?” The voice called out.

Oh God.

“Rinne-han.. What are ya doin’ here..?!” Kohaku turned to face Rinne.

“I’m buyin’ food for Niki! The real question is, why are you here? You don’t seem like the type to buy yer own food!” Rinne teased, resting his arm on her shoulder.

“I’m here with Hiiro-han. We’re making lunch together.” Kohaku shook Rinne’s arm off and turned back to the cucumbers.

“You’re here with my lil’ sis? So like, on a date~?” Kohaku’s unitmate laughed teasingly.

“No..! Not a date..!” A light layer of blush formed on Kohaku’s cheeks. She picked up a cucumber and turned away from Rinne.

“Definitely a date! You’re blushin’ Kohaku-chan! Kyahaha. I’ll leave ya to get on with your date.” Rinne continued laughing, walking away from Kohaku.

‘Curse him!’ Kohaku thought to herself, then sighed, and began to make her way back to where she agreed to meet with Hiiro.

On arrival, Kohaku dumped the cucumber in the basket.

“Hiiro-han! Ya will never guess who I saw..!” Kohaku sighed, intertwining her fingers with Hiiro’s.

“Who was it?”

“Yer damn brother! And he kept sayin’ were on a date!” Kohaku squeezed Hiiro’s hand from frustration.

“Is that why you’re blushing, Kohaku-kun?” Hiiro giggled.

“I’m not blushin’!” Kohaku shook her head, letting go of Hiiro’s hand and making her way towards the selection of meat.

After a minute, or two, she grabbed a small packet of prosciutto and dumped it into Hiiro’s basket.

“Great! Now we have everything we need for your sandwich! Do we need to get bread as well? Would you like that?” Hiiro smiled, offering her hand for Kohaku to hold.

“Nah. I’m sure they’ll have bread at the dorms.. Maybe let's buy some. Just in case.” Kohaku held Hiiro’s hand, which then prompted Hiiro to begin dragging her to where the bread was, despite Kohaku’s protests (again).

“Hiiro-han..!! Ya really gotta stop doin’ that!” Kohaku complained, she knew her girlfriend didn’t do it on purpose, but it was always a shock when she did.

“Sorry, sorry!!” Hiiro kissed the top of Kohaku’s head, then turned to the bread selection, “Alright! Pick whatever you want!”

we Kohaku sighed, she was bored of picking and having so many options, “Hiiro-han.. Why don’t ya pick?” She suggested.

“Me..? Okay! I can pick!” Hiiro let go of her girlfriend’s hand and made her way to the bread. Inspecting each loaf carefully. After five minutes or so, she returned holding a small loaf of Italian bread.

“Let’s go pay!” Hiiro smiled, placing the loaf into the basket.

On their way to pay, a small packet of dango caught Kohaku’s eyes. She tugged at Hiiro’s sleeve a couple of times to get her attention.

“Hiiro-han. Look.” Kohaku piped up. Pointing to the pack of dango.

“Do you want some? You can get a pack or two!” She smiled. Kohaku nodded and grabbed a couple of packs for herself and one for Hiiro, then dumped it into the basket.

“Right. Do we have everything we need now? I’m going to make you the best sandwich ever!”

☆☆☆

“Hiiro-han.. Do ya actually know what you’re doin’?”

The two had arrived back at the Starmony dorm and had dumped what they bought on their counter.

“Of course! I’ve watched Shiina-san make a sandwich before, I think I know what I’m doing!” Hiiro smiled, slicing the loaf horizontally.

Kohaku watched Hiiro with great intent. She watched her hands and how swiftly they moved, noticing small scars on her fingers - probably from when she was younger.

“Done! Try it!” Hiiro finished making the sandwich, cutting it in half and plating it. She handed the plate to Kohaku and smiled, “Take a bite!”

Kohaku took the plate and placed it on the counter. She picked up the sandwich and raised it to her mouth. The smell was intoxicating.

She took a bite and paused. It tasted amazing. Where did Hiiro learn to make such good sandwiches?

“How does it taste?” Hiiro sat down next to Kohaku, placing a hand on her thigh.

“So good..!!” Kohaku swallowed her food and turned her head to face Hiiro. She chuckled and leaned in to kiss Kohaku’s lips.

Kohaku smiled and began to run her fingers through Hiiro’s hair. As always, Hiiro’s hair was soft and fluffy - looks did not deceive. However, it was like the length of her hair made it even fluffier.

Kohaku pulled away and smiled again, “Your hair is so much longer now..” she chirped, continuing to run her fingers through her girlfriend’s hair.

“Do you like it longer..?” Hiiro kissed Kohaku again, wrapping her free hand around Kohaku’s waist.

“Mhm.. I think it makes your hair fluffier” She chuckled, noticing how soft Hiiro’s skin was and how her eyes looked gorgeous in the sun.

Hiiro giggled, a light layer of blush forming on her cheeks. “I love you, Kohaku. I missed you so much..!!”

“I love ya too.. And I missed ya a lot.”

Kohaku kissed Hiiro again and by then, she had completely forgotten as to what they were doing before having a sappy moment.
