Work Text:
The stench of hair dye made Jouno's nose scrunch in the worse way possible, his poor sense of smell being fueled by ammonia. He sits promptly on the toilet seat in the bathroom, scowling at the foul stench waiting for Tecchou to finish mixing the hair dye beside him.
“Tecchou, hurry up.” He whined, eating a plate of sushi to pass the time, as he swings his feet like a little child.
Today was their day off, which was abnormal considering they were Hunting Dogs. But today was much different, out of fortune they just so happen to be off on the same day. Not only that, Jouno invited Tecchou to assist him to redye the ends of his hair, catching him by surprise at the sudden request.
“We’re off today, why are you rushing me?”
“Well you know I don’t like wasting precious time.” The blonde scowled at the question, taking another bite of sushi.
Tecchou simply shrugs at the shallow excuse that he made up on the spot, “What could you possibly be doing today in which I’m wasting your time?”
“Not hanging around you.”
The brunette sighs, eyeing Jouno as he eats, observing every detail of his outfit that he’s wearing; The blonde is wearing a loose collar grey shirt that reveals the sharp curves of his collarbone and black sweatpants that look a little too big for his size.
It almost feels wrong to see Jouno without his Hunting Dog uniform, knowing that you barely even see a member of the agency outside of work anyways. Jouno continues to eat his sushi in peace, looking lost in thought like he usually does, as the brunette sucks up every detail about him.
Tecchou had to admit; Jouno was objectively pretty without trying. The bathroom lighting highlights his soft facial features, the ends of his hair having an uneven pinkish tone to them. Even without wearing his usual attire, he looked more gorgeous than ever.
“Tecchou, you’re staring.” Continuing to swing his feet back and forth to distract himself.
“Sorry,” he muttered, pursing his lips inwards from getting caught in the middle of the act. The sound of latex gloves being put on fills the silence between them. Tecchou takes the brush given from the hair dye box set to dip it into the concoction.
The red dye is so bright it’s almost unsettling.
“Why didn’t you go to a hair salon to do this?” Leading the brush to repaint the ends of his hair that were blushed color.
“I don’t know Tecchou, maybe because your partner here can’t exactly see?” Jouno's eyebrows scrunched downwards at the ridiculous question, mouth muffled by food. “And I can’t trust their judgment too.” He added as Tecchou holds a piece of hair in place to dye it.
“So you trust my judgment more than a professional?”
Heat rushed to Jouno's face to the back of his nape at the remark, his chewing stopping for a momentary second. The sound of his heart skipping a beat was caught in his partner's ears while trying his best to make a comeback. “Don’t be so full of yourself, Tecchou.” Was all he could manage to get out.
The brunette smiled to himself, knowing well that the blonde can feel it. A piece of sushi is held up with a plate underneath as support, while Jouno feeds him some pieces that he doesn’t like. Tecchou chewed happily at the gesture, working his way around to dye all Jouno’s ends.
He hums a random tone as he works patiently, making sure not to go overboard on the red. For once, he’s enjoying the silence that the two share. It’s not often that they go hang out outside of work. However, when they do, it always involves some sort of bickering.
The bridge of Jouno's nose wrinkled, the foul scent of hair dye much closer to him. He suppresses a shutter each time Tecchou's hands accidentally make contact with his skin, now realizing how close they are now. He felt Tecchou walk over to the other side to finish up, tracing over the old color. He takes his time, using a comb to section Jouno’s hair into pieces. The tingling sensation of his hair parting sent a shiver down his spine. They’re close enough that Tecchou could see his eyelashes flutter.
Tecchou smiled once he finished all of the blonde’s sides, happy with his work. For someone has never dyed his hair, he can say that he’s a professional.
Tecchou lifts his bangs to work on them, now having to do the most tedious part of the process. His figure leans in to leave a chaste kiss on the other's forehead, making Jouno slightly flinch at the action.
“Gross.”
“We’re literally dating?” Tecchou rubs Vaseline onto his forehead to prevent any red stains.
“Hardly.”
The brunette tilts his head to the side in confusion about where this conversation is going and what so happens to be their relationship status. “So we’re friends?”
“We’re not friends Tecchou.”
“Strictly work colleagues?”
“Mmm, work colleague is a bit familiar.”
“We quite literally work together, though.” Tecchou dips the brush into the mixture while making up comebacks along the way. Jouno laughs, at this point, he is just teasing the other like he always does.
“Unfortunately.” The blonde remarks, placing the finished plate of sushi on the bathroom counter.
Tecchou is starting to wonder if he is that bad to work around like he’s some sort of infectious disease. “Then is work adversary a better term?”
“Shut up and kiss me?” Jouno's slender hands go in to cup the sides of Tecchou's face, rubbing his thumb to feel his soft cheek. Tecchou leans in into the touch, putting his gloved hand over Jouno’s.
He closely listens to how Tecchou's heart fastens when they shift closer. A heavy breath tickled the skin on his lips when the brunette doesn’t say anything.
Right when they were going to interlock lips, Tecchou puts a hand over Jouno’s mouth.
“Work adversaries don’t kiss.”
