Work Text:
The Phantom Scythe is finally down and everybody is busy celebrating. Everybody cheered so loud as they taste the air of victory. Peace can finally be kept again.
The APD finally let down their guns and hugged each other tight. Tears of joy started to blur their visions. Kym and William also engulfed one another in a tight embrace, of course with Kym crying nonstop as William soothed her.
Everything was well.
Until Lauren felt something dripping on her right side of abdomen.
It was unnoticable at first. Her whole body had been aching all day, so she thought it was no biggie for a pain to be felt on her abdomen. But it was getting sharper and sharper, until she finally touched the part where it hurts underneath her vest.
Lauren raised her hand and saw her white gloves turned dark red.
She was bleeding.
Oh no.
She tried to stay upright but her visions started to blur more as the seconds passed. She hoped no one pay attention to her. The last thing she needed was some worry on her friends' faces after all the joy that filled the air.
But she was wrong. Of course a certain man with deep blue eyes and dark hair, always kept an eye on her.
"Lauren?" From where Kieran stood, he couldn't see the wound. However, he could tell the way Lauren stands is a little bit strange.
"Lauren, are you okay?" Worry started to flood his mind. He quickly walked past the other officers and made way to the red-haired lady.
"Lau-"
But before he could reach her, Lauren collapsed on to the ground.
"LAUREN!"
Then, Kieran finally could see her in a better angle. Her white uniform and gloves had all turned crimson. She was cut pretty deep and her vest wasn't enough to protect her.
"Lauren, stay with me. Don't close your eyes!" Kieran couldn't help but tremble with fear. He thought that the moment that dreadful fight with Phantom Scythe is over, all that's left is happiness and glory.
However, he was wrong.
"Kie...ran?" Lauren gathered all the strength to stay awake. It didn't result in anything as her visions were still blurry.
"Yes, it's me. You have to stay awake alright, detective? The fight is over. We won. We won, Lauren. We can finally celebrate. So, please...stay with me." With both of his hands occupied to held Lauren and putted pressure on her wound, Kieran couldn't wipe the tear that rolled down on freely on his cheek.
Please, not you too.
Lauren took a deep breath, "I'm...sorry."
"Hm? What are you sorry for?"
There was no reply.
"Lauren? Lauren! LAUREN!"
It was too late. Lauren had drifted off to her eternal sleep and Kieran could never know what she was sorry for.
I'm sorry for leaving first.
I'm sorry for leaving you alone.
I'm sorry for not staying here with you.
