Law didn’t pay much attention to his “firsts”.
His parents had, when he was a child. First word, first tooth, first tooth lost, first steps…the list went on. They had had a book they wrote in for all these things, one for him and one for his sister, and commemorated each event with a gift or a treat. The book must have burned with Flevance, but Law never gave it much thought. He had lost far more important things that day.
There were “firsts” that he remembered, of course. He remembered the first person he killed, the first hospital that refused him, the first time he ate rotten food to survive, the first time he realised he was living on borrowed time.
Not all the “firsts” he remembered were dark and gloomy. His first kiss had been a girl his age at a slumber party Law hadn’t wanted to attend, but his parents talked him into going. It had been a dare, and it had been awkward. He had kissed plenty of people since, the fact that he remembered the first didn’t mean it was special.
The first time he kissed Luffy, however, was special.
Or, more accurately, Luffy kissed him. They were in Wano, a few days after the battle, and Law had gone looking for Luffy to check on his injuries. Tony Tony Chopper was an excellent doctor, but he couldn’t scan people the way Law could. His crew had told Law about resuscitating Luffy in the middle of the battle, and Law wanted to make sure there were no internal injuries.
When Law told him as much, Luffy just grinned and held his arms up, letting Law work. With Luffy in his Room with his guard down, Law had a brief, intrusive thought of how easy it would be to just take his heart out and crush it. Law shook his head. The thought sounded like Doflamingo, and Law was done with that part of his life.
He didn’t find anything, or at least nothing that Tony hadn’t already addressed. Law sighed in relief.
“You’re clear, Straw Hat,” he said. “I imagine Tony has already told you to take it easy for a while.”
“He tried,” Luffy grinned, then got a mischievous look on his face. “Hey, Torao?”
“Yeah?” Law asked, and Luffy pulled him down to kiss him.
Law froze for a full second. Ironic, he supposed, that he had been the one caught with his guard down. He regained his composure and kissed back, feeling Luffy grinning against his lips. He hadn’t expected this from Straw Hat of all people, but he didn’t exactly mind. It felt good, comfortable and exciting at the same time. Luffy clearly wasn't an experienced kisser, but he had a way of putting his whole being into whatever he did, and kissing was no exception. Law ended up getting lost in the feeling of Luffy’s lips against his own.
Luffy had a wide smile on his face as he pulled back, though his arms were still wrapped around Law, who was doing his best to pretend he wasn’t a bit dazed.
“Torao,” Luffy said. “Does this mean you’re mine, now?”
Law snorted. Such an innocent question from such a forceful kisser. He supposed he shouldn’t have been surprised.
“For tonight, I could be,” Law said.
Luffy frowned. “I wasn’t asking just for tonight.”
“I know. But that’s what I’m offering,” Law said. “We’re still rival captains, Luffy. Odds are we’ll be enemies next time we meet. So I can promise tonight, and nothing more.”
Luffy was quiet for a moment as he considered it, then he grinned. “Alright. That just means I’ll have to keep asking every time.”
Law huffed a laugh. How do you argue with logic like that? “So, my room or yours?”
“We should go to the roof,” Luffy said, and Law raised his eyebrows. Why not, he supposed. Wouldn’t be comfortable, but at least no one would walk in on them.
Law cast a large Room, and moved both of them up to the highest roof. Luffy laughed as they landed.
“That always feels like I left my stomach behind,” he said, then sat down, looking down over Wano. “It looks so pretty from up here.”
“It does,” Law agreed, then sat down as well. It was late, and dark, but there were lanterns lighting up the streets, and the sounds of people still celebrating Kaido’s defeat, days later. Wano would be better off now. It would take time, but the country would recover. It was strange to think he had had a part in it.
“Hey, your Room can reach the kitchen, right? Grab us some food,” Luffy said, and Law rolled his eyes. Always thinking with his stomach.
“You know you can’t give me orders,” Law said, and Luffy pouted.
“But I’m hungry.”
“When are you not?” Law sighed, then cast a Room. It took a while for it to reach the kitchen. They built things annoyingly tall here in Wano, although Law couldn’t complain about the view. Eventually he found what he was looking for. He didn’t steal much, just an onigiri for himself and four full bowls for Luffy.
“You’re the best, Torao,” Luffy said, then moved to sit in Law’s lap as he ate. Messily, probably getting food stains all over both of them.
Despite having way more food, Luffy still finished ahead of Law, and was hungrily eyeing the remaining onigiri in Law’s hand.
“You’re insatiable,” Law told him, and proceeded to stuff the rest of the onigiri into his own mouth all at once, ignoring Luffy’s protests.
“You’re mean,” Luffy said, and Law smirked at him.
“I’ve been told I am the best.”
Luffy laughed at that. “You can be both.”
He turned around in Law’s lap, and kissed him again. This time Law was prepared for it, and eagerly responded, letting Luffy push him down on the roof. Luffy was taking his time exploring Law’s mouth, and Law was just enjoying the feeling.
They had been kissing for a while when Law suddenly realised it wasn’t going anywhere. This wasn’t foreplay, it was just making out.
“Luffy,” Law said, pulling back a little. “Are you planning to have sex with me?”
It felt like such a stupid question to ask. Luffy was practically on top of him, kissing him, so that should have been where it was going. With anyone else, it would have been.
“Yes,” Luffy said. “But not tonight. I’m testing out this thing right now.”
Law raised his eyebrows. “What thing? Kissing?”
“Yup. I think I like it,” Luffy said, capturing his mouth with his own, fully putting to the test, as he put it. Law was honestly amused by the whole thing.
“You think? ” Law chuckled when he got room to breathe again. “And we only have tonight, remember?”
“Says you,” Luffy said. “This is a new adventure, and I’m not going to rush it.”
“An adventure, is it?” Law asked with a smirk. “You realise it’s one I’ve already gone on?”
“Yeah, but not with me,” Luffy said. “Don’t you want to?”
“I didn’t say that,” Law said, then moved his head to the side to kiss Luffy’s neck. Luffy shivered and made a loud noise above him.
“Torao!” he complained, withdrawing to put a hand over the blossoming hickey on his neck. “That was weird!”
Law leaned back on the roof and looked up at him with a grin. “Didn’t think you minded weird. Why else are you up here with me? ”
“Because I like you,” Luffy said, leaning over him again. “Does it bother you that I don't want sex yet?”
“No,” Law said. “If sex was that important, I would have taken Eustass up on his offer instead of being here with you.”
Luffy frowned. “Jaggy likes you?”
“He likes my ass. It’s not the same,” Law shrugged, watching Luffy make a face in the general direction of the city below. “Are you jealous?”
“No. You’re here, so I’m not,” Luffy said, then smiled. “Guess that means I win.”
“You usually do,” Law snorted. He reached out to run his fingers through Luffy’s hair. “I can’t make any promises, you know.”
“I know. you said,” Luffy nodded.
“But,” Law continued. “If we meet again, and we’re not enemies, I would be willing to continue this “adventure” with you.”
Luffy grinned. “We’re not going to be enemies,” he said. “We might be on opposing sides, we might fight, but we’ll still be friends. I promise.”
“Don’t make promises you can’t keep, Straw Hat,” Law sighed.
“I never do,” Luffy said.
He believed it, at least. Law shook his head with a smile. “Then kiss me again. I think you almost got it right last time.”
“You’re mean,” Luffy said, but he grinned, leaning down to press their lips together again.
Another adventure, huh? That was something to look forward to, at least.
